Never realized there was such a huge vaping community. Recently tried a few different disposables which made me feel like vaping is a good option for me. Have a V2 kit and some carts on the way as well as some pre-filled Halo carts to try.

Would it be reasonable to set a ratio of 1 carto = 1/2 pack cigs ? I understand it would be different for everyone. Trying to set a low ratio until I get some hands on knowledge so I can figure out how many carts I should have around. Don't want to find myself running out to the store for a few packs to tide me over.

I'm sure I'll end up filling cartomizers at some point too. V2 or Halo blanks?

In my happy place
When I first started with my G6 and carts I was going through about 1 cart every 1.5 days on new carts and 1 day on refiled. I was a PAD smoker. All of the carts I ordered with my kit have gone bad and through researching on this forum I found Kanger E-Smart 808D-1 Clearomizer. They produce much more flavor and vapor and are much easier to refill.

I think this will be dependent on the nicotine strength of the eliquid

When I started I worked out that a normal carto was about the same as about 6-7 cigarettes (my first carto lasted about an hour because I was not familiar with vaping taking a little longer for nic delivery than smoking - when it did hit, it hit HARD)

The factory filled cartos seemed to last longer than the ones I filled for some reason

Be careful not to run them dry - if you get a burnt taste in a carto this means you ran it too dry and you will always get a burnt taste on the particular carto (here is a good clearo alternative to cartos that will fit on your 808 threaded batteries - Smokeless Image | The Best Electronic Cigarette this works very well and you can see the level of eliquid)

average carto will hold about .9 ml of eliquid

and to just let you know most of us will seem like we are chanting "back ups, back ups, back ups" because at this time vaping supplies are not as easy to get our hands on as cigarettes.

Congrats, good luck on your switch, and welcome to the ECF

Hi sc12, welcome to the ECF. Glad you found us...

As for how many cigarettes each carto or per mil of liquid it is really difficult to say. You have to remember that no matter what the nicotine level it states for the carto, your method of vaping will make the amount of nicotine absorbed into your body vary so much, it is next to impossible to say.

You can say 1 carto - 1/2 pack cigs if you like - but I would try not to worry too much about this number. I know you should worry more about vaping enough to keep the cravings at bay. The manufacturers of those pre-filled cartos are always overselling the packs of smokes equivalent anyway.

I never did the pre-filled carto method, I have always used refillable clearomizers and bought liquid. As you move forward with your vaping, it might be something to consider as it is cheaper and (in my case) much more convenient.

Again, welcome :vapor:

I've always equated a cart to about 3 to 5 cigarettes, but maybe I was just really hitting the poor things hard. I could go through 10 carts a day easily early on.

Nowadays I use a small tank.

I didn't find any of the carts I tried hard to refill, they all seemed to work just about the same way.

It's tough to equate a carto to a pack of cigs, mostly because of the different strength cartos available and how they need to be used. A carto with filler if vaped until dry will singe the filler (you'll be able to taste it in one puff - horrible flavor) so it needs to be refilled or "topped off" with extra liquid to keep the vape going good.

There's literally dozens of different types, styles, and size of cartos and toppers available, read around ECF New e-cigarette users Archives - ECF InfoZone and ask questions anytime you are overwhelmed, load of good people here willing to help....:vapor:

I went thru this computation back when I first started with a similar 808 ecig and cartos. I actually kept track of usage...charts and everything.

Anyway, this is all in terms of number of puffs...not nicotine content. (you really can't measure this in nicotine terms) In my case, since I was a chain smoker, becoming a chain vaper was a forgone conclusion. So I wanted to know how many puffs I would get out of a carto verses how many puffs I would get out of a cigarette. My conclusion was that a full carto produces about as many puffs as 15 cigarettes.

Remember that many cigarettes burn down in the ash tray, and I stomped many out before going into a store or something, so the carto is probably worth more than 15 actual smoked cigarettes. Also, looking at the flip side, without the guilt of smoking, I didn't try to control my vaping like I did with smoking. I the end, I was a 3+ pad smoker, but a 4-5 mil a day vaper.

Hi! :)

The "carto" question is tough to answer. At it's most simplistic, I would say 1 carto (of 16-18mg) is probably half a pack of medium-nicotine cigarettes.
On a small, low power device (cigarette look-a-like) vaping a whole cartomizer could take some time...and quite a few puffs.

Puffs and nicotine are not easily reconciled. (Can I say that?) A really good ecig can vapourise a cartomizer in 50+ puffs.
A small one might provide 200 puffs, but those 200 puffs won't provide the same nicotine as 20 cigarettes of 10 puffs.

It's very complicated, but not getting into the maths and the nicotine yield, best to have plenty of cartomisers ready to use.

next week, I am reviewing a "cig-a-like" type ecig. (KR808D-1). Curiously, the vendor is sending it to me as I questioned the whole "20 cigarettes/200 puffs" thing. The problem with most of these (apart from battery life) is the ability to get enough nicotine from them to match a decent smoke. It could be interesting.

I started on an 808. I vaped it non-stop, 30-40 times a day and still got nicotine cravings. I smoked 15 tobacco cigs a day.
