Vaping and Hunting

No problem on the noobie questions not every one is a hunter and there is alot to learn.

I will aim for the heart if a perfect shot presents it self but generally go for a double lung shot as it is a easier target and it dont take long for them to expire at all.

I do eat all the meat and all the hides are donated to the American Legion I am a member at and the use them for sifferent things and have them tanned and stuff. I also donate some meat every year when it is plentiful to the less fortunate and have some of my meat made into Pepperoni, Kielbasa, Sausage, Hamburger and I make alot of Jerky.

Depending if the rack on it is nice or not I will have a mount at the taxedermist done and have a friend that is learning it and I give him some stuff to practice on. I try to make use of everything from it and will not waste a thing.

Dkrom68 I hang with you. I get busy today, and between that and goofing around here I didn`t call you. I was going to post some general hunting stuff in hre again, but didn`t know if it was appropriate.

To Danyulc I echo echo everything Dkrom says about eating, and add that I make kabobs out of the more tender cuts in just like 3/4 in. cubes and depending on who it is, sometimes I won`t tell them it`s venison. You wouldn`t believe the complments I get! People say deer tastes gamey, well that because the "fat" on a deer is not something that you want to eat, and I would never send my deer to a processor for 2 reasons. 1st the big processors don`t mark each deer to ensure that you get yours back. They weigh yours and you get your weight back in venison (you may get the one that the guy shot, didn`t find right away,and went back to camp had a few beers, and waited until the next morning to retrieve). 2nd they run them through a band saw and the bone marrow of a deer is something else you wouldn`t care for. I said 2 but there are actually 3 or more, but 3rd I take my time and am very thorough when trimming any excess fat.

Some is unavoidable, and gets ground up and made into burger or jerky, but steaks and my kabob meat is almost purple in color when I`m done with it. You also don`t want to cook venison "well done". It can be very dry, always medium rare with me.

I don`t have the money for taxidermy anymore, I used to have a lot of fish done. Now I just do what`s called a European mount which is just to take the hide off the skull, and boil then power wash it several times, and mount them on a plaque.

Hunting is not for everyone, but if you are interested, it`s kinda lie ecigs, everyone is always more than willing to share there tips to help you out. I have found that it isn`t so much about the actual act, that it is about being out in the woods, and seeing mother nature at her finest. Whenever I think I`ve seen it all I have a brand new experience and am just in awe! Last year I had the biggest 10 pointer walk in from of my 10y.o. son and I in a ground blind at 30 yards, and then stop at 40 and start rubbing a tree. It was crowded in the blind he we were talking, and the last thing I expected was for us to see a deer that close. It wasn`t about "hunting" that night, it was about easing my son into the sport. It was crowded in that blind, but I think I still could have harvested that deer, but I think it was a 50/50 chance, and that`s a risk I wouldn`t take with a beautiful animal like that. Or worse yet, not make a good shot and think that it would suffer.

Should you decide to take up the sport I know myself, and I would think Dkrom as well would be willing to point you in the right direction. Other than archery, deer hunting has been in the decline here in MO. Kids prefer other things I guess, but without us hunters, other population controls would need to be put into place, and accidents involving deer being hit by cars would skyrocket, which would involve companies to raise their rates. Just last year not far from here a group of teenage guys died from going off the road trying to avoid a deer.

Dkrom68 good stuff! You to Brad, I would ask though are the deer you are seeing patterned to where they are comfortable around humans to begin with as opposed to being out in the woods? The more responses I see it sure looks encouraging, and may even be an advantage. My best case hope was to at least not put myself at a disadvantage, and I`m becoming convinced of at least that much. Got a bottle of vanutla I`ll have to save! Vanilla and nut, sounds like I can`t go wrong.

I agree with Dkrom as well. I know soooo many guys that say smoking doesn`t matter, heck I myself took my biggest buck ever smoking. I say to this it is the exception more than the rule. Guys that CONSISTENTLY harvest monster bucks don`t smoke, and pay close attention to scent.

Anyways thanks fellow vapers and hunters, I sure enjoy input on both of these subjects as well as fishing which I figured went without saying

Out bow hunting or scouting. I wouldn't count the ones in my apple orchard those one you can walk the greenhouse and back and they don't run away.

My one buddy scouts practically all year and is a fanatic about his scent, vapes without a problem.

I don't let much go to waste, but the only mounts I have are the ones I do myself or the ones my dad did for me when I was younger. I tan the hides myself. A few years back I made drums from them and it turned out great.

