Hey guys, new to the forum and have yet to actually start vaping, still in the research phase. Does anyone have experience with vaping and continuing to smoke tobacco? My hope is to vape most of the time, but still have the odd cigarette or pipe tobacco. Does continuing to smoke tobacco ruin getting into vaping? Or have people thought similarly when first starting out and found that vaping gives them everything they need taste and experience wise?

Everyone is different here on their starts. Many quit immediately but sadly I was not one of those. I vaped and smoked for awhile and then I would quit smoking on weekends. Finally decided one Monday morning that I was done with smoking and didn't start again.

Vaping should be enjoyable for you, not just a substitute for smoking. Once you get to that point you will be on your way.

When I picked up my e-cig starter kit, I had a nearly full pack of smokes and figured I'd slowly finish them in the course of weaning myself off. But by the third day of vaping, I started to find the smell of real tobacco absolutely repulsive, and I found e-cigs to be more enjoyable in every regard, so I wound up never finishing the pack of smokes. It's still sitting here in my desk drawer untouched for about eight months.

I quit smoking cigs four days ago. I just don't want one. I still roll them for the wife though. I smoked a cigar tonight and did not enjoy it as much as I used to. Very sad cause I have several hundred dollars in cigars yet. I was hoping I could enjoy a good cigar from time to time and vape. Maybe some vape fluid with cigar flavor? Anyway I will smoke the cigars I have left and be careful if I order more, but it appears that vaping has replaced cigarettes with no looking back. I vape about 11% nicotine.

I had the same experience. I couldn't stand the smell. Had a half of pack and ended up breaking and flushing them all down the toliet. Hard to imagine but it felt good doing it.

I was pretty slow to give up cigs completely. But someone here told me to focus on the ones I didn't smoke and not the ones I smoked. That removed a lot of pressure. In the beginning, it wasn't an end all to smoking cigs, it was something different to do. Pretty soon I stopped counting the ones I didn't smoke and just did what I felt like doing. I still have a half a carton of cigs in the freezer, and i choose not to light one up. Took a little while, but vaping became the norm and smoking a cig now just seems silly to me. I can have a cigarette anytime I like, but I choose not too because of vaping. This is just a few months in btw. Go easy on yourself with the tobacco and the change over can happen, just don't over think it. I am going to a friends birthday party saturday night, she still smokes. I plan to vape, but after a few drinks if I choose to smoke a cig, I will and not worry a bit about it.

I've been vaping for almost a year and I still smoke some.
Admittedly I did not begin vaping to stop smoking but because I was curious about vaping
I did get down to 2 cigarette's a day for a long time but then started having some medical issues and have fallen back on smoking.
I vape when I can and smoke when I can't and have just stopped worrying about it, vaping is much more pleasurable :)

As Mikie said, don't count the one's you do smoke ... count the one's you don't!

And welcome to the ECF forum btw :)

I actually do both. I smoke 5 or 6 a day at work with my co-workers and vape when at home after work and on the weekends. Been doing that for over a year now. House doesn't smell like smoke but I still get the social interaction from the smoke shack at work. I personally enjoy both still and don't really beat myself up about still smoking, life beats you up enough without you helping it.

I have a friend that's been vaping for 3 years or so now and he still smokes when he drinks or when he doesn't feel like mixing anything or paying for juice at one of the vape shops

Me I can't stand the smell of cigarettes again. The taste of them kinda makes that little bit of throwup come up into the back of my throat. It's not pleasant.

    Everyone's different though.

It actually took me a couple of attempts before I gave up cigarettes completely. What really helped me was finding a friend at work to quit with me. We both went to a local B&M and stocked up on juice and coils and quit the next morning and we have both been smoke free for 46 days and counting. Having support really helped me.

The ECF is support too. Don't forget. And you are right, you need support.

Most of my friends didn't know I was quitting until I was done. And they were AMAZED. All my smoking friends are quitting now with great success. If I can do it, anyone can.
