Do not confuse liberal with libertarian. Liberals are the biggest regulators/nannies. They want a "better" life for all... or else.

The problem is that liberally minded people believe that government is the ultimate answer to securing that "better life". The unfortunate reality that they fail to realize is that you cannot assign your good intentions to a monolithic bureaucratic governing regime and have that entity remain motivated by those good intentions. The powerful use good intentions as a means of generating power and revenue for the bureaucratic machine. The real underlying motivator here for the San Francisco Public Health Department isn’t public safety, it is that the powers that be see vaping as a threat to their power and revenue structure. They would be out of work if everyone quit smoking tomorrow and vaping threatens to do just that. They have to demonize vaping or they will be on the unemployment line like 90 million other Americans.

That this is about vaping, smoking, and/or public health is deeply disturbing on it's own. But the bureaucratic thought mechanisms behind this kind of propaganda campaign are truly terrifying.

Joseph Goebbels would be proud. The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed.

I consider San Francisco and New York to be the centers of the progressive movement here in America.
They want to be like Europe for some reason, because I guess they think that is being enlightened.

SF has been going Downhill since Diane F took Office.

I remember when she came to the Mayor's Office after Moscone and Milk were assassinated. She had Every Major endorsement that could be had. Police, Fire, Education, etc. You name it, She had it.

And I remember when she Left after her 2nd Full Term. The City couldn't get rid of her soon Enough.

Now, with her Partner in Crime - Boxer, she seems to want to wage a Crusade against e-Cigarettes.

It's only very recently that San Diego started turning blue.

I agree, I wouldn't consider San Diego all that liberal especially Oceanside(Not SD I know) where I live now. The campaign is in San Francisco though which is about as liberal as it gets. I was just sayin don't go blaming liberals for this, I'm sure most don't want to ban vaping or anything like that and any who do clearly don't understand vaping.

seems to me like its just the moneygrubbers controlling it. personally I never ran into anyone who is strongly against or even slightly against vaping. Unless you go around like a douche and start blowing the vape in peoples faces or try to vape in a crowded room just cuz 'its not smoke', most of the people are just curious because they see smoke and dont smell it. I've never had a bad experience vaping anywhere in public, and i live in sacramento, california and occaisonally visit relatives in san francisco. As long as you're vaping in a polite manner people dont really take notice or care. The pressure behind all these media lies and bull.... seems to just come down to money and I know and see tons of people who will fight for our right to vape, both non-vapers and vaper alike. If people who just know smokers who are vaping now instead of smoking will fight for it, because even they know the benefits of vaping firsthand even if they are not vapers themselves.

this hashtag hijack was epic, and just shows more of the public how much .... these guys are full of and how stupidly and greedily motivated these ...... are.

Everyone has diff political views, but getting into them could distract from what's important. As a vape enthusiasts, hopefully we can focus on what's going on and not the politics. Whatever views you have, we need to work together.

This is all about politics. There is no legitimate scientific public health concern.

It is, but many take offense when the discussion distracts from the goal of working together. Political views are personal, my point was whatever side of the fence you are on, we need to work together when situations like this happen.

This is in Cali: NOTHING surprises me, coming out of that state's government

We're talking about the state that banned the M41a1 Pulse Rifle in their AWB (hint: the rifle in Aliens. It doesn't really exist). The state that made it a crime to murder someone while carjacking them

If there's a bone-headed move that a legislature can make, the Cali leaders will make it

As far as "liberal v conservative": MOST of the politicians I've seen calling for bans/restrictions/etc on vaping have been Democrats. Not to say the Republicans are "for" us, just an observation

Political views may be developed at a personal level, but their exercise by their nature is a public endeavor. One needs to ask themselves whether their own political position fosters this type of behavior or whether it seeks to curb it. This type of nanny-State intrusion didn't come from any libertarian mind I can assure you.