I don't gun hunt much anymore except for a muzzle loading trip each year into the pidgeon river forest. That is the only time I hunt looking for a trophy. It's one heck a long hike back in when you have to take everything you can carry on your back and nothing more. No vehicles of any kind allowed offroad. Plus it's Northern Michigan in the start of winter. I have camped out in it with everything from freezing rain to blizzards.

I'm a bit squeamish about harming animals but doing it the way you guys are doing it is very respectful. It's certainly much better for the animals you are eating than the ones made into meat bought in a store. I'm not sure if I could ever do it myself, but, I probably never would've survived if I'd been born 500 years ago either, lol.

Honestly it sounds intriguing, most people get into it via their father, but mine was never into that kind of stuff. He was more the TV watching type, lol.

I'd probably do best as a 'hunting sidekick'. Where I just kind of travel with the hunters and drink beer and tell jokes. I'm pretty good at telling jokes, lol. Not like standard issue jokes, but, people generally burst into spontaneous laughter when I'm around. Something to do with my crazy brain and the stuff it puts out via my mouth. Sometimes it is a nice 'feature' to have. Other times it can be a royal pita!

Good stuff Brad you guys are a different bread when it comes to snow and cold. I`ve thought about taxidermy as I`m eligible for voc rehab due to disability, but it`s just such a competitive market around here. It`s like anything though, do good work, and people will refer others and keep coming back. I know personally I pay $15 an inch for fish from a guy when I can get them as low as $10, but the guy just does phenomenal work. His iridescence in them are just incredible. He warrantys the finish for life, and when i clean them they look like they just came out of the water.

That place looks huge by the scale 150 square miles or so? crazy! I imagine GPS is a must.

BTW it`s time for a game cam and salt lick, possibly some corn for a while (we can`t bait). I let several 120-130s walk last year, and i know they made it. I`m dying to see them this year, although one looked pretty old and may be going the other way, I`d have taken him but didn`t get the chance. Several 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 y.o. that are now a year older, time for the taking. Hoping 140-150 ish this year.

And Danyulc I didn`t grow up a hunter. My dad was a fisherman. I thought I could never harvest a deer, buy once out there and around other hunters my attitude changed. You`d fit right in. Nothing like deer camp with the drinking, stories and jokes. Tag along with someone if you know anyone, you may find something you really enjoy. I didn`t even carry a gun the 1st year i went, I just tagged along, since then I rifle hunt, archery, and now muzzle loader hunt. WARNING it can be addictive, and there are gadgets for everything!

I agree totally on the way the meat is prepared and butchered. I do most of my own butchering and my brother in law is a butcher by trade so I let him do some of the more important cuts and make all my hamburger, sausage and steaks. Its not that I dont know how to do it but when he gets going its like watching a Chef in a Chinese place with all the trick and things flying, plus he gets it done so much faster then I do.

I have one place I bring me venison to for making the specials like Pepperoni and such and all meat is already cleaned and butchered and I get my own meat back for certain. I dont want no ones tainted meat thats for sure.

Hunting is an addiction for sure and there are new gadgets coming out all the time and can get quite expensive but the comradery and experiences are so worth it. I have done alot of filming of deer and have some really good footage of deer fighting, young bucks mock fighing a tree ( that was hilarious) does diciplining there young and just great footage of deer in general. I enjoy the outdoors immensly and wouldnt have a problem living in the wild if I ever needed to.

I enjoy just sitting in the tree stand for the peace and quiet and the serenity it gives along with the beauty of nature. It fun to have squirrels walk up and down the tree you are in or right next to it and stare at you cause they are curious and everything else you get to see. Deer, Bear, Foxes, Coyotes, Sqirrels, Chipmunks, Turkies, an occasional Hawk hunting himself and swooping down on something, the beauty of nature in all its glory is a mesmerizing thing and the hours fly by when it good but there are the days that nothing comes by and its still all worth it to avoid the everyday drone of things. I agree with the saying that " A bad day of hunting or fishing is beter than a good day at work".

Now Im the one ranting on Zbass but its all these things that we can just talk about and go on for hours about and if there is a listening ear from someone with interest and the willing to learn it compells us to give back our knowledge to the ones who havent had the experiences themselves.

All in all I recommend everyone try it at least a couple times and give it a chance, I think if they did they would enjoy it, even if there was no harvesting of the animals, just the beauty of Nature to be experinced.

i havent been in a stand yet , but i can tell you in the scrub , my Boxxy will be coming with me , and now that i have found a nice fixable solution to atomizers , i should be good for opening day , and at least a day after that if i need it...


maybe this year ill get a nice shot , but i doubt it . the only deer i see is the white part...i swear thats a natural taunt ....


on a side note : the fishing has picked up , but im not sure if its cause the fish dont smell smoke on my lures and flies , or if the fish are really addicted to nicotine , and its just all over my hands...

