O.K. I've been smoking for 40 years and although I would like to continue my doctor and practically everyone else wants me to quit (except me of course.) A little help here - first I smoke a pack a day or Marlboro Special Blend 100's in the gold box - so I guess I want something with a similar taste? I found a nice kit over on Vaporgirl site (I think I navigated here from there) and they have something called and 808 kit.

Input from pro's would be great I would like my first experience to be a pleasant one (easier to stay on the straight and narrow that way). So any input from long time smokers would be helpful.
Thank you
Chere

for taste, you wont find anything close to a cigarette and I dont know why you would. over time, your taste for e liquid will change. I was a menthol smoker but I cant even vape menthol. as for a starter kit, I would recommend the vivi twist kit. comes with 2 1000 mah twist, a charger, wall adapter, carrying case, a vivi nova, and a bottle of juice for 75. saves you the trouble of buying everything separate.

Some people just really like the taste of a real cigarette. Friend of mine at work is on a mission to find a juice that can come close.

As for mods... 2 eGo C twist batteries @ 650mah, 1 eGo battery charger, 1 Vision Vivi Nova v2.5 tank system and 20 bottles of every single flavor you think you might like (including tabacco blends). If you are anything like me and people I have got to switch to vaping, every new flavor will be an OMG moment. :)

You may not want to start by looking for 'bacco flavors as you'll probably get easily discouraged. Most Vapers will tell you that it's hard to get the same flavor, and impossible to get the flavor of x brand of smokes. It may end up making you frustrated and going back to the ole stinky stix.

There are decent replacas out there but they aren't going to be anywerhe near the same as the 1000s of fla..er chemicals chemicals that you get from smoking
I've used.. Vanilla, Cola, and ecto plasm (Lemon-lime flavor) I've taste tested a few 'baccy flavors and they dont' seem to do it for me 1 bit.

Good luck :) The only thing that really matters is finding what works for YOU :)

The best advise I was given when I first started was not to try to make vaping the same experience as smoking because its not, its a different experience. Make vaping its own experience :) If you give it a chance it can be an even better experience then smoking, but you HAVE to keep an open mind and be patient with yourself and give yourself time to find what works best for you :)

You will not find a juice that is the same or even very close to to taste of your old cigarettes. I know its hard to understand right now but in the end you won't want the same ;) Experiment, try different flavors, and you may be surprised what flavors you find yourself liking.

If you want your first ecig to be cigarette size then an 808 model will accomplish that for you. Many have started with an 808 and were happy with it when they started. Please do understand that the battery life wont last long and you will be recharging your batteries often. That ends up being a deal breaker for a lot of people and in a few weeks they do end up purchasing a model with longer battery life BUT as a beginner you need to start with what makes you comfortable and if cig size does that, then by all means use it. I started with a cig size 510 Joye model and I dont reqret that decision for a moment because I quit smoking with that model, but two months later I did upgrade to a model with longer battery life because I didn't want to deal with having to recharge batteries every two hours. Now-a-days I recommend Ego Twist 650 mah batteries with a couple attys and some clearomizers for beginners but there is no one model that a beginner has to start with to quit smoking.

Good luck and dont be afriad to come back and ask any questions you may find that you have. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here that can help answer any questions you may have :vapor:

Hi agedog:

I smoked cigs for more than 40 years. You can do this! Just think, instead of smoking stinky tobacco you can smoke candy, fruit, chocolate, coffee...there's all kinds of crazy flavors out there, including some really good tobacco, without the bad chemicals. I smoked Kools for so long, now the menthol vape doesn't interest me at all. Good luck, try some different stuff, and think positive. I haven't had a cig since August 23rd. That's not a long time, but for me, it's just crazy.

If you put "Marlboro Gold" in the search box, you may get a few hits and suggestions on a similar e-liquid. I was able to find a liquid I liked that was fairly similiar to my brand that way.

An 808 (mini) is very popular. I don't know anything about your lifestyle or smoking habits (do you have access to a charger, etc.) just keep in mind that you get approximately 1 hour per 100 mah of continuous vaping before the battery needs to be recharged. If you want to step up to a larger size battery, some of the ego batteries are approx 650 mah, 750 mah. Bigger but longer battery life.

