But yeah, if the right iron could mean the difference between succeeding and failing at repairing, obviously it's a good thing to have. I've barely ever done soldering before so I need the best chance I can get.

I know its been said before but a good iron is essential, and I would suggest you practice first before attempting the dna.

What's the temp control lidl iron like? I'm in the UK too.

Modding and vaping just burns money from experience and I avoid B&Ms like the plague sadly 90% are just crap, poor service and overpriced much the same as Maplin ;)

I know Gina & Monica from my dealings with them trying to get them to carry the Waidea Flask in the first place starting in early February. Had only one dealing with Kate and she was not as skilled at customer service as Gina or the boss Monica.

Never had a return but I put them through their paces about stocking the flask.

I've been dealing with Gina and Kate myself, Gina is on the ball and Kate is getting better. I just sent them a picture of our problem and Kate got a new one shipped out to us in about 2 weeks. Our replacement is sitting in Chicago and should be here with in a week. I asked them if they wanted us to return this unit with the faulty button, Kate and Gina both replied keep it. I just hope people don't take advantage of there great customer service.

Seriously mate, avoid the Lidl iron.
I probably sound like I work for Antex but the XS25 with a fine tip is perfect for modding.

Wow, yeah that's impressive that it's useful at only 6W

Out of interest, why not a portable gas one? I suppose batteries is cheaper in the long run if you use it a lot and keep going through cylinders.

They get too hot, if you go anywhere near a PCB with one of those and you'll kill it. Those gas irons are more for the likes of plumbers soldering pipes.

Been my experience as well and this is the first time I ever heard them tell someone to ship back a flask for repair & try to tell them they won't cover shipping above $15. Very surprised! Apparently things are a changing over there!

I have nothing to compare the Lidl iron to, so I'd take Anson's word that it's ....e! :)

I've only attempted one soldering job recently, which was just joining a couple of wires and that seemed to go OK. The iron did take a long time to warm up, and I only had to do the one quick job so didn't even see if it cooled down again a lot.

Yes I plan to practice a lot! And I'm still hoping that it might not even need soldering - it might just be a case of tightening or replacing a screw, I've been told (though I'm not yet sure if the wire is soldered to the screw or just wrapped or whatever.)

Happy for you! Just wish it didn't seem that I was the only person getting poor service from them!

Actually that's not true, dwcraig had the same experience.

I had far bigger problems than a faulty button, and I made a 20 minute video showing them in detail, but still got that response.

Of course, I may be being hasty in my condemnation - although the first proper email from them sucked, that is the only communication so far, they've not yet responded to my response. Maybe it'll all resolve itself in their follow-up! (I have no hope at all, of course - knowing how all the rest of this has gone thus far.)

It's getting towards the end of the day China time, so I'm guessing unless they respond in the next 10 minutes, I won't hear again from them today. Then of course it's the weekend, so probably that means waiting until Monday. Sigh.

Not sure I will be able to hold out until Monday, knowing there's a high chance they're just going to come back with the same crap. I'd quite possibly have taken the flask apart already if I had the right allen key.

Speaking of which, does anyone know the reference for the allen key I need to take the top off? I thought it was going to be the same size as the one I got with my Derringer RBA, but it's even smaller than that - I guess it's one of the smallest sizes available.

dwcraig, they really refused to replace your kangxin unless you shipped it back weeks ago?

I reported it's failure to them immediately and said they would get back to me which after 11 days I got back to them. That's when I got the email to send it ($15) back.
My project was almost finished by then, they can't have my Flask now( unless they agree to clone it, LOL)
I bought it with the idea of making a bottom feeder out of it but wasn't planning on putting in a board to.
In my case I really don't think I would have sent it back had they ask in a timely manner but I certainly would have liked them to replace it. There was no malice here on my part, the device was faulty.

That was right after Croak posted his experience with 3FVape on Nicole's Waidea Flask Review Comments. I wonder if people with Kangxins who read that review & his experience & started emailing them their buttons were falling in to get a new Waidea flask for a $2.00 upcharge & they changed their policy as a result?

Allen key... 1.3 mm is the size but last night while at work without said key I used a T5, just held it with my fingers. Seemed to be way easier to use than an "L" shaped key. Seemed to fit just as well too.

Thanks! Am in town and picked up this, has both T5 and the 1.3mm

I shudder to think how many cheap multi sets I have like this buried in the many recesses of my possessions, always bought when I need a certain tool or size that's inevitably missing from whatever sets I can find.

Oh well, only a fiver!

Sent by fondling my slab.

New emails from Kate - she wanted to know if I am using "Power Battery". Then another email 5 minutes later, explaining:

Kate said:
Sometime "weak battery" occurs when you use a normal 18650 battery for the mod.
When you fire the vapor flask, the mod discharges the battery using very high current.
Unfortunately, normal battery does not support that.

So you should use 18650 power battery that can support very high current (typically 20 times the capacity of the battery) when discharging.

Which tells me that they had not watched my video! But I think they have now, as the view count just went up.

I replied explaining I have tried both Samsung 25R and AW IMR, both 20A, and that the Waidea max amp is 16 and that many people I know are using Samsung 25R OK. I also sent her some screenshots from that video, showing the batteries on the charger before and after trying the VF.

I really hope they don't try and be difficult, and look at the cloned documentation that comes with the flask saying only VTC3, 4 and 5 and LG HE 2 are supported! They're all 30/35A, but we know that 20A is fine and that those instructions aren't relevant to this clone, only the original.

Of course, more than that, we know that this has nothing at all to do with the amp of the batteries, giving it often won't turn on at all, and when it does it will shut down even without me firing, etc etc.

Anyway let's see what happens. At least she's gone outside of the basic "just send the return details from the script" mode and is trying to assist.

And if they've actually watched my video now, that's also an improvement.

Just tested temperature mode on the Waidea clone - completely outperforms my genuine Evolv chip. Maybe the genuine Evolv chip I own is a proper dud but this clone chip is functioning exactly how it should.

Pretty impressed - Evolv should be afraid.

What differences are you seeing?

Cool! Can you elaborate? I've heard that it doesn't have refinement, or not as much, which is a good thing as long as the ambient temperature is fairly consistent.

But are you seeing more than that? Was your Evolv burning cotton and giving dry hits?

The genuine chip I own kicks out of temp mode and into regular mode quite a lot.
Resistance of the coil in the clone seems to be more stable too, another issue with my genuine chip is that temp protection seems to decrease power to the point where there's not enough heat to generate any sort of vapor.

Temp protection kicks in on the clone chip but the flask is still vapable and the cotton is still not burning.