I would have to say the smoking is a big problem with the hunting and probably wind direction. They smell things and if you are in a well hunted erea that could add to the skittishness of the deer.

As for the fishing When I smoked I feel it had a negative impact on the scent put on the bait. Im a live bait type a person and rarely use a lure. When I stopped smoking and using the PV I only used cartomizers when out fishing and hunting for the ease of use cause I predominatley am a dripper. Fishing picked up alot and Im really careful about scent on the hands as well. I did good fidhing before smoking dont get me wrong but have done alot better without is.

Fish go by smell as well as site and see them spit things out that they would otherwise devour when I smoked but now they inhale like normal.

Fishing is going to be tomorrow for me and need to decide if its gonna be the Brookie stream or the Brown and Rainbow creek. Both are good but the Browns and Rainbow are so fun in the Esopus Creek and one of the prestigious ones for NY for Flyfishing. Although Flyfishing isnt my cup of tea my little 4'6" Ultralight Ugly Stick and Flueger real are awesome for it and even the small 8" ones give a nice fight plus I can lay it where I want in all the eddies behind the rocks. FUN FUN FUN

Just a family thing I guess.
I tought my sons, as my father tought me , if you are not going to eat it , dont shoot it!
They grew up to be good hunters too , of that, I am proud.
We hunted white tails on state land and our own private land later on.
I really think a nice apple vape would not spook them, it may even attract them.
They do like the apples. It should help mask any scent you may have picked up getting out in the woods too.
There is nothing in the world better then a blind in the woods and a good bow.
I like it even more then gun hunting.
The guys were the duck hunters though, sorry, I am not doing that one LOL I am not into breaking the ice on the water
Hoping all have a good and productive hunt this fall !

yeah i was hoping to try out some NY streams this year , as i drive a lot for work , but a client of ours backed out , so i have only been to new york a cuople times this year...

last time i was up by the winery at erie presque isle , and saw there was a neighborhood that basically was on the water , every backyard had a dock , and a little maybe 10' wide cove to motor through.... i wanted to stop so bad , but i didnt have a ny permit...


lets see smoe pics of thos brooks...all i have don here was some dinky stocked darter bows , they fought good , but i have never heard good things about stocked fish

All the room in the world for a Lady in here and applaud that you are a hunter and specifically the bow. I got my Wife and Daughter shooting the bow just wish I could get them to hunt as well. No wasted meat here, that will never happen.

I like the Apple vape and we have alot of orchards here but not sure if there is no orchards around where you hunt if it may have the opposite effect.

All ready itching for fall to get here, I think I was itching when season ended in Dec.

If you get a chance to check some out look into the Esopus Creek in the Phoenecia area as it is one of the best places. I hit it quite a few times a year and always have good luck. It is a stocked stream but theres alot of natives as well. I put most back unless there not gonna make it or it a good fish. I hooked a 20" brown out of there 2 weeks ago and for that creek a big one is about 16". Needless to say dinner was good that night LOL.

There are alot of good fishing up north and if you can hit at the steelhead time up north it is amazing. Or when the salmon are running but it is wall to wall people and not always a pretty sight. I prefer the small out of the way spots all to myself with no one to bother me. I have a few hidden holes and they are good.

unfortunately I am in Florida this year. I wont be hunting Frankly the deer here are so darn small it is like shooting a dog! Hardly worth the work to butcher it LOL.
Not to mention they dont taste like northern deer,
I'm not much on being in the wild everglades here either, too many gators for my liking and they are protected too.

When I get back up north it will be a different story.

yeah here in northern ohio , i was doing a lot of solo fishing this winter , and i really liked it. besides the whole "ice on the guides" , it was nice to be in a foot of snow , catching ice cold crappie....

now that summer is here , the lake is high , the outlet where my winter spot was , is now under 9 fow , and even the shoreline there was flooded last time i went.

i should have kept those winter crappie , but i thought i needed a bucket to put them in... im pretty sure i could have tossed em right into the snowbank till it was time to go...




on a last note , im sure there are some vapes that would drive the deer nuts , i have heard orange peel , clove , and garlic , mash em all up , and put into an old (clean) sock , toss it out when youre scouting , and the deer will bed close...

probably an old wives tale , but it would be a start...

im sure we can get some estrous base e-liquid... just make sure your gun doesnt freeze or youre screwed....

I actually looked into a estrus liquid and Perfumers Apprentice has something quite similar and is used in perfume but just the thought of vaping it made me gag the smell of estrus is rough but we always smell it anyways LOL
