It is known that smoking can contribute to the development of cancer and vaping does not seem to hold the same risks, at least by research to date. Sometimes things just happen though, like never-smokers developing lung cancer. Not vaping or smoking would be healthiest, but if your choices are vape or smoke you're better off vaping.

Heavy drinking contributes to the chances of getting cancer of the throat and esophagus. My uncle died of it because of that very reason.

Also, I wholeheartedly agree with others above, that vaping is MUCH healthier for you than smoking. My COPD that was diagnosed years ago (after smoking for 30+ years)...is no longer evident on chest Xrays nor in other test results. My breathing overall has improved - better stamina doing strenuous things, my blood oxygen level has gone way up, no smoker's cough since February 2014 (1 month after getting totally off the smokes), etc.
