In short: nothing to see here, move along

I read the whole thing and was wondering the whole time "what's so bad about the cough reflex sensitivity" until they say in the end:
The clinical significance, if any, of the transient, acute effect that we have demonstrated, as well as the consequences of chronic electronic cigarette exposure remain to be elucidated.

Why post junk for others to use against vaping ?

Let's all just go find them more garbage to twist and use against vaping - make it easier for them.

Not !

That junk will make the rounds of internet soon, whether we like it or not. It's better to have an early warning about it here. It's in fact a very fresh article.

We can make fun of junk, can't we? Ridendo castigat mores.

Apart from being junk overall, it's junk in terms of methodology as well.

They don't appear to have a control group who inhaled harmless steam (or something similar) to measure against.

And then you would also have to compare with the facts: if 10 million people are exposed for 10 years to the factor being researched, and there is zero result, then your funders' desire to find some sort of correlation with COPD (stage 1, reversible, in any case) appears to be shot. Shame.

Ah well, there's plenty of money in junk science, so just try again. Kerr-ching!

Aaah I found the use of this study. Tells us that vapers are less likely to cough when pepper sprayed. Obviously, as a means to evade police authority, vaping shall be banned.

As a cop, I have to renew my OC (pepper spray) certifications often, to do this we are sprayed directly in the face and then given specific tasks to complete. After each one it becomes much easier and recovery time from exposure is usually reduced. I'm usually back to normal now after 5-10 minutes where on my first certification it took almost an hour. Capsicum tolerance is relative I think.

My own experience is that smoking cigarettes numbs the airway a lot more than vaping does; since getting free of cigarettes, now ALL smoke makes me cough a lot more than cigarettes ever did, and back in the early spring when the pollen was so thick, I could *feel* the dust in the air, the minute I stepped outside.
