Detroit area really sucks, and I feel sorry for you guys. My area took some of your patients.

That said, this guy is doing "take out" service.

I think they could simplify a lot of these executive orders if they allow any business to do "take out style" service with a card reader type of thing (no cash exchanges, despite it being legal tender, until this is over. I know, I know, but sheesh. Or exact change only.)

The problem is that many employers would require people to work when they shouldn't, when they're not essential. But in this guy's case, he's the shop owner, so...let him. But he shouldn't be allowed to mandate that his employees come in for something that is not considered necessary.

Here in MI, they closed the tobacco shops too. He's a vape shop. Similar.

All :2c:

But I don't have a problem with this specific example.
My pharmacy wouldn’t take cash yesterday, hubby had to pay with card.

The 245 people dead so far in my county probably wish we listened to the scientists and health professionals sooner. I can understand both the passion and self interest of a vape shop owner but his interests aren't as important as saving lives in the near term.

Correction: since I started this post, it's now 246.

My county has zero cases of covid19. Should the local vape shops have to close down, while the smoke shops and the liquor stores stay open, and risk losing their businesses permanently? I understand the situation in your county, but it's different in different parts of the country. That's why Trump left it up to the local government to decide.

    That only works if you
    A) put a wall around your county and
    B) wait a week or more to be sure you have no ACTUAL cases (rather than just confirmed ones).

And then, you can all run around inside your bubble until you run out of supplies.

Otherwise, if you "stay open", that's how you spread CV-19. Because you won't be at zero for long.

Even thou im in another country (Spain) what pisses me off is that in our case the tobacco shops count as necessities same as supermarkets, pharmacies, etc, etc but vape shops are not in that list.

Easy to figure out why,tax money they make off cigarettes is off the charts and even more now that people is probably smoking more because of the situation we are in.

Thank god atleast most stores have websites where you can order online but the principle behind the ''reasoning'' of the goverment is just beyond moronic.

Some tobacco shops do carry some vape stuff but at the most its juuls (or similar products by another brand) and some overpriced bad quality e-liquids.

But put yourself in the position of someone who doesnt use online services,so vape stores are closed and this person then has to go back to smoking cigarettes just because the goverment is so thick that they cant see the vaping is much healthier than smoking cigs.

If people didn't travel between cities, counties and states, and if people carrying the virus showed symptoms before they were contagious, that would make sense. In the most remote areas of our state it has now cropped up after showing up a month or so ago in only heavily populated areas. I hope your county doesn't have any people visit, return home or pass through while contagious.

The reasons the President has left it up to the states and pushed to re-open businesses are his own. That's better discussed in the Outside part of this forum.

Getting back to the OP, the vape shop owner in this thread is in San Antonio, a heavily populated area where the virus is spreading - here's the current situation there https://cosagis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/d2c7584fe9fd4da1b30cb9d6cc311163 In a county that has hot spots already, this protest doesn't make much sense.https://cosagis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/d2c7584fe9fd4da1b30cb9d6cc311163

Stay at home orders have resulted in a slowdown in new cases. It's our best bet to end this faster and get back to work. If we all suffer for a couple more weeks fewer Americans die.

^^ Although I agree with that pretty much, this situation is interesting.

The guy is doing "take out". He has a mask on, and is [presumably] using safe procedures. That's probably even better than what the gas stations selling cigs are doing.

Theoretically, in this particular case, it might be safer to use that vape shop and wipe down the bottle and use hand sanitizer, than it is to go inside the gas station.

I think where the main error comes in is that simple edicts like "open vs closed" are overly simple. They do solve 90% of the problems though, simply by closing things down.

But it's more about HOW the vape shop is "open"...rather than about IF it is open.

Oh the guy's a dead man. I mean I like it but yeah.... He won't be there for that long.

Anyone who thinks "my county has zero cases" should go about their business is kind of right, and kind of wrong.

Because that county WILL get cases eventually we all are.

Staying home may prolong it a bit, which is okay, but it's not going to NOT show up. There will be no special "safe" county.

That’s not why he said he did, but I’ve stopped paying attention to stuff he says. If he says something that isn’t false it usually gets reported elsewhere. Trying to fact check his mouth is just too complicated. So much comes out of it and so little of it is true.

    How many fewer?

How long is "a few more weeks"? First it was supposed to be "15 days to flatten the curve." Now we're up to 45-60 days in most places. How long do you think this can be kept up before essential things start to break?

There is no end in sight in my state. They are doing "online teaching" in my county which is a joke because I keep running into kids with either no computers, no internet or both.

WTH????? Don't you gotta check that stuff? All seniors are not gonna have gradation, etc.

Our govenrer, Doug "Deuce" Deucey has issued a "stay at home" order pretty much indefinitely. To be fair more business than one may thing fall under the category of "essential" but I"m not getting it.

Oy. I am a healthcare worker and if/WHEN I get sick I am supposed to isolate myself. So 3 weeks before I get symptoms I am speeding the virus. Cool.

What is sauce for the goose.... Etc. I AM A HEALTHCARE worker who deals with infants, so if it's good enough for ME, why not EVERYONE?

It was NEVER supposed to be 15 days.

Except in Trump's head. That, logically, doesn't count at all, in case you haven't noticed yet. That 15 is just a testimony to the fact that he totally doesn't get it.

155,000+ people die EVERY DAY on planet earth. 6 million plus every year, (approximately 1% of pop).

This CV 19 has not killed a single person that did not already have an underlying condition that exacerbated the illness.

As Rush said, how come they get to keep their "expert" title when everything they predict is WRONG?

    Weaponized fear and panic. Period.

Besides, about 1/3 of America has high blood pressure under the old definition and 46% under the new one, and most of us smokers or ex-smokers are at risk too. Then there's age.

Then there's capacity and timing. And treating other illnesses when the hospitals are flooded.

Any low numbers coming out of this are the direct result of "panic" and practicing proper procedures.

Otherwise you'd be looking at 500,00 or even millions of dead.

How far must the world economy be collapsed, before it's too much. The aftermaths may far exceed the curse. Food banks have long lines and are running low on food. Be prepared for rises in child abuse, domestic violence, suicide and crime. I don't have any answers on the covid-19 pandemic, but I don't understand how lock downs and putting people out of work helps. Best case they flatten the curve, but they won't stop it.

Perhaps it is not 100% accurate, but its closer to the truth then not.
86% of New Yorkers Who Died With Chinese Virus Had Other Illnesses, Conditions
    Dude.
    Check this:
For instance, of those victims 80 to 89 years old, 836 had high blood pressure, 488 had diabetes, and 227 had coronary artery disease. Another 157 suffered kidney disease, 148 had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 136 had cancer, and 132 had congestive heart failure.

When (I should say IF) you get to your 80's, you'll have at least one of those things going on too.

The point is that this flu hit's them ALL AT ONCE, within a short period of time. And it's more intense than the regular flu. And that impacts everyone, from the mother giving birth, to the kids that need other types of care.

Look: 100% of people die of the complicating factor of old-age. So?
Why hasten it? Why let it all happen at once and overflow our systems.
