Vapefly Optima Pod mod the Game Changer

Vapefly Optima Pod mod 80W uses a 18650 battery for operation and is the first electronic cigarette in the world to offer its loyal customers a rebuildable Mesh system of its coils (RMC System).

Among the accessories (purchased separately) there is an interesting postless RDTA system, Rope + Coil Wire + Mesh Coil.

    Enjoy the reading.

    First Impressions:
When I heard that a new Mod-Pod system was sent to me I was not too enthusiastic, these systems have a very good performance and multiple combinations for different vape options, but they crowded the market with solutions that are undoubtedly useful, but all quite similar to each other .
Vapefly Optima Pod Mod kit is a really rich package of spare parts, there are some really innovative aspects that have favorably impressed me, we will see them together later in the review.

I received the Gunmetal version for this test.
Touching the new Optima Mod-Pod with my hand, I immediately appreciated the solidity of construction, the frame is entirely built in zinc alloy, the body is thin and slender, the Mod is held well in the hand and does not weigh too much (100gr).

The vapefly logo is engraved at the top on the front of the Optima, under the logo there is the oval and slightly protruding Fire button, the fire button is easy to find thanks to its elongated shape.

The 0.91 oled screen is arranged vertically, reading is facilitated by the enlarged fonts and the screen brightness is very good.
The adjustment keys “+” and “-” are arranged vertically above a rocker, the Usb Type-C port is placed under the “+” and “-” keys.

On the back there is the removable door to gain access to the battery compartment, on the door is engraved “Optima” with large letters. The cover can be inserted to read “Optima” from top to bottom or from bottom to top.

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 4.jpg

In the side view of Optima you can see the two slots for the extraction of the door and the decorative panels presumably in IML. At the top you can also see the airflows with a teardrop design placed laterally on the cartridge.

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 5.jpg

The slot for the 18650 cell is made of fireproof plastic material, the polarities are engraved inside it together with the cell design, the pins are gold plated, the negative one is spring loaded to facilitate the insertion / extraction of the cell.

The inside of the flap is equipped with two magnets, the magnets are naturally mirrored to those placed on the mod. The cover and the mod fit together perfectly, there is not the slightest movement and the structure appears as a single body and this is a really positive aspect for comfort.

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 6.jpg

The upper part of the cartridge compartment is shaped to allow internal visibility, on the bottom there are two contact pins and four torx screws.
On the bottom of the Optima appears the writing "Designed By Vapefly", the logo and the C E brand.

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 7.jpg

The kit includes two very similar but not identical cartridges (Optima cartridge and RMC cartridge) both contain 3.5ml of liquid, the refill is lateral and the coils are inserted from the bottom.

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 8.jpg

The Optima cartridge houses two types of pre-assembled Mesh-Coil and the top-airflow system has the task of minimizing losses.

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 9.jpg

The RMC cartridge has all the features of the previous Optima cartridge, but the difference is inside, it can in fact house an incredible and innovative RMC RBA module.

The acronym RMC means "Rebuildable Mesh-Coil" and is the first system of its kind in the world!
Vapefly declares that with a set of Mesh you can regenerate up to 10 times, with a cost reduced to 25% compared to the purchase of 10 normal Coils, so it allows you to reduce costs by about 75%, not bad really!

    RMC set:
    - 1 decomposable RMC RBA
    - 2 Mesh Coil 0.2Ω (40-60W)
    - Tool to roll up the Mesh Ø4.8 and Ø5.0mm
    - 2 Cotton laces
    - 5 O'ring
    - 4 insulating gaskets for the Pin
    - 2 Pin

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 11.jpg

    * RBA RMC seems like a complicated process but I assure you that the whole operation lasted a few minutes and I think it is really worth it, congratulations Vapefly, this is innovation!

