Hi all,

Ok, so I have an ego ce5 1100 mha and at the moment I am quite liking it, but after reading the comments on here about how you can upgrade to a twist or other battery packs and mess with the voltage it has me intrigued.

Apart from problems getting the battery charged up every now because juice has leaked onto the battery (thank you to all who helped me with this btw) and the juice lasting me only a day I seem to be enjoying it. But…… I am still a little confused over a few things.

As I don’t sit at my desk vaping all day I would have thought that the 1.6ml tube bit where you fill your juice up with would last a lot longer but it seems to evaporate within (this is a guess) 30 - 40 vapes… is this about right? If not what can I do to make this last longer. I have seen posts about cutting the wick but I would have thought that this would mess with the TH and Vaper?

Also how do you know when the coil bit… needs changing, does it just burn out as I don’t have any more and I don’t want to be left short going back to analogs.

Thanks for your help.

Mick

Hi Mick
With top coil clearomizers with long wicks they do absorb the liquid up and this is especially noticeable with small clearos. I use bottom coil Nanos that hold about 1 ml of liquid. I fill one 3 to 4 times a day. Definitely get replacement coils. You never know when they might go. Most of the time with coils I just experience a drop in performance with less taste and less vapor. You can try to clean them but sometimes it's just better to replace them.

As far as VV batts I say go for it.

If Kanger clearomizers are available for you I'd opt for a Kanger T3, a Kanger EVOD or a Kanger Pro Tank.

If you want to upgrade your battery a Vision Spinner 1300 Mah would be a decent upgrade for you. Easy to see the voltage markings
above the bottom spin cap on these. They range 3.3 to 4.8 volts....which gives you plenty of options on different types of clearomizers/cartomizers to use on it.

Evod doesn't hold much though but it hits well. The T3 + Pro Tank will hold quite a bit.

VV batteries are a big improvement, just by tweeking the voltage you can easily find that sweet spot with different juices. For example I vape blackcurrant at 3.7 volts and strawberry at 4.2 volts (using an ego VV passthrough).
I started with a ce5 and wasn't that impressed, until I switched to a Nova tank. Much better flavour, vapour and throat hit. But that's just my personal preference :D

---First and foremost, even though I have a vv/vw device, I still use my ego-k 1100mag batteries...that being said about 3 weeks into vaping I bought a vamo v2, it came with 2 batteries and a charger, I love it and has completely open the door for me on the Wide World of Vaping! I've learned more about all the "electrical" stuff you read about(ohms, volts, watts, etc.) getting a vamo and learning on my own what the different settings and stuff can do compared to reading some thread or article(even though I read about a million different ones up to this point lol)....I learned a lot but didn't really "catch it" until I cold see what was REALLY going on with all the settings.....some people get ego twist/spinner, since it is vv but not vw. For example, I'll use the vamo since that is what I'm experienced with...it is a "vv/vw" device, twist/spinner is just vv...vamo is 3.0-6.0 volts, where as the twist-spinner is 3.0-4.7 (not sure if that is correct but I now it doesn't go higher than 4.7)....BUT the vamo is also variable wattage, and goes from 3-15 watts, and when in variable wattage mode, it automatically adjusts the volts for you depending on what ohms your tank/carto/clearo is(I'm not gonna get into all that, if you want to just PM me and I'll go into more detail)...and last but not least for about $10-$20 you can get a vv/vw device instead of the ego style spinner/twist. Which I already had 2 1100mah ego-k batteries which came with my starter kit, and didn't want to get another, that's why I got the vamo.

---IMHO I would get a vision vivi nova, or as mentioned above a kanger protank, though I personally have never had much luck with bottom coil devices(but have never tried a protank, just kanger T3)....about my 2nd-3rd week of vaping I got tired of refilling and I wanted to try different delivery systems so I picked up my first carto and tank (boge 2.0ohm cartomizer and an Artemis tank)....since then I haven't turned back, I'll vape cartos for life! You can't beat the flavor! (Throat hit is subjective, it all comes down to vg/pg mix, type of flavor, nicotine content, delivery system-all have an impact on throat hit and vapor production)

Also how do you know when the coil bit… needs changing, does it just burn out as I don’t have any more and I don’t want to be left short going back to analogs.

----I would buy another clearomizer or 2 until you get another tank or something just in case the one you are using fails, and you might want to have a different flavor to switch to ;-) ....

Thanks for your help.

Mick

Well I hope I didn't confuse you and helped you more than hurt you(which some posts happen to do)....if you have any questions feel free to PM me and I'll direct you the best I can, as I'm sure many other people on here, who have been vaping WWaaaayyyyy longer than I have, will help you as well! (Man I love this forum for that reason, the kindness and hospitality...made me really feel welcome...some forums out there didn't!)

Vape on!

Bottom coil all the way. The protank is wonderful. I have three hanging around usually. if you really want to go variable, you should check out mod's with variable wattage too. If changing out heads seems like a pain to you, then you might struggle a bit with variable voltage. So many tanks and attys get blamed for dry or burnt hits when its really a vv problem.

As Leal said, top coil clearos do tend to go through juice pretty darn quick and 30-40 vapes does not sound unreasonable for a 1.6ml CE5. There are a lot of other factors that can affect the number of hits you get from a particular juice in any given device eg. PG/VG ratio, length of inhale, wattage, etc.

If you think about it, 30-40 puffs would be roughly equivalent to 3-4 cigarettes if your vaping habits were the same as your smoking habits used to be. If you were a pack a day smoker, you'd be getting through anywhere from 6.4ml to 10.7ml of e-liquid a day. That would put you above average in terms of consumption, and shows how inefficient top coil clearos are.

Out of curiosity, exactly how much did you smoke and what strength is the e-liquid you're using?

There are some good suggestions for alternative products in the posts above. The Kanger products (specifically the E-vod and the Protank) have been getting very good reviews lately.

I agree with Red about the Spinner. I have the eGo Twist and I can't read the voltage setting on the dial worth a spit! Even with my bifocals. (I'm not old! I'm steeping! :D)
I'd recommend getting a Kanger ProTank for your Ego. It holds more juice, tastes better than ce4/ce5 style clearomisers and you can buy replacements coil heads that are super easy to replace.

+1000 on the ProTank recommendations!

Remember, the first time you fill, the wick must absorb a certain amount of liquid. After that, topping off should not take as much.

I think I have been through about every clearomizer there is! I really like the EVOD and other tank style and/or wickless ones the best. I am just now realizing that when I thought I was a "sipper" (taking small vapes instead of long draws) with vaping, I really was only taking smaller draws because I didn't like the TH or the flavor of the juice and could only handle small draws. Take away the long top wick (and I think if you cut the wick they don't draw properly so I don't suggest that, but YMMV) and go to a tank with a bottom coil and I am taking HUGE draws on my EVOD filled with Mt. Baker Vapor Cotton Candy! I've topped it off once already and I'm getting ready to do it again! Taste is so much better...for ME!

Are there any side affects to inhaling whatever the wick is made of?

None that I have found. Lots of this or that on the silica stuff...but most honest evidence says that none are bad. Silica gums up. Cotton burns. Ss mesh gets gunky. Etc. For non rba just stick with the supplied silica for my taste. Its fiber glass...so if you arent crusgung it or grinding it into a powder before you inhale its fine.