Thank you for the great input. Thinking about flavors. I think I will go with a peppermin. I'm going to start out with nicotine for a few weeks I don't think it would do me much good to just abruptly stop smoking as I know I am addicted to nicotine. So it makes sense to stop smoking and switch to E-Cigs with nicotine to start out.. Does that make sense to you or am I way off?

I agree with you. Get used to e-cigs or vaporizors first then cut down the nicotine little by little. Juices comes in different nicotine strengths. 12mg is like a light cig and 18 is more like a normal cig to me. They make higher strengths too. When I made the switch I was a one PAD smoker and only had 12mg which wasn't enough. I prefer 18mg for in the mornings and when I can't chain vape all day and 12mg for when I can. You can mix different strengths to cut down the nicotine very gradually not abruptly. Some people recommend having an extra bottle of even higher nicotine for the times you may want to grab a real cig.

The 808 devices are good for being very small and cig like but the batteries have a set voltage and don't hold a charge for very long. I started with an 808 and moved onto an ego twist and a kanger t2 clearomizer within a week or two.

I started with a peppermint/menthol to replace menthols but quickly moved on to everything else. I don't understand how anyone would want a tobacco flavored juice with all the options out there. Opinions may vary.

Your main focus for the time being is to get off of the cigarettes. Worry about weaning off the nicotine in the e-juice later down the road.

Grandmato5 gave you the most helpful advice anyone could. kudos to her. You can quit cigarettes with vapor. You will quit if you set in your mind that you want to quit and not just need to quit. Keywords: motivation and desire.

30+ smoker here. Had tried gum, patches, Wellbutrin, hypnosis over the years, none helped me quit. My mother died in April of cancer, within 2 weeks of diagnosis, and she didn't suffer, bless her soul. Her death got me thinking about my own mortality. Just happened to see a disposable cigarette in the convenience store, and bought one to try out.

Wasn't bad, but I knew there must be better ones. Googled e-cigarettes and found this wonderful website. Did some research, found a great company, and orderd a nice starters kit from Smokeless Image. Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Smokeless Image Electronic Cigarettes - The Future is in your hands

Started vaping right away and liked it. I allowed myself a few real cigarettes a day the first week, but I could tell I wasn't enjoying them as much as I used to. When my last pack was finished, so was I.

About 3 weeks into vaping I was growing weary of the constant battery changes with the cig look-a-likes. I moved up to a couple of the big battery mods from Altsmoke. A BB and Silver Bullet. I got 9 hours battery time with the BB and over a day with the SB.
AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Electronic Cigarette Starter Kits | The Yeti, Joye eGo, eGo Dual Coil Cartomizer, Silver Bullet, BB, Omega, Alpha

If you must start out with something that looks like a cigarette, do that, whatever gets you off of the stinkies. But most of us find out sooner or later that much better performance comes from bigger batteries.

Good luck, dude. You can do this.

I started with 900mah egos and skipped the frustration of charging cig sized batteries. Also didnt try to find tobacco flavors. There is a learning curve with vaping but it works if you give yourself a few days to get used to it. Biggest thing is to commit to it. Even if you start with cig sized and tobacco flavored ecigs chances are you will want something better very soon and most ego kits are cheaper than decent cig sized kits so you might as well get going right from the start to yive yourself the best chances to succeed.

I'm trying to quit the cigarettes too. I've been searching around here for a few weeks and just broke down finally settled on starter gear. I went with the ego twist as it offers some flexibility in what the e-cig does. I can adjust how much vapor is produced with this one till I find my "sweet spot" - also - I went with the 1100 mah as battery life is hecka important to me.

That's AWESOME! It's a hella long time!!! I spent 150 a month on chantex and could only get down to about 5 cigarettes a day. My dad smokes Kools. He tried to be all "dad" like when he found out I was smoking by being "smoke one of these bioycch" and I was all "Ok - I'll never turn down a free smoke" - and to this day - I don't smoke menthals...but ya know ...in a pinch...beggers can't be choosy.

I too would like to get imput. I also smoked for many years and also had a lobectomy and chemo. I still went back to smoking, much to my embarassment. I am about eleven days into no reg cigs. I previously smoked American Spirit brand. Thank you for your post, Chere!

Deanie

wow - american spirits are special. I always loved when someone had them around. I can't give yoiu adivice so much as feeling your pain. I'm still waiting on my set up - I couldn't even begin to suggest what might taste like the american spirits...

