Hi all,

I like in the UK but am off to Florida on holiday at the end of next week. We'll be doing the normal touristy stuff like the theme parks, SeaWorld etc. So, what are the general rules (legal and social) on vaping, please? Is it OK on the street, in the theme parks etc? I assume for bars or restaurants it's a discretionary thing? Any info appreciated!! I know there are others posts on here about this but generally they are from people visiting from other states, and I have no idea how common/accepted vaping is in America generally! Any help appreciated!!!

Whilst posting I may as well ask an utter noob techie question too... I have a 510 battery which as far as I know is generic. I see lots of references to Joye 510 and Ego 510 batteries and kit. Are they just different makes? I assume they all use the same carts, attys etc? I believe the ego-t is different and uses a tank system that can't be used on other 510 batteries but may be wrong on that too. Any help appreciated :)

Thanks all as always.

Generally, just ask when in doubt. You'll probably see a few other people walking around with their cigalikes too! I get more people just asking me what it is and have yet to be hassled for breaking it out anywhere. You're more likely to be met with curiosity than hostility. My town is very vaper-friendly, at least. A lot of people around here have seen them before, already know what they are, and think they are neat. I really don't think the scene is too different in say, Orlando, either.

Bars (especially indoor ones) tend to be cool with vaping. You'll probably find more people vaping in them than anywhere else simply because you can't smoke in them and you already know how we all love to smoke while drink and drink while we smoke! Look around and see if you can spot a vaper. If not, just ask the bartender. I haven't tried restaurants because I don't often eat in them, but I would ask first. It's probably okay if you just ask the person serving you. The only place I would be truly hesitant to vape in would be a hospital.

I think just don't walk around blowing massive plumes in people's faces and you'll be fine. It's not illegal to vape in places where smoking is banned, though it's still up to whoever's in charge there whether or not to allow it. Generally if you just ask politely and/or be discreet, there will be no problems. Hospitals would be about the only place I would be iffy about even asking.

510 refers to the threading on the battery. You can mix and match brands and they will all fit so long as they are 510. The eGo is another general name for a battery with two sets of threading: the inner is 510 and the outer is just eGo. You can put any old 510 on an eGo battery, but you can't put an eGo tank/clearo on a 510 battery... ...does that make sense?

Hi all,

Thanks for all your answers, that's very encouraging. Zyglrox, yes, it makes a lot more sense now, certainly about the outer thread. Shall hopefully have a look in a vaping shop whilst in Florida, as there aren't too many in the uk, so haven't the pleasure yet. Should be a lot easier to get my head round when you actually get to see/touch/try some kit, instead of ordering off the internet and hoping for the best!

In Floridaze we are fairly laid back! Vaping in public is fine. If your in a bar or restaurant just ask the staff, explain if needed, they are usually cool with it. As always discretion and tact is king and I gather just from your inquiry you are well suited to both! Enjoy your stay and remember, no socks with sandals. I think there is a $50.00 fine for that!!! lol

Hi Nimit!

I live in Florida. So I can tell you first hand that vaping is legal. As far as social norms, it is generally frowned upon to do in restaurants, vaping has only really started here and most owners don't know what it is yet (and well the Seniors think you're smoking) but its catching on pretty quickly.

My advice would be to ask the management of the restaurant. Same is true for other public indoor areas unless you can pull off stealth vaping. In your hotel--do as you please. Unless your juice has a particularly strong room note (Mrs Katz for example can smell some of my juices for hours after I was vaping them, though she finds the smell usually pleasant) house keeping probably won't be able to tell. I don't go to Orlando very often so I can't tell you about whatever city ordinances that they have but the State itself doesn't regulate vaping (well yet anyway).

As to vaping on the street--feel free. I've never been bothered by anyone for vaping in public, though I have been asked "What's that you're smoking?" A simple explanation of what your PV is and how it works usually suffices.

As for hardware, you should be fine. 510 is a type of threading and 510s will usually work on an ego batt, but ego equipment may not work on a 510 batt. That said if you find you are in need of hardware or juice, I would recommend a day trip to Edgewater Florida to LJ Esmokes. I happen to buy from their B&M frequently, they have great service.
