#My Vaping Stories#
Vaping changed my like in several ways. Rebuilding has given me a new hobby. I like trying new wick materials and vaping wires. I've tried Ceramic Wicks before, back when people were making 1/8" stick wicks from Aluminum Oxide (AO) blocks. I loved it, so I know I'll love the Vaporesso Sintered Ceramic cCell Heads!
I'm not big on coil builds like Twisted coils and Clapton coils, yet, but I enjoy experimenting. I recently made my first Vertical TC coil in a Phantom Tank's RBA Head, using 26g Ni200 and a 1/8" Drill bit, which is 3.175mm. I used the
Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators Coil Calculator to tell me how much wire I'd need for a 0.12Ω Coil, cut some extra for the two wires to be able to work with, because the Phantom RBA Head needs about 1 inch of spare wire on each end of a coil to be able to set the coil in the assembly.
I spaced the wraps, left the coil on the drill bit, and then bent the leads appropriately for a good fit into the RBA Head. Using the coil as a guide, I cut a strip of Blue Box Japanese Organic Cotton just a little wider than the coil and peeled the backing off of one side to make it extra fluffy and absorbent. By removing some of the padding that would have been between the cotton wraps, it took more cotton for the build, but I think it works a lot better. I carefully pulled away the one side to leave as much cotton on the other as I could. I made enough for 3 wraps. I cut one of them only long enough to make about a 3/4 wrap around the coil and wrapped it. This is because of the way this RBA Head is made with the air hole off center, so the wicking needs to be thicker on one side than the other.
I used the remainder of that one, but cut it just long enough to make one wrap around the other one, plus a quarter wrap, for extra thickness again on the side that needed it. I wrapped them with the fluffy side touching the coil and then wet them with a little e-juice to make them stick in place. The leads on this build leave the coil vertically up and down, so I did not have to bend one down over the cotton and then insulate that with more cotton. So I wrapped the last strip around the whole thing with the fluffy side facing out, wet it a little to help keep it in place and inserted it, assembled the RBA Head, and tightened the grub nuts on the leads. It worked like a Champ! My 0.12Ω goal came in at 0.17Ω. I made an extra wrap for just in case.
