There has been studies that show that people who use nicotine via vaping never having smoked do not aquire the same level of addiction as those who smoked and aquired a nicotine addiction.
Also nicotine has been shown to help certain conditions.

Jerry if your Dr suggeste to you to try vaping consulting him/her would be best. What gear and liquid did your friend have that you liked?

Welcome and Congrats on realizing the inevitable & unavoidable God-Awful Consequences of treating Anxiety/Depression/Human-Condition with Alcohol.
That decision and Action in itself is a HUGE personal Victory. Kudos & Salute to Ya!

    I appreciate the support- I don't think I'm looking for a cure-all because I don't believe such a thing exists.
But perhaps a nice combination of the support I get here, soaking in some wisdom from different walks of life, and, well vaping!

    Huah!

Personally, vaping relaxes me....although I don't think I really ever had any issues with anxiety. In conjunction with vaping, another great way to cope with anxiety is getting yourself involved in an exercise routine. :thumb:
I'm with you brother, recently made exercising a more integral part of my day. Got my nutrition down and my brain loves it.
Joined me an over 40 basketball league (not even close to 40), but its fun as hell

Hi and welcome to the board. I strongly recommend those not addicted to nicotine stay away from it, it can be pretty miserable. But not all juice contains nicotine and, while long term effects studies are not completed, vaping being as new as it is, I would have to agree it has to be better for you than binge drinking. I think it has a calming effect on me, too. I tend to view the cigarette addiction as broader than merely nicotine. I personally find a psychological need for the hand-to-mouth pacifier effect as well. So I say vape on. If your friend has kit you like, ask him what it is and we'll get you pointed in the right direction.
You raise a valid point. Not looking to identify with a new chemical- but I also figured the oral fixation would be calming and the deep controlled breathing relaxing.

Hi and welcome. I'm new too, but I wanted to chime in as I have dealt with, and continue to deal with, some of the same issues you mention. First off, vaping won't "cure" anxiety issues. Meds don't either (but some can be helpful as you work through your recovery).

Many people have benefited from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Discuss it with your health care provider. I have dabbled with CBT to deal with my own issues and found it to be helpful. Try reading and working with "Mind over Mood". That book helped me understand what was going on in my brain. It's not a substitute for therapy, but it's a good introduction.

Disclaimers: I'm not a health care professional. Your mileage may vary. Alcohol is NOT your friend when it comes to addressing mental health issues. I'm a recovering alcoholic and getting off booze was the single best thing I've done for my health, mental and physical. Vape if it makes you happy, but don't think it's going to treat or cure anything.

There actually is one particular way that alcohol may be helpful; when I was suffering post-partum depression, I got all the way to suicidal before I got therapy and medication. At the time, I was only drinking about a 6pk a day, not terribly excessive, and when in the depths of suicidal feelings, drinking would actually ease it a little, push me back from the edge. My therapist said that, with that being the case, she wasn't going to call the drinking a big problem and urge me to stop it -- if it helped me stay alive, it was a coping strategy -- not the best one, certainly, but it did have a beneficial effect.

Unfortunately, 4 yrs later, it had turned into a 12pk a day, and drinking just made me cry and feel sorry for myself -- at which point, with my liver in such a state that hangovers lasted 3 or more days, I really had no choice, the drinking had to go. That was almost 23 yrs ago, and I still rank it as one of the best decisions I've ever made.