I was a 30 year smoker.. You can do it! Yes there are "reds" flavors that come close. I recommend getting something with a BIG battery because I was frustrated with short battery life & low vapor output.

I agree - the big battery life seems to be key for so many reasons... It's why I went with the 11000 for my first bit of gear.

Thank you for the great input. Thinking about flavors. I think I will go with a peppermin. No! you absolutely want to get juice with nic in it if you are trying to quit smoking! I just bought all my "starter stuff" and I bough several types of juice at varrying nic levels - from med to high as I don't think at a 2PAD smoker I should start out less than - but I'm totally planning on experimenting with what works best for me at which times of day.

FWIW even at high nic levels - from what I understand - if you vap only - you start to see the health benifits of quitting smoking - ie - your lungs start to clear up (which sucks but is necessary) - you get your smell back -you get your taste back... then you can wean yourself off the nic...

In the end - there are LOTS of us that are trying this to quit smoking cigarettes. We all succeed with each other. I've already as a noob found myself so motivated by other people's success stories. It's like a chain that we all get to be a piece of. Welcome to the forum and welcome to your support system. :D

also - I recently watched both my grandparents die. My grandmother - the one I was closest too was a smoker. In fact we bonded many of my adult years - watching Food Network or making dinner and smoking cigarettes. I watched the slow for years progression of them trying to move her to the patch and it ONLY being successful when she was too ill to actually hold a cigarette in her hands. I watched her die. (It was not lung cancer btw -it was heart issues) - but still watching the one person I love the most die, and the whole time she was begging me for a smoke...it well...changed my outlook on the whole thing... .

I agree - do what you need to do to make the switch. Then decide that you're getting off the cigarettes and make it so. Vaping is the easiest way I've seen to make it happen. I can't wait to post when I've been a week cigarette free!!!

Good luck to you sir! As I said -you've come here and from what I've seen, this community builds and thrives on people helping each other. The vets help the noobs and everyone celebrates when peeps meet their goals. And when someone else meets their goals, you work harder - and when you fall, there are 100000000000 million people to pick you up and put you back where you want to be.

welcome home sir! I hope you enjoy it here! :)

First Welcome to ECF. You've come to the right place for help. This is one of the kits I started with.
KGO kit1100mAh by SLB
No one person can tell you what flavor of juice you will be happy with. It's a lot of trial and error. I suggest going to a juice vendor and buying sample packs. I'll try and include a link to one that I've been pleased with but remember there are thousands of opinions on everything.
ECBlend E-Liquids - Something Better
And finally good luck. Don't worry about if you smoke everynow and then. The important thing is to try. "Don't count the ones you smoke. Count the ones you didn't" Advice I received from the good folks here at ECF.

All good advice given here.

Getting Juice with Nicotine.

Start out buying juice that has a 18 mg nicotine content. You can always order more juice with more or less with your next juice order once you find out how this strength works out for you.

Juice flavors are extremely subjective, what one person will like the next will hate it. That's why buying sample sizes or trial sizes is best at first. It's cheaper and you don't waste money on a lot of juice you may not like.

Finding a couple of good juice flavors is just as important if not more than getting the right starting hardware.

_____________________

The following e-juice vendors offer sample packs. Don't be afraid to include something other than tobacco or menthol flavors, you might be surprised when you like a fruit, coffee, or candy flavor. You don't need to order from here, but they make high quality organic juice that I buy from regularly.

Vaperite | E Liquid Flavors and Organic E Cigarette Liquid

Organically Flavored E-liquid | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

Heating Coil Attachments - things that will make your vapor.

This is a link to a small tutorial I made for another new vapor.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartomizers/343294-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-lol.html#post7562212

Once you settle on what hardware to start with, I'd recommend getting a few of these attachments to test new sample flavors in. ce3s. They are small and don't hold much juice, but that's the idea. You won't need much juice to know if you like it or not. Plus, these are cheap and re-usable. Just empty any unused juice, rinse it out, and refill with another flavor.

ce2.jpgce2-1.jpg

Backup Batteries

You can't vape if you don't have juice or a charged-up battery. We've all discovered at some point that all of our batteries are either spent or our main battery breaks down. Don't allow this to happen and then be tempted to buy cigarettes.

Famous saying from experienced vapors: "Have backups for your backups, and backups for those backups." That might be taking it a little too far, but always have a minimum of 3 batteries on hand no matter what device you choose.
