Yes, with a clean coil and typical wicking I can go on and on chain vaping (a mouth drawn, inhale and nasal exhale while drawing the next mouthful)my r91s
9 wrap 28 awg spaced coil 3mm ID, rayon wick, 420 degrees, 12 watts
snip

Went to 9 wraps and it's making a WORLD of difference! You the man jazzvaper, thank you very much. Thanks for the congrats Jbryant as well.

Rocking temp control at 40 watts now and it's hitting much harder (hotter as well) and maintaining temp wayyyy better. :toast:

sigh

Just placed an order for one of the Scratch & Dent rDNA 40s. People seem to have had good success with them thus far so *fingers crossed* Also threw in a pack of the nickel coils for the Subtank. Pretty excited to try out TP. I was originally toying with getting a higher watt box but I really don't think I need more than 40W. Most of my vaping is done in between 20-35W and I don't really care about clouds I'm in it for the flavor. I do have an SX Mini as well so if I ever do want a little more oomph I have it. Now the waiting begins...

Just got an email on this - anyone bite?

Vape Shield

A hydrophobic layer approximately 2 angstroms thick, or 1/2000th the thickness of a human hair, is applied to the entirety of your device inside and out. This extremely water-repellent carbon polymer is applied in a controlled vacuum environment via an electrical plasma. The result is a shield completely invisible and undetectable through touch. Vape Shield is only noticeable in the event of an accidental spill or liquid submersion. When water or other liquids come into contact with your device Vape Shield actively repels the liquid from any coated surface, protecting the sensitive internal circuitry. Vape Shield from Vapor Shark: because a shark shouldn’t be afraid to get wet!

Only $34 (plus two way shipping I guess)!

Anyone else get COMPLETELY different resistances when changing between temp control and regulated?

When in regulated, my ohms are reading 0.35. When in temp control, my ohms are reading 0.13.

With temp off my resistance doubles. Returns to correct resistance when I turn it back on.

Hey all rDNA owners! I placed an order for the rDNA 40 with the larger screen on 2/28 at which time it said "Please allow 30 business days for all rDNA orders." There was one day this week or the previous week that it changed to only 5 business days for rDNA orders but then the next day it went back up to 15 business days, the same as it says today on their website....

anyways I wanted to share that my order shipped 9 business days after I placed it, it shipped yesterday 3/12 and it's arriving tomorrow!!! Not that excited to wrap Ni200 from what I've read here on ECF... Is it really going to allow for a more 'tuneable' vape? I have a Sig100W Plus and the VW works just fine for me... what do rDNA owners usually use with RDAs? Kanthal or Ni200?

last question: if Ni200 is "non-resistance" wire then how many wraps do I do? just play around with it and find out what I like or are there dangers/risks involved with having too few or too many wraps of Nickel wire?

It's more "tuneable" in the sense that you have two modes to select from (Regulated and Temp Control). Temp Control simply allows you to vape at different temperatures. Benefits include potential increase in flavor, and if your temp is low enough ... no dry hits or burned cotton. In the future a potential benefit *might* be that you can prevent any unwanted byproducts from vaporizing ejuice at unregulated temps. (Studies are under way)

Depending on the gauge of nickle you use, you are probably looking at 7-15 wraps per coil. There aren't really any dangers regarding wraps. You might have to play around and see how many wraps performs best for you. But the chip is going to protect you from any shorts or dangers like that. Make sure the atties you use in temperature control mode are at room temp before using them and it's generally recommended that you don't build your atty while on the rDNA (to ensure proper reading of the resistance). People seem to have the best luck using spaces coils and connecting the coil legs directly to the post screws,

You can find a great wrap/resistance calculator HERE. (They have a mobile app as well)

Also remember to use nickel wire only in temp controlled mode.

Thank you so much for the info gentlemen! I'm so excited to play with the new toy! Tc1 thanks for the info again, you probably just saved me at least 4 hours scouring the forums for answers and 4 hours struggling with the Nickel wire. I've got 26 gauge Ni200 here ready to go, I'll let you know how it goes gents

Congrats!!!

VS is conservative with their shipping estimates after tons of complaints not meeting ship dates. I ordered with a 15 day wait but it shipped in less than 3 days and I had it in 7 days from ordering back in late Nov. It's been perfect with no glitches at all.

As tc1 said, spaced coils is the way to go with ni200. 26g might be a bit too thick. Good for handling but you'll need a big coil to get above .10Ω. I use 28g 10 wraps 3mm ID for around .13Ω.

I found 420°F was too low after less than a tank. Then it wouldn't produce much vapor. I'm up to 450°F and it's much better. I'm more careful not to run the wick completely dry now but I haven't burnt a wick yet.

If I didn't have 4 DNA40 boards coming from the co-op, I would've ordered another VS rDNA40 or 2. I do have 2 DNA30's that are also awesome.

When in regulated, my ohms are reading 0.35. When in temp control, my ohms are reading 0.13.

In TP mode, you will only see the resistance of the coil while it is at rest. This will not change. In wattage mode, you will see the actual current coil resistance while firing and when you let go of the fire button, it will show you the last resistance (when you let go). Just clicking the button 5 times to lock the device will raise my coil from 0.13 to 0.17 if the TP mode is off. In TP mode, my coil shows a constant 0.13 because that is the number needed for the DNA board to calculate the temperature.

how 'spaced' are you guys referring to? I use a Coil Master so the wraps are always touching but I can easily space them out.... Are we talking spaced 1 wrap apart (if that makes sense) or more like 2-3 wraps apart? I'll search for a picture in this thread unless someone has a pic they wanna post... I found some examples thanks guys!

Are rDNA users all over the map between RTA and RDA? or is there one that is more prominent than the other? I started with KF4s but after building on mutations I've bought 4 more RDAs just because I have more room to build, I'm usually vaping in my room studyin anyways so the dripping doesn't bother me.

I got the 26g bc I heard how malleable Ni200 is, I'll order some 28g today. Thanks for the wrap setup details KTM!
