Hey everyone,

I just received a new vaporking in the mail yesterday, and I absofrigginlutely love the thing!! I am only having one issue, and that is that if I take a drag thats over about 5-6 seconds in length the rim of the carto burns my lips.. :-x

I am not puffing constantly, over and over. I am giving it a chance to cool down, in fact I can pick it up for the first time in hours or the first puff of the day and it will get seriously hot. Does it on both the battery and the passthrough. Does it on multiple types of carts. Am I doing something wrong? My typical draw style is a quick primer puff and then a nice long draw like I do on my 510. But I cant even get a full draw because it starts burning my face off, LOL perhaps a small exaggeration there, but it does sting, it almost feels like my lip gets shocked. Any input is appreciated.

I just went from a 510 to a V4L (today) and I had the same issue, but the only thing I can think of (and mind you I am new too) is that we are vaping too hard/too quick. I would love for someone more experienced to chime in here, esp. if I am wrong. After say the 4th time doing this today I started with a shorter puff and even having to do that a few times back to back kept me from not having the burning lip issue.

I imagine part of it is because you don't have a mouthpiece like on a 510, 901, etc., so it is going to be warmer than you're used to. I started out with a VK and it is still my main PV, so I probably have just adapted the way I puff on it - I rarely notice any excessive heat. I have read that some folks pop off the plastic cap and use an empty 901 cartridge as a mouthpiece (it will slip into the carto).

Some other folks, particularly those who constantly drip or top off the carto, remove the plastic cap and o-ring, and put one of the carto condoms on the end, with a hole punched in it. This would make it cooler and much easier to top off, but it may feel uncomfortably large (that was my experience when I tried it).

for a quick fix til someone who uses the KR8 more than I do can chime in..punch a hole in the end of one of your carto condoms..slip that over your carto and vape through that..kinda gives you a cushy insulation from the heat of the carto..

that and take your question over to the V4L forum..the vapor king regulars should jump all over it with helpful tips and tricks

This probably isn't the issue as you've run into this with several cartos, but sometimes the tube inside the carto isn't centered, which puts the atomizer wire closer to the side of the casing. If you look through the hole and it is obscured, that is the indication. They're easily centered by popping the top and pushing the batting around a bit.

In fact there are several reports on this forum alone where people encountered exactly this problem. (I'm one of them.)

So far, no really useful solution has been proposed, but what may help is:
- Make sure the carto is wet, but not too wet. It should not quite look as wet a 510 cart, according to several instructions or Youtube vids. Too much liquid makes it even hotter.
- Make sure the coil is properly centered.
- Line up, if you can, the little holes in the battery with the cut-out bits in the cartomizer.
- Let it cool down a lot and long.

If it were not for that problem and the burned filling issue, I'd actually consider at least partially swapping my 510 for a KR8, the taste is great.

Those are all excellent ideas. I have burnt my mouth a bit in the past. I always check to make sure coil is in the center. This makes a big difference. If you get a burnt taste, trash the cart, as the batting is burnt and you do not want to inhale burnt crap.

I think the way you vape has alot to do with it.

Depending on how many air vent holes are in your atty (one to 4 on most), the amount of draw differs from one brand to the other.

For example, on my Prodigy which is 5V, I need to take small short drags, where on the 808, I have to suck my lungs off.

It's not like puffing a analog ciggie
Takes a bit of practice for each type of atty.

I have never had my lips burned by my 808 (not VK), but when I switched from a 510 I was definitely caught off guard. The vapor is thicker, hotter and so much more flavorful than the 510. At first I didn't know if I liked it, but now, my 510 has sat unused for months.

Remember to take long, slow drags. I read "Just enough to activate the switch", and that's pretty much what I do. I can fill my mouth drawing easily by the time the cutoff hits.

Thanks for the tips everyone!! I tried the hole in the carto condom thing but it does feel a bit too bulky and slippery in my mouth, so thats a no go. I popped the caps off and made sure the wires were centered and just to get a feel for the construction when I first got them.. I find I do have to suck a bit hard for it to activate so maybe Im sucking too hard.. Im coming off a manual 510 so Im sure its just user error.. getting used to the whole auto battery thing.. thanks for getting my back though Steve, I am absolutely THRILLED with everything I got, and Im loving the extra goodies you guys packed in! Made my day when I opened it up! LOL I will be making another order very very soon lol. :)

Exactly, It works sweet to use the condum with a little hole and toss the caps. Makes refilling a 2 sec. deal. I can even refill while driving it's so easy. Plus no heat to my mouth.

Yeah I used the condom after I watched Doctor Vapor's vids on cartos.. the only problem Im having with that is that its too big in my mouth.. it just feels weird. Im the type of person where if something feels weird I cant do it.. it drives me crazy, call it OCD. Also I was finding when I took off the condom a ton of either juice or condensation was getting under the condom and making the carto all gooey and wet and gross. Its no big deal for me to refill em by popping off the caps so I just went back to them.. I have been taking shorter drags and had good luck so far not getting burnt, but I miss being able to take that nice sloooow looong drag and exhale a plume of vapor lol. I have heard a lot to the contrary, but I am getting VERY nice vapor on my VK. :)

New cartomizer user here, puffing away on a 5V Prodigy with an 801 to cartomizer adapter from Nhaler.

    Wow, HOT at first!

I took the end cap and rubber ring out and replaced them with a 901 cart which I had trimmed down a bit.

Works great, no hot lips, no juice in mouth, and it has a familiar feel to it. I just pop the tip off (no tool required) and drip 6-10 drops in whenever the carto runs low. Easiest vaping yet!
