There's no denying for most of us the positive health benefits of vaping over smoking. But it's also hard to deny the "hobby" aspects than many of us find as well... like trying different flavors, collecting different devices, building mods, mixing our own liquids, etc. Smoking cigarettes is boring by comparison ;)

I definitely agree that smoking cigarettes is boring...after while I got sick of them, but still wasted countless money on packs of smokes every day, simply because I was addicted...sometimes it felt like a chore to smoke a cigarette, because of the awful taste and the way my lungs felt. The wonderful taste of vaping will always be enough to keep me off analogs, and I consider it a hobby myself...I always spend hours, sometimes days, researching products before I buy something, and that is definitely half of the fun for me :vapor:

Good point. OTOH, for lots of people our 'hobbies' themselves are killing us, and for some of us, smoking, along with its assorted paraphernalia, was certainly a hobby. While I mostly smoked cigarettes for convenience I also have a collection of pipes, and occasionally enjoyed a fine cigar. At one time I was into exceptional liquors. All these things, I think, qualified as "hobbies" for me, and every one of them was killing me in its own good time.

My point is, if a deadly hobby can be replaced with a non-deadly one that is a good thing. I think Life is supposed to be fun; I *don't think* everything that's fun is supposed to be in Life.

Vape Happily! :vapor:

Haha, I guess I had a couple of "hobby" habits with smoking. Cigarettes from other countries are still irresistible to me, partially because Canadian cigarettes are awful. And I kinda regret that I didn't get in to pipe smoking before I quit, because I like collecting things. A few gorgeous mods will probably make me forget about that, though. ;)

I definitely started as a hobby, coming from smoking hookah and such. I have got to say that I enjoy this even more. You don't have to spend 10-15 minutes setting up and cleaning a hookah haha. Plus it tastes better!

lol, have you seen that e-hookah. theres a video on youtube about it, i think grimmgreen did a presentation on it at a vaporcon. pretty funny. this, alas, is probably old news, but nonetheless, when you mentioned hookah, i thought of it.

I had a psychologist once tell me that he had a theory about smokers. He said that, in his experience, smokers usually carried their stress in their chest and that smoking was a way to feel in control of their stress. He did not discount the addictive nature, but I have to agree that there is something comforting about the feeling that comes with the inhalation of smoke and the same with the vapor. I think this may be why so many can use the e-cig where other alternatives to smoking fail. As far as it being a hobby possibly some non-smokers get the same pleasurable feeling from that inhale. 0 percent nic juice is available. Maybe that is why. All the pleasure without the negative effects.

Now that's interesting, Bugs! For years as a smoker (& drinker & too many other things I try to avoid now) I've had a theory about psychologists ..... :D

(Seriously though, yeah... that psychologist may have been onto something there. Maybe that's part of the "relaxation factor" we feel.)

I think that although science indicates that vaping with nicotine is about as harmful as a caffeine addiction that the eventual goal of all of us vapers should be to achieve freedom from nicotine dependence. With that accomplished and using 0mg e-juice our next goal should be to rid ourselves of the mental need to vape since the physical one is no longer an issue. That said, if vaping is keeping you from smoking analogs then vape is what we must do. My grandfather, when I told him I was quitting, confided in me that he had once chewed and smoked and that he quit cold turkey because "he never wanted to be a slave to any man". These words are profound. I hope that they can inspire you as much as they have inspired me. At the end of the day it is your life. It's your gift to do with as you please.

I can't really agree that the ultimate goal should be not to vape at all. At the point where your'e vaping 0 nic, it's no longer an addiction, it's a habit like any habit you find enjoyable. Thinking that stopping vaping is a step toward being a slave to no man is an exercise in self-delusion. If you enjoy doing anything on a regular basis, besides perhaps calisthenics, you ARE a slave to whoever is providing the equipment necessary to participate in that activity. You play basketball regularly, you're a slave to the mfg. of basketball equipment. Like to read? You're a slave to publishers and authors. Like to watch T.V., you're a slave to thousands of entertainment people. Like to vape? You're a slave to vaping supply mfgs and vendors. There's no difference. No man is an island.

Addiction as such doesn't really bother me much. It's when the addiction is harmful to someone that it's a fault.

Vaping for fun? Absolutely! I'm never been a smoker, and I've been vaping an 801 for years. Non-nic juice, just pure PG. Sometimes flavored, but often not.

PVs are a great tool for lifelong smokers to ditch the carcinogens...but that's only a fraction of what the PV is truly capable of. PG's properties as an air sanitizer make PVs a potential world-changer. Reduction of airborne pathogens is something to which everyone should have access. Part of that is making the vaping experience enjoyable; something that people want to do.

Nicotine isn't a carcinogen, isn't anything like the horned, cloven-hoofed beast the anti-smoking Nazi regime would have people believe. But it is a vasoconstrictor, and it's very addictive. At the end of the day, it isn't good for you.

For my own part, I don't have a problem with that. Life is short, simple pleasures few—and you can plausibly argue the case for counting nicotine one among and embracing it, even if it shaves minutes off the back end of your life.

Or so I do argue, for my own purposes.

If, however, you truly vape only for recreational purposes, to "...experience flavors," you sound like a good candidate for zero-nic, zero harm vaping.

off topic but .. love the avatar PoliticallyIncorrect...LOL

Oh this is absolutely a hobby for me, and one that I'm proud of, because I no longer smoke. I love trying flavors, reviewing them (though I'm way behind). I love talking to smokers about vaping. I love looking into new pv's, and can't wait till I get my next one. I really enjoy vaping.

I don't have any profundities to add. But I just wanted to say I'm totally ok with this being a hobby lol. I truly enjoy it, and its saved my life :)
