Quick question, has anyone used a "herbal" vaporiser for tobacco alone? I was just wondering if they work. If they reach a sufficient temperature to release the nicotine content of loose tobacco, but without burning it. I'm referring to devices like this Vaporisers - Herb Vaporizers Online Shop Wondering if it could be a fallback if there is an e-cig ban in the UK... Cheers

Some pointers on tobacco selection:

Commercial cigarette tobacco is not the best because of its additives and relatively large amounts of ammonia. All tobacco initially has ammonia in it, the curing/fermentation process gets rid of it. Cigarette tobacco frequently contains burley tobacco which does not have the best taste, especially at higher temperatures, in my opinion. Cigarette tobacco however contains higher amount of nicotine than pipe/cigar tobaccos. Use premium fine cut rolling tobacco if you are going to use it. To get rid of ammonia expel the first few draws as ammonia vaporizes first and at a lower temperature.

Pipe/Cigar tobacco is generally of higher quality than cigarette tobacco and has been better prepared(cured/fermented for longer periods of time). However it often contains its own and added flavors which could irritate the throat / and cause coughing, and I'm guessing are not too healthy. The solution is the same as above, don't inhale the first few draws. This time however you can enjoy the flavors of the pipe tobacco and cigar tobacco in your mouth. To be honest I have not extensively vaped pipe and cigar tobaccos, this is something I wish to rectify in the near future. In addition to get the best flavors I have found its good to use short tubing/mouthpiece form the chamber, so that the flavors don't get deposited on the walls of the tubing.

Vaping is a very efficient use of tobbaco an you should be using a quarter to a half a cigs worth of tobacco every time you vape.

From what I have been told and have read vaporizing tobacco produces 5% or less of the toxins from smoking(1/20). To really know how safe tobacco vaping is (along with e-cig vaping) we will have to wait for more scientific studies that account for all factors.

I've been playing around a bit with vaporizing tobacco and here's what I found. I started with the V-tower (not the extreme version with the bag but the cheaper one), and it isn't the best for shisha or anything really wet (like tobacco mixed with glycerin). It is an upright so the moisture from the shisha can drip down into the heating unit. I tried putting some cartridge stuffing underneath to catch the drips, but still had a problem. The shisha I used was pretty wet, though. I found vaping pipe tobacco to be safe in the unit but unexciting in flavor and without much vapor (but that's just a matter of taste). The iolite can handle shisha since the shisha can't get into the heating unit. I don't know about some of the other models, but some of them aren't upright so maybe the drip issue wouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure but I think the silver surfer isn't an upright model, so it might work for wet tobacco.
