I would have to guess that it will be doubtful that the vaping community will come close to those using analogs, in my lifetime anyways. As far as switching friends or others over..I personally don't sit there and try to convince anybody about what they should be doing. The best way, IMO, is provide information, answer questions and let them borrow or try one of my spares. If they like it, they come back for more, if it's not for them, hey you tried! If anything they will be able to share their experience, that you provided, to somebody else that might be interested.

Yeah no telling when if ever we will reach the size of the tobacco population. Think of how many hundreds of years people have been using it. I do believe the vaping community is increasingly growing. More talk shows, media attention etc have been spreading them. vaping bars opening up and such. The biggest thing I thought was holding back the E-cig is lack of advertisement. You basically need to know someone that uses them to find out about them. So many smokers don't even know about e-cigs so they don't even think of switching. All it took was 1 person using it to get me interested and searching the web. That's how I found the ECF. Withing 2 days of having my kit I was done with analogs and have since converted a large number of people. I don't force it on them, I just give them information that they don't get to see or hear without the advertising. I have yet to have anyone actually just say no, not interested. Most are curious, I tell them how fast I quit, let them try delicious flavors, explain the decreased health issues, price difference etc. So far, my mother, my sister and her fiancé, and 6 of my friends have all switched to e cigs. They all wanted to quit smoking, but were stuck with it. Never hearing of the ecig or just hearing rumors about them that I cleared up. "They have Antifreeze in them! Cause more cancer than cigarettes!" etc etc..

Time will only tell though how fast the community will grow. Until major media involvement comes into play, not sure how soon that will begin. Might be a good or bad with Lorillard buying out Blu Cigs company. A big tobacco company may help with advertising and at least getting people aware of the existance of electronic cigarettes, but could also hurt the community. Too early to tell.

What Pittboss said.

Vaping is still a fringe activity, practiced by very few nicotine users overall and I expect it will stay that way for a very long time, or forever. Bear in mind that a big percentage of smokers are low-income and don't have computers or computer skills. Without which their only exposure will be to gas station disposables and the like. Which really isn't that enticing. Also the start-up costs involved are daunting for those on limited incomes - which, again, many smokers are.

I don't try switching friends and acquaintances to vaping; I offer them hits of whatever I'm vaping and happily answer questions. BUT many people like smoking, see no reason to switch, and resistance to change is a normal human reaction to new paradigms. A neighbor of mine has switched to primarily vaping because he liked mine; an employee is thinking about it; the few other smokers I know are like "meh, I'll keep smoking because it works and it's what I'm used to" and aren't at all interested in even trying vaping out.

Point #1: Most of us started smoking because we saw someone we looked up to do doing it. That could have been one of our parents, other family members, close friend, etc...

Now, we look for any alternative to the deadly addiction...

I guess that's my only point. I hope there is never a community of vapers to match the number of smokers unless every smoker turns vaper.

We introduced my mother in law to it this weekend. Her husband had already switched to the nicotine gum about 6 months ago but she's still been on the light analogs at least a pack a day. We left her a battery and several cartos, hopefully she's take to it.. if not, well.. we tried. She certainly liked not having to go out into the garage to smoke. =)

I got my mother an ego-t starter kit for mothers day. i gave it to her a few days ago. She went from smoking 1.5 packs a day to smoking 4-5 cigarettes a day and is VERY into getting off of analogs. All i did was offer to set her up and she said she would give it a shot and its working well.

I hope the community continues to grow but like any starting trend the market has tons of makes, models, connections and companies with no real central location....As it grows and grows it will eventually get margined down and become much easier for people to understand. I only see it growing!
