That thing is huge. With a linear regulator it isnt going to be very kind if you plan to run on batteries.

Better option:
1PCS LM2596 DC Step-Down Adjustable Converter Power Module | eBay

These are pretty popular here and they can take a beating. The switching regulator will be better for batteries, but these are the ultimate passthough board. I've run mine at 18 watts (on accident) with a 1.5ohm carto for most of a day, and I typically ran 1.5 ohm dual coils at 12-14 watts before switching to high resistance single coils.

The one that you linked is feedback regulated so it should deliver the set voltage and compensate for dropout.

I did not see a price on that regulator, only a link to purchase as a kit. If you already have one then I'd go for it. If you don't have it already, then it's hard to argue $1.70 for the LM2596. You can't even buy the bare chip for that price.
