I would like to see some data on "The Weight aspect of vaping vs. Smoking"

Please only vote if you:
1) Were a smoker before you started vaping
2) Completely quit (analog) cigarette smoking
3) Have been vaping for at least 3 months

If you have tried to quit smoking before and had weight gain or loss and your experience is different with vaping, please post a comment of the differences.
Any comments are welcome :)

Note: My fear of gaining weight was one of the reasons I couldn't bring myself to quit smoking. I had quit smoking in the past and gained about 20 lbs., I hated the feeling of being overweight as much as I hated the fact that I was a smoker, neither option was healthy. When I started smoking again, the weight gradually came off to a normal, healthy weight, albiet I would not consider myself healthy because of the cigarettes. I have remained the same weight +/- a pound or 2 for the last couple of years now.
I have been vaping for a couple of weeks, so I will not vote on the poll until I have had succeeded with 3 months of strictly vaping.

I gained weight, but I was also on a strict all water and high protein 1,500 - 2,000 calorie diet. I also stopped exercising. So I don't blame vaping for the weight gain.

I stopped the diet/exercise/cigarettes and started vaping, lol.

My food consumption is the same as it was before the diet. I did start eating more desserts and sweets though. It could be b/c my girlfriend has a sweet tooth and cons me into it.

I am vaping 10mg, have been for 5 months, lost 5lbs, eating less, exercising the same.

Wow! That's great!

Only been vaping 2 mos so I didn't vote.
Vaping @ 36 mg + 2 cigs a day.
Lost 12 lbs so far!!
Not really any diet changes but energy level is way up.
This is really amazing,losing weight,feeling better,living longer,saving money!!
A miracle in my opinion.:D

Same for you :) Please remember to come back next month and vote :D

I gained about 10lbs in about 3months after I quit the analogs. However today I am starting the no carbs diet. It worked well for me before... Been analog free for around 90days...

I think the statistics as far as quitting smoking cigarettes is about a 10lb weight gain, so you're in that ball park....best of luck with the no carb diet.:)
Happy Vaping

Vaping 8 months
Lost 10 pounds (really)
Vape 24mg juice
DO NOT exercise more
Eat less

I didn't need to lose weight and my doctor told me 5 pounds ago to NOT lose anymore. Can't help it.

But..............I do have less get up and go. I won't discount age (58).

Had you ever tried to quit smoking before for any period of time? If so, did you lose or gain weight?
I find this so interesting...I know some people ARE gaining weight, but many are losing or just maintaining...Most everyone I know that has quit smoking with some other cessation tool has gained at least 10 lbs...but many have gained 15 and more.
Seems like these may help quit a few people that don't want to give up analogs due to worries of gaining weight...not a guarantee, but more hopeful than other avenues.
Here's to drinking a couple of milkshakes :)

Btw....I like your avatar...is that a real PV?

I've lost weight, exercise more, been exclusively vaping since mid April of 2010, and I use 6mg nic. I used to smoke a pack of yellow American Spirits in a 24 hour period.

An aside: when people say they 'smoke a pack a day' does that mean from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed, or does it mean in 24 hours?

Anyway. I hadn't worked out steadily in six or more months. Now I'm doing Crossfit, which is absolutely brutal, and there's no way I would've been able to do it while smoking analogs. I probably eat more, but that has more to do with kicking my metabolism in the ... than vaping.

Generally, I feel a thousand times better than I did when I smoked analogs. My alcohol consumption has gone down too, which is nice. I'm pretty sure I used to drink just so I could enjoy smoking analogs more. Now that they aren't around, I find it less appealing.

Very interesting thread!

Ikayn, interesting that you should mention alcohol consumption. I don't drink alcohol but I'm a big coffee drinker and my coffee consumption is way down since I began vaping. I used to REQUIRE a venti from Starbucks everyday at 5pm-ish (I work evenings) or else my mood would crash, I called it my liquid cheerfulness. Now I skate right through the day without feeling the need. I'm also down from 2-3 cups in the morning to 1 or 2. It's an odd and very obvious change for me.

I have tried before, not very successful and yes, I did gain weight, up to 10 pounds. I still don't know why I'm losing weight, very strange thing but I'm not unhappy about it.

I think if I stopped smoking and didnt vape I would want to be eating all the time, but thats not the case while vaping. Ive maintained my weight with no change in eating habits.

But I just got a REALLY good bottle of juice in the mail so I may stop eating all together now...j/k although I do hear about how some people feeling a bit less like running for something sweet if they have a great vape.
