Ugh, in third grade my son was in Catholic school and had a (former) nun as his teacher. She was HATEFUL. Man, every time we "met" *I* wanted to punch her out. She hated my kid and drove him to suicidal planning (the school counselor called and told me my kid wanted to die, and that he would "stab himself with a pocket knife (he had one, in his bedroom) and then the counselor told me I "needed to be a tougher parent." His counselor (and I) had been trying to get him moved from that classroom all year. I was like, "Dood, you are telling me I should punish my kid for being driven to suicide by that witch? Did JESUS tell you to cut to that chase?"
Poor thing wound up in day treatment for two weeks, although the psychiatrist there was great and wrote the letter. It was good , because that ex NUN, myself, the kid or all three WOULD have wound up dead. I told the principal that they shouldn't allow that women around kids, maybe convicts would be better. She was a bit "handsy" too, only I told her if she laid a hand on ANY kid in her class, I would report her for child abuse.
Things can get pretty testy in Catholic schools, but really today? I mean, EVERYONE knows it's illegal right?
I'm young enough to really sort of wonder HOW and WHY parents ever thought that ANY adult other than the parent (if it's their way) should hit a kid. Teachers quite often wind up not liking kids so much. It just seems-- IDK, odd.
