HA! baby steps, my friend, baby steps!!

As a former newport smoker, is there a particular juice or brand you would recommend? I'm not looking to get him to quit, just to not smoke at home anymore. If he loves it and quits, that would be phenomenal.... if he just does it at home, I will still be thrilled!

Honestly I don't vape menthol juice so someone else would be better suited to answer that. I've tried a couple but they weren't for me. I bet you someone in here now or who is going to see this can give you some better suggestions than I can. Guys?

My hubby wanted nothing to do with my egos and clearos. Lol! He wanted something that looks like a cig and I wanted a good quality one for him. I asked the wonderful folks here for advice and they suggested the volt from smokeless image. It comes in menthol too. A starter kit is affordable at $20. My hubby loves them and is not embarrassed to smoke it around his buddies. Good luck in whatever you choose!!

1- ego with a clearomizer or boge cartos for sampling and a mini vivi nova or kanger t3 tank for regular use, plus a charger.
2- kgo kit with a mini vivi nova or kanger t3 tank.
The JoyTech eGo fires @ 3.3 volts.
The Kgo fires @ 3.7 volts.
I own both and notice the diff in the vape. They both are 510, the most common of threads and accept 510 accessories.
They are both the same size and can be bought in 650 or 1100 mah- 100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping before recharge is needed.
Clearomizer- I used them and although I had no problems I decided and presently use the Vision Mini Vivi Nova Tank holds 2.0 ml juice and looks great on PV) because the build quality is superior to the Clearomizer. It uses a head containing the wick and element. With maintenance (wash and dry burn) the head should last 6-8 weeks. New heads are cheap ($2.00) and easy to replace (10 secs).
In regards to short and long wick...when the clearomizers and Vivi Nova Tanks first came out they had short wicks which caused wicking issues- had to be occasionally "rolled'" to keep the wicks saturated. With the long wick devices I no longer have to roll to keep them saturated BUT I do occasionally roll it to keep the juice well mixed.
The Kanger T3...I don't own it but a friend and his wife purchased 2. His works like a dream while hers leaks like a sieve. Google "Leaking Kanger T3". If you do buy and have issues here's a VERY long vid about resolving these issues.
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/clearomizers/373368-fixing-leaky-kanger-t3.html
As for acidic juices damaging the plastic tanks I switch over to cartomizers for that. If you decide to purchase the Mini Vivi Nova make sure it's The VISION Mini Vivi Nova LONG WICK...some have had problems with knockoffs/ clones.

SOUND OFF....
what would be best for a newbie? If I go with an ego, which battery.... there seem to be a million including all of mAh available, leaving me with roughly a bajillion options.
If he's just gong to be vaping at home the larger 1100 mah would be best IMHO. It really isn't that large.

Here's a Kgo review by PB

Twist would definitely be a step up for him BUT it comes with an older outdated delivery system that's prone to leaking (cartridge+ atomizer):
1 x Tornado eGo-C Mega Twist 1000mAh battery
1 x Tornado eGo-C atomizer body
2 x Atomizer head units in blister packaging
1 x USB charger
3 x Empty refillable tank cartridges
1 x 10ml Bottle of 18mg Titan Fluid available in Tobacco or Menthol flavour

If you don't mind buying from another vendor I can find a better deal for about the same $$.

OK, I think its between these two:

and this:

KGO kit1100mAh by SLB

I like the more bang for your buck in the kgo, but have read some "burnt taste" reviews and wonder if the twist would be better. Opinions?

Thanks for the heads up!!

I don't care where I order from. One of my girlfriends just recommended that kit from that site b/c her son got it for her from there.... she saw me comment on one of PBusardo's videos (thanks FB for putting my business out there, lol) and told me about the one she has. She said she still smokes analogs but uses it for when she's home or out with her hubby (kind of what I expect bd to do).

All that being said, what do you think of the set-up Baditude posted toward the beginning of this thread?

I own both Twists and Spinners and found it very hard to see the voltage #'s on the Twist and the voltage dial is very narrow and smooth- hard to turn- they are common complaints. The dial on the Spinner variable volt is wider and "kurled" so it's much easier to turn and see the voltage markings.
Here's a better package for a little less:
Vision Spinner Variable Voltage Battery
Vision Nova Tank Clearomizer V3 Slim
KGO USB charger
USB AC adaptor 500mAh
Total Cost is $44.00 and all listed above are not clones/ knockoffs.

One link goes to a page with numerous choices- either the Twist or Spinner. His other pick is the gripper.

Edit- see review in Post 59.

I'm a spinner fan too. The button on my twist sticks.

With my Twists on one the dial is very hard to turn/ stuck while the other it turns far too easily...even when I don't want it to. Also on one Twist the button activates for 1 sec after I release it. Just "my" experience.

Here's Gripper review by highly regarded vaper Scott:

The video link that Vapoor used is for the variable voltage version of the Smoketech Gripper and sells for approximately $30.

The one that I actually recommended is just the single-voltage Gripper version for just $16. I admit it is confusing as both models are called the "Gripper." I actually have reservations recommending the variable voltage version (which I own) as it has durability and quality-of-build issues.

If you speak Spanish, this video is probably better than GrimmGreen's, with close-ups of the mod: Gripper Mod - Parte 2 - revision - YouTube

Lot of good suggestions here on hardware, I'd go for an ego battery with a mini viva nova tank for a starter.

The hardware is easy, it's finding the right juice that will keep him satisfied and coming back to vaping. Order sample sizes at different vendors, try many. For a start, take a look at the 2012 poll results for menthol juices on ECF ... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...63-reals-time-2012-ecf-juice-year-awards.html
