As a smoker I only did so in designated areas at theme parks and the like, didn't inside eating establishments even before it was banned because I loathe the smell of a cigarette while eating so I didn't want to be a hypocrite by doing so. I didn't smoke in the house because people eat in my house and didn't smoke in any vehicle unless it was mine and I was solo or the passenger was a smoker and smoking. My twin brother smokes in his house,I didn't smoke in his house it out habit at home.
I vape in my house but only in my man cave when watching tv or reading. It's what I always wanted to do when I smoked so it's like that old dude that finds the toy in eBay he never had as a kid. Plus I don't feel guilty for not wanting to get off my lazy .... and go outside. I don't vape in my, or anyone else's, vehicle unless I'm solo. I don't vape in stores because I'm not in them long enough to need hits of nicotine usually. I don't vape in tight crowds because I want the excuse to get away from the crowd , whether that crowd is the smoking section or something else. I don't vape in the vape store and I think I'm the only one not vaping every time I go in one.
To me I have rights but also responsibilities for not abusing those rights.
As far as offending someone, just being me is going to offend someone at some point so I'm just going to be the best me I can be and not think twice about it. If my vaping on a public sidewalk outside on a breezy day offends someone 100 yards away they can either ask me to stop or get bent out of shape, doesn't matter to me which they choose.
One of the things I truly enjoyed about smoking was how it made people look at me like I have the plague as they avoided me as far as possible, often telling their children not to even look at me. It gave me the solitude I so desperately crave sometimes. Their judgemental looks didn't and still don't bother me because they're getting out of my space as fast as they can while giving me the stare of death.
Most folks I come in contact with occasionally but regularly don't even know I used to smoke and, unless I tell them, don't know I've switched to vaping.