    Rebuild the Mesh-Coil:
    - 1) Stuff the cotton lace and lean the Mesh in the direction shown in the figure.
    - 2) Use the Tool to roll the Mesh and cotton, I used the diameter Ø4.8mm
    - 3) Insert the Mesh inside the RBA RMC
    - 4) Insert the insulating gasket, keeping one leg inside the gasket and one leg outside the gasket.
    - 5) Insert the Pin inside the insulating gasket
    - 6) Cut excess Legs
    - 7) Cut excess cotton
    - 8) At this point you have obtained a vertical RMC Mesh-Coil, very similar to the pre-assembled FreeCore ™

    * Optima RDTA Meshed Cartridge is an interesting accessory sold separately that makes it possible to install both Coil Wire and Mesh Coil on Postless Deck

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 13.jpg

    RDTA Kit Contents:
    - 1 3.5ml RDTA Cartridge
    - 1 RDA Ø20mm with replaceable 510 Drip-tip
    - 2 Mesh Ka1 0.2Ω (40-60W)
    - 2 Vapefly Firebolt M Cotton Laces
    - 1 Tool to roll up the mesh
    - 1 Clapton Coil 0.35Ω NI80
    - 1 Multifunction screwdriver
    - 2 replacement Ropes
    - Numerous o'ring

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 14.jpg

How the RDTA Kit is made:
The RDTA cartridge has the same form factor as Optima and RMC cartridges, same fill hole and looks like same liquid capacity.
The lower pin is adjustable and the air inlet slots are fake.
The RDA is constructed of steel, has the replaceable 510 Drip-Tip and the outer sleeve can rotate to adjust a total of 16 0.8mm holes (8 holes per side).

    Vapefly Optima Pod Mod 15.jpg

The Deck of this RBA has two adjustable clamps with as many cross screws, the deck can accommodate either the wire coils or the Mesh coils, for the latter there is a spring loaded system to compress the cotton, inside the cartridge there they are two stainless steel ropes that have the task of transporting the liquid to the cotton.

    Vaping test and final conclusions:

    - 0.6Ω FreeCore ™ coil Mesh (20-28W)
The Optima cartridge is a small masterpiece because thanks to the internal air flow it completely prevents leaks, the combination with the 0.6Ω FreeCore ™ is what I liked the least, I would have preferred to be able to adjust the AFCs to have a more vapor hot, but in this cartridge the AFCs are fixed. The puff is of the limited DL type, the delivery and the flavor are nevertheless satisfactory, closing one of the two air slots with a finger becomes as it should be, too bad.
The smart chipset chooses a "best wattage" of 25W and limits the maximum power to 28w to prevent burning of the cotton.

    - 0.3Ω FreeCore ™ Mesh Coil (30-40W)
The optima cartridge with its fixed AFCs is perfectly calibrated for this coil, the puff is of the DL type, the chipset automatically sets 35W and prevents the cotton from burning by denying it exceeds 40W. This 0.3Ω FreeCore ™ coil is really excellent, it doesn't make you regret any pre-assembled coil of any brand.

    - RBA RMC with 0.2Ω Mesh Coil regeneration (40-60W)
The great innovation called RMC combined with the Optima cartridge system solves two great problems:
    1. Leaks and condensation
    2. You save money (75%)
It just seems to use a coil of the best Mesh-Coils available on the market, aroma and steam at the highest level!
The chipset regulates the “best wattage” at 50W and it is with this power that I use it with pleasure.

    - RDTA Optima with Clapton Coil 0.35Ω NI80 regeneration (25-35W)
The highlight of this 20mm RDTA system is definitely the adjustable AFC system that allows you to get hot steam and a lot of Hit (throat hit), I might even think about doing a 1.0Ω build to use it in MTL, I'm sure it would behave very well.
with the 0.35Ω Clapton Coil the chipset comes to our rescue by automatically selecting the best at 30W, I really like to use it at 25W with two open airflows, the hit is very strong as I like it, continuing compulsively the steam can become too hot, just open the AFC and everything is normalized.

    - RDTA Optima with 0.2Ω Mesh Ka1 regeneration (40-60W)
The resistance obtained turned out to be 0.27Ω different from the 0.2Ω declared, the chipset sets a best of 35W and limits the power to 45W, but the magic of the mesh makes it possible to vape even at much lower wattages, I like, i use this mesh at 25W with AFC almost completely closed, the steam is never too hot and is always abundant, the hit (blow in the throat) is strong and the aroma satisfies me too, this regeneration is like drugs, it is addictive.
In addition, the stainless steel ropes convey the liquid effectively, extending the life of the cotton.

For all the aspects that I described in the review, in this kit I found real innovation and for this I think it deserves a lot to be purchased, if I have convinced you I recommend the purchase of the Optima RDTA system (it will be sold separately).
