I've read a few, not all, so forgive me..

We're hoping to achieve our need of nicotine anywhere we are..

First, as I have, understand we have an addiction!
Second, understand, not everyone understands this..
Third, Most don't understand we're not passing on anything that can harm them.. Under-informed or Mis-informed!

Be discreet!
Explain to those that ask

So far, I've done pretty good this way

I see very little "agreement" between your position and that of many veteran vapers. Many of us vape most places (not all) including in buildings, courthouses, etc but do so respectfully and with common sense. Making blanket "rules", as if vaping is the same as smoking, is not a position that many of us can agree with.

I hope you don't think I have the opinion that vaping = smoking, because I don't and I did not say that anywhere. At least I don't think I did. Where most people here, including me, are in agreement is that common sense and being courteous and mindful to others is the way go.

Its illegal to smoke in any public space here, including within 150 ft of any public building--but AFAIK vaping is not addressed, yet. I've never seen anyone vaping in any of these areas and I don't either. But one side of me says I'm tired of being the lonely vaper, hiding in the corner or in my car. The young dudes I talk to at the B&Ms claim they vape at Target, the mall, bars and restaurants with no problem, but I've sure never seen it. I don't have to vape in any public area, but I have to admit I'd get a kick out of it.

Welcome ckn71nm to ECF. I still look at my surroundings to vape when I'm outside just as I did when smoking a cigarette.

Now when I'm in the car and vaping on one of my APV's I don't care. Wonder what those people on the roads think....hopefully more and more will be educated on vaping.

Always in the back of my mind is "will this be the day a cop pulls me over because of me vaping a big AVP that someone has called into the the Police station"?

We have a law which bans the use of electronic devices while driving. I am assuming they mean cell phones, but technically my ecig would fall under that category. I haven't heard of anyone being fined yet...has anyone heard of it?

I think it is pretty rude to tell someone else you have never met they have an addiction. Use of a substance does not automatically equate to an addiction. This term is generally viewed as a negative term when applied to people using a substance. You should speak for yourself and your own addiction.

I view my use of nicotine as a dependence on nicotine since I use it to treat my ADHD and avoid use of Adderall or Ritalin. To me, this is a logical choice. In any case, some of the users on this site may well have an addiction, some of them may not. I see posters regularly use this term as if they are a paid psychologist diagnosing a patient, or they are an NA sponsor or something.

I have a suggestion. Give that term a rest. My bet is that you aren't professionally qualified to use it.

Still remember those good 'ol days when smoking was tolerated indoors; clouds of noxious, highly toxic smoke in every pub and nightclub...at the time of the universal bans, I was ...... beyond measure, but yeah, it's not right smoking tobacco in an enclosed space; Think of the damage being done to someone who was to work in a place where smoking is allowed over the years.

But I went off track there; vaping seems to be so damn new, there doesn't really seem to be any pre-agreed etiquette that I've noticed (at least not in the UK). I mean, I know I can legally vape indoors, but it still feels like a taboo somehow, so I try to avoid it where I can. If I'm in a small cafe or shop, I usually ask the staff if it's alright to vape, and generally they're fine with it. Restaurants seem to be the only real exception.

I wonder how things will look in say five years?

When I am in the courthouses I visit regularly or office buildings with large open areas, I vape but do so in a respectfully way. I don't blow large plumbs of vapor, I don't blow vapor in someones face, I don't vape on occupied elevators, I don't vape in a customer's office suite without permission, etc. I usually have my APV in my hand and about 50% of the time, someone will ask me what it is and then I do a very brief demonstration and explanation. It is always viewed in a positive light and many times I get the response about it having no odor and how quickly the vapor dissipates. I have found that this is the first exposure to vaping for many non-smokers and they walk away with the perception we all hope they will have: that vaping is definitely not smoking and not something to be concerned about.

If I followed the "rule" that some on ECF espouse, that we should only vape in smoking sections, these good informative opportunities would be missed.

I don't know how to "like".
Maybe I need a dreaded facebook account.

I fully agree with the guy from Texas for standing against
uninformed, unfounded and (1st in my life,(64) I'll use this word) and STUPID
regulations.

In my opinion:
Vapor is not smoke.
I don't think we should automatically move to the smoking section... In most cases. I think treating it like smoking in this manor further encourages those who don't know better that it is an equivalent. I do hang out with the smokers occasionally, but mostly because I've found most smokers to be good people, and it's easy conversation.
as vapers, we are (generally) not doing anything wrong. I don't think we should be stealth vaping, except in professional settings or around children - then I'll head outside or to the bathroom.
That being said, there needs to be more research before I would say its "safe." And the offensive Odor bit is a good point. I try to stick to mild or acceptable flavors when I'm out and about, like coffee or mint.
I don't "vape where ever and screw everyone else." I try to be as polite as I can without avoiding it all together. Ask before puffing and take the opportunities to educate. Everywhere except around children and in professional settings. If I'm on my time, I ask an employee and people around me if it's cool if I vape (insert flavor here), wiggling my ego in my hand. Usually the flavor interests people the most. If it's a no, or a not sure, I assure them that it's cool and pop it back in my pocket.
I could quit vaping. I've done it before. I enjoy vaping. I'm not just trying to get my nicotine fix. I usually vape 0 and 4 or 6 mg. I enjoy the act of vaping, but a little nicotine buzz is nice to have every now and then.

I think most others have hit on most of these points.

A lot of awesome people here on ECF!

I have to agree with you on this. My mother has reactions to certain chemicals or perfumes and she can't be around me when I'm vaping off of my e-cigarette. There have also been some studies done that claim their is a potential risk of people being exposed to the second hand vapor. I think that if people want to smoke e-cigarettes than they should be smart about it, and be considerate of others.

I guess I'm a neanderthal but I vape everywhere like a frickin locomotive. I don't vape maliciously to annoy anyone. I enjoy vaping and I do it almost everywhere. I don't vape in movies, not because someone might get offended at the smell, but because I might block the view of someone around me. I don't exhale into people's faces (unless it's friends I'm trying to aggravate). And because of my public vaping, I have had interesting conversations with several smokers asking me what I was doing. This gave me an opportunity to turn them onto vaping. I've even considered carrying disposable cig-alikes to give out because of all of the smokers I meet while I vape.

I've only had one store where one employee approached me angrily while I was vaping, however, when she got closer and saw what I held in my hand, you could see the confusion begin to spread because at first she thought I was smoking. This all lead to an educational conversation and some advice on how to get her father to stop smoking and give vaping a try.

My point is this: Vaping in public gets the word out (especially if you live in a backwards area like I do). Vape unashamedly but with common courtesy. And, when you vape blatantly in public like a smokestack, make sure you have the time to talk to the people who are going to approach you with questions, because they will.

Just call me "Johnny Vaporseed"

This topic came up at work the other day some guys didn't like us vaping in the break room while on break or lunch so now I eat my lunch at my toolbox and vape there too it just eliminates the problems at first I was ...... but realized if I want to keep vaping and not have to go outside then I'll just keep it out of
Their sight
