Thank you for the well thought out dissertation on juice craftsmanship.

Sucks to admit, but I also believe the Majors will get into the game soon. Then again, that was also said about another smoking material that has since been legalized in many states, so maybe they won't.

Of corse, vaping is directly affecting their market share of consumers.....damn.
They certainly will enter this market.

You said it man!

Tobacco Absolute- this is a concentrate of natural tobacco extract. There must be something more to the process that makes it, because this is generally nicotine-free. It is extremely potent, and actually gives a somewhat ashy taste. Used with an extremely delicate hand, it actually imparts a sense of burning tobacco. Odd, because there is no reason it should, being a concentrate of tobacco extract. A vendor I really like makes juice that uses tobacco absolute to wonderful effect. I can't detect it, but I know it's a primary ingredient in all their tobacco vapes. Almost every other juice that uses tobacco absolute sticks out like a sore thumb, because used indiscriminately it makes the juice taste like straight ash tray.

Tobacco absolute is an important blending ingredient that, used well, adds a note that helps your brain accept vaping as a cigarette replacement. The problem here is that almost no juice uses it well, so most vendors would do well to steer clear of using it.

The key to Tobacco Absolute seems to be extreme dilution. I'm using TA that's already diluted with 50% alcohol and further diluting that by using only 3 drops of that into 3ml PG and then using about 5 drops of that in 10ml of juice along with a little Hangsen Desert Ship and Turkish Blend Tobacco Essence flavoring (these Hangsen Tobacco Essences also contain diluted tobacco extract of some kind). All this will be just my exhale/Turkish component when perfected. Tobacco Absolute itself is also extracted from Bulgarian Oriental ("Turkish" ) tobacco.

I next plan on adding a DIY extract of Toasted Burley as the main inhale/body component. I also want to try blending in some of Hangsen's Lucky Strike Tobacco Essence (Lucky Strikes are mainly Toasted Burley with some Turkish) so I can have a bolder flavor while using less NET for a cleaner vape.

I was going to go ahead and DIY extract Burley, Virginia, and Turkish but decided Toasted Burley would be better to extract.....Virginia has too much sugar to clog the coil and Turkish tobacco really does smell like old socks....I can get a convincing suggestion of Virginia/Turkish sweetness from the Desert Ship TE while the Turkish Blend provides a fairly convincing Turkish earthiness without the stinky feet room note. Toasted Burley has a deep rich flavor with not much sugar...screams quality old time American Cigarett

So my point is: Hybrids...that is where it's going to be at for cigarette-like vapor IMO.

The answer is, I am sure, somewhere but I don't have the time to search. So, can someone please tell me how to "step down" on the nic level in the juice, can you do that yourself or do you have to buy it that way?

The best is to find a vendor that can sell you nic in whatever percentage you want (or DIY), that way you can step down incrementally as opposed to jumping down.

Nice OP - very informative and thought provoking. I've never understood why the prefilled cartridges for my ecig taste exactly how I want but none of the ejuices I've tried come close. As a result, my guess would be that with advancements in ejuice-creation-technology so too shall the hardware advance. If bigger companies get involved in the future, as was suggested in an early reply, it's likely they would sell both their own brand of eliquid as well as their own brand of hardware. I just wish I could find a flavor like what comes in my ecig prefilled cartridges so I can use the same flavor in my eGo-T. While most of the tobacco flavors I've tried aren't bad, they don't satisfy my pallet and often have an aftertaste that I can only describe as "plastic".

I can certainly agree with what you are saying now but when I first started out vapping I was more concerned with my nic fix to honest. My kit came with 18mg strength tobacco juice my tastes buds at that point were nowhere near sensitive enough to really taste much of anything let alone the flavor of tobacco. I believe a natural approach to this could also work there are many natural herbs and other plants to get flavor from. I'm currently experimenting in this direction with some small successes at this time. I think it can be done with out state of the art equipment tho it may prove more time consuming to do it that way. I think if big t gets involved we will loose something special passion for the work that goes into creating a great juice.

Vapenstein.... I agree 100% with your statement. Most people involved in the vaping community can no doubt see that vaping is on a meteoric rise as we speak. By the end if 2013, the number might double. Triple even. Point is that when big tobacco sees that their bottom line is being hurt by vaping, and/or they see too many dollar signs ($$$) to not jump in and get a cut, they will ultimately seek to eliminate competition by the one thing that's foolproof. Throwing millions and millions of dollars at it until it goes away. So I think initially they will try to grease the wheels of the FDA to destroy vaping through sanctions and regulations. If that doesn't work, they will just spend spend spend. You know what they say.... if you can't beat them, beat them with lots and lots of money.

Not sure how many people know this, but the OP has his own (fantastic) line of eliquid at Want2Vape under the Signature Blends. If you want to vape natural tobacco, you should really try them. If I am not mistaken, his post was made before he started his line.

See below.

I have nothing to do with the mentioned vendor. We ended our relationship some months ago, but they've decided to keep selling the juice that was formerly Vapenstein Blend anyway. I do not endorse this product.

My goodness.
