I was thinking about the dangers and inconvenience of these lithium batteries, and this idea popped into my head...

I figured if I popped the power supply out of one of my old computers with variable voltage, I would be able to add a firing button and attach the leads to a 510 connector so I could use my favorite rba's on it.

Limitless vaping at my computer desk? Does anyone else feel that this would be amazing?!

I've got my ohm meter, and 4 years of training to use this equipment, I'm probably one of the best candidates to test this out! 1 year honors biology, 1 year honors chemistry, and 2 years technical application (building computers).

That means you will be adding inline protection such as a fuse, right?

Most come with one built in, but it will just depend on which power supply I get my hands on. Yes, I have safety on mind before vaping.

I do plan on making this thing impossible to short out, it will be fan cooled with my own variable voltage chip unless it already contains one.

I do know that the power supply in my current tower is variable, so I'm just assuming that the obsolete one is as well.

It might be workable, but I'd recommend digging into the modders' subforum for ideas before you start to avoid any surprises. Here's one that is in use - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...8g-oval-coil-1mm-hemp-wick-4.html#post9650157

I'm imagining how this rig would look, a power supply hard wired to a button and connector, plugged into the wall, and suddenly lithium batteries seem pretty safe and convenient to me!

Isn't it a bit overkill to run a several hundred watts PSU to do something a tiny little passthrough already does? Could get really annoying really fast to have a PSU with fans spinning sitting on ones desk just for the sake of getting a few puffs every now and then.

Edit:
For sake of vaping... I call it crazy.
For sake of hobby project. As long as you do it safely, I'm all for it :D

I have my own portable PV's and when I'm sitting at my desk and want THE PUFF every now and then, it would be so badass to have a setup that I can use any wattage or voltage that I desire.

It's not meant to be portable, it's not meant to leave my desk. Safety > Vaping.

It's just to get consistent hits out of whichever RDA I decide to attach, whenever I please.

Plus it opens up the possibility of using one of those 5 post RDA's that you could attach 8 coils to. Imagine that haha.

For this application you wouldn't need anything close to the 750-1500 watt'ers I put into gaming rigs, so no need for a fan-laden PSU. A small format 150-250w fanless design would work just as well. (As long as it has all the standard safety features, of course.)

Absolutely. But less likely to be found in someones "old computer". Not trying to win an argument lol... just saying. :toast:

:p I'm not sure why this thread makes my mind wander to thoughts of: Jeff Spicoli, Ferris Bueller, Inspector Gadget, and the phrase "Young Grasshopper"

Jeff Spicoli: Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.).

I'm 20 years old, and I've been smoking for nearly 1/4 of my life. I genuinely feel the effects of smoking primarily on my heart. My heart throbs and rattles and feels very unhealthy.:

Hmmm. A psu with variable voltage? All the ones I've seen have fixed voltage rails @ 3.3, 5 and 12V.

Personally I'm going to keep working on my flux capacitor powered mod.
