Hey Missy I would love to come , I doubt that this year I can do it:( Sure is tempting though! Darn girl we have to get you a bow, or if nothing else a camera:)
You could take pics of what you saw and what he didnt get LOL OH OH I am in trouble with Bob now haha, but it would get you out in the woods with him and it really is a blast!

The kid is grown up and he is ok. He lost most of the feeling in one hand from nerve damage but he does fine. He is still a little nervy around bear though, for which I cant blame him.

LOL the deer here are so small it is hardly worth the work to butcher them. I'm probably gonna get jumped for that one by the southern hunters :( but really , when you are used to 130 lbs and up they look really small here LOL.

One of the things down here is hog hunting. I haven't done it, and they are supposed to be mean critters, but I have seen plenty of them.

Ok I have a few minutes reprieve and can post a hair.

All in all it was a good day fishing. I wish out hunting licenses were that cheap. It costs me $98 for the tags I get and thats with only 2 doe tags if you get them. If you dont get a doe tag you dont get the $20 back you paid for it either.

The Bear are really making a comeback in this ares for sure. They are being spotted all over the place and im glad. It would be nice to be able to harvest one of them as well. Meat is a little gamier on them but still worth the effort.

We do have some good fishing here though for what it is and I enjoy everytime I get to go out there and fish.

Well im gonna take a few to relax and try to get a BBQ going .

We have a ton of bear around my area. I love to go blackberry picking and I always come across them. I carry a side arm just in case, but for the most part if you make enough noise you will not see anything but their rear end as they take off.

The problem is the tags are not cheap and it's a lottery and you don't get your money back if you don't get a tag. A group in Detroit has been talking all kinds of people into applying for tags in our area, so that when they get one they burn the tag and feel all warm and fuzzy because they saved a bear. If they tried living with them they might think differently. They tromp through my orchard rip up trees destroy my rasberries. They have knocked the door in on my garage and rampaged through it, the damn thing took it out on my three wheeler and popped the tires. Pooped all over the place. Argg and you don't dare shoot one without a permit. I called the DNR and they trapped it and took it about a hundred miles away and dropped it off. Sure as snuff it was back in a week. Big old bear with a white streak down it's back. Finally one of my neighbors got a tag and shot it.

They get two or three every year at my dads camp in the UP so I get a bunch of meat every year. My dad has shot six with his long bow one of which was the sixth biggest taken that year. They measure it by skull size after it has dried. The meat is great it's almost like a sweet flavored beef. The fat is NASTY so you have to get rid of all of it.

In the over 40 years that my dad has owned his camp they have only kicked out one member. This dillhole went and shot a sow with two cubs and bragged about it like he was the man.

Once I was bow hunting in a tree blind for deer and I had a sow with two cubs that would just not go away. It got very dark like it does up in the UP and I thought she was gone. Nope as I started to climb down, she was right underneath me and started snapping her teeth at me. (I just got goosebumps thinking about it). I very quickly climbed back up and pulled my bow back up. I always lower it down and take it up on a string. I pulled out my sidearm and fired a shot in the air. One of the cubs climbed up my tree, but once it saw me in jumped out like it could fly. No harm no fowl they went their way and I went mine. But I still had about a mile walk out through a tag alter swamp with a flashlight that was dead. All in all it was a great day.

I dont hunt only catch and release reptiles.. go and find rattlesnakes get some pictures and send them on their way.. so smoking never effected that.. have had many times where i would get within 20-30 feet from a deer while out..

im all for hunting though if done legally.. there are not enough natural predators for deer anymore if ppl where not out hunting population would get to high and then there would just be a massive die off from disease or starvation..

Brad I`m with you completely, don`t know if I cam across that way or not? If it`s legal it`s none of my business. I`m just one who has seen the benefit of ARs, and believe the opposition would be, and has been in the Northern counties short lived. It forces people to keep the doe population in check as well. Honestly I have nothing to complain about as archery tags are $14 for 2 any deer tags, and unlimited doe tags for $7. Where they have implemented ARs there are unlimited rifle tags doe tags for $7 as well as another 10 day doe season that comes with it. That is the part that doesn`t thrill me, as with ML, rifle, and the additional doe season there are close to 30 days of gun pressure. After all I didn`t start out bow hunting and can forget that sometimes forget that sometimes :D :toast:

No offense taken at all. I just wish people would do the right thing without the government becoming involved. It's been many years since I have taken a small buck, but we have nieghbors who shoot everything in site and then they have their scrotum pole. I guess they don't want to show off all the little spikers and four points they shoot. Oh well it's their land and all, it's just annoying to pass up a nice young buck only to see it wonder over to their property. I don't mind so much when it's clearly a small buck that doesn't have great genetics, but damn when you see one that you know should be around for a long time spreading it's genes around it kind of bums you out.

I was wondering about the same thing. I mean you can always just stealth vape to the point where there would not be a vapor trail. I mean even dipping in a stand unless you gut it will cause a mess and leave a smell. I haven't been vaping long enough to go through a hunting seaon, but I am excited to check it out this fall.

even if you dont see vapor...there will still be the scent..I think the best option is to get something like some strong doe estrus and go with a unsscented/unflavored juice and only vape when needed.....Its all about moderation...I hunt in archery season in NY and i also do NOT smoke during bow season...shotgun/rifle..the deer dont have a chance as it is :) which is why i dont reallt participate in gun season...I like the challenge of archery and I feel you are connected more to the animals and forestry when bow hunting...sorry off topic...Deer can smell very well and i think if a scented/flavored juice could be picked up regardless if the hit is held in so the best thing to is vape only when needed, use a unflavored juice, and get something to mask the scent :) happy hunting!

Hey Brad are you any where around Grayling? My parents had a cabin in Luzerne and we would hunt there when we were young.

I seem to remember something about the bear population increasing around Grayling.
Even as a kid around Luzerne we would see them sometimes.

I had a young bear chase me to the door in a cabin in the UP as a kid. Good thing I wasnt far from the door and he decided to leave instead of come in .LOL.

That`s why I originally posed the question, but people that have experience suggest otherwise. It`s early yet, but I need to get a salt lick out and hang a camera. I think I`ll pattern them, and try it beforehand. I`ll report back my opinion.

I'm about an hour's Drive North East on Lake Huron. We had a smaller one probably about 150lb's that wandered into town just as school was getting out. The kids had a blast running it out of town, poor bear.

I get over to Grayling once in a while, it's the big city compared to were I grew up. (We only had about 350 people in our whole town). My friend is a Major who works at the Grayling Army Airfield.
