Very newbie question, most likely...

Hi, folks! I'm extremely new to vaping (less than a month now). Smoked for several years, quit, started back up and quickly decided to dive into the vaping realm to save money (and personal hygiene :p). Backstory aside, I've been having a little bit of trouble, primarily with e-juice.

As I stated before, I'm very new to this, so excuse me if this has been answered a million times. I just haven't found any explanations that are "newbie friendly." Lots of technical terms thrown around that have admittedly left me more confused than I was before reading.

So, after doing some brief reading, I found that juices with 12mg nicotine are in my comfort zone because I was pretty mild in terms of smoking. I know that most juices are composed of a varying VG/PG mixture. Seeing as how I'm sensitive to PG, I can tell when a juice has PG in it because I get an irritated throat and dizziness several minutes after puffing it. That's no problem, as all of the juices I buy for myself are 100% VG. No irritation, no dizziness, etc.

However, my problem has just recently started when I bought a new flavor... I've noticed that this flavor tends to hit me really hard, leaving an itchiness in my throat and I'm almost immediately lightheaded and even sort of sleepy. I've had 2 - 3 flavors prior to this that were completely fine. No adverse effects of any sort. This juice in question is from the same company as my other flavors, same nicotine strength, and 100% VG. So basically my question is: can the flavor of juice alone cause these side-effects? Is it possible for me to be able to vape one flavor all day every day with no issues, but have serious issue with another flavor? And if so, is there any way of telling why this is happening?

Thank you in advance for dealing with my newbie struggles.

Hmm. I am no juice expert, but... It might be an allergic reaction. This can happen if you have a food allergy or, haven't been tested for general allergies.

Well, all of my allergies are to prescription drugs and the only thing food-related is lactose intolerance. I've had zero issues with my previous flavors, and my flavor directly prior to this new one is actually pretty similar. Just switched from a French Vanilla to a Vanilla Blackberry Swirl. I didn't experience this until the new liquid. It's a bit alarming, if I'm honest. I even have half a mind to dump and clean my tank because I'm so put-off by the effects.

It might be best to consult your personal physician and take their advice rather than attempting a self diagnosis through an internet forum...
Certainly you shouldn't continue to vape that juice until then.

I dumped the liquid and reverted to one that doesn't bother me. I wasn't looking to self-diagnose, but rather to see if anyone else has had a similar experience when switching flavors or has any knowledge on the subject. I will definitely be consulting my doctor for his professional opinion... though, I'm sure it'll boil down to "don't use that liquid from now on." Until then, I have plenty of milder juices that I can vape without any adverse side effects.

Which is why I use Pure VG.

The PG is harsh, wrecks my voice and makes me lung sore.

Do an advanced search (upper right hand corner of your page) for "PG intolerance."

I know my husband was definitely allergic to one flavor I tried, confirmed by the spousal trick of trying to sneak it in again later. ;) He ended up sneezing, red eyed, etc. And it was a combination citrus and none of the other citrus flavors I tried ever bothered him.

That's certainly strange! I feel as though I might be experiencing something similar.

I use pure VG as well, because I have a known issue with PG. I'm very sensitive to it, even outside of e-juice. I spoke to my doctor and haven't had a chance to get in for testing yet, but he surmises that since I'm very sensitive to smells and tastes, I'm going to continue to have issues like this with a broad range of flavors, namely ones that are rather intense. For example, the juice that triggered this post contains a very strong blackberry tart flavor and he's assuming that it's just too much for me to handle. It's strange; I never thought that the flavor alone could trigger such an intensely unpleasant reaction.

I did a thorough cleaning and switched back to my french vanilla juice and I've been vaping happily all day.

I agree with above about letting the Doctor be a Doctor. however ..........

It might not be a sensitivity to strong flavors that is triggering this. Though you could certainly be sensitive to that paticular flavor. MANY flavors are PG based. Thus that 100% VG could easily be 80% vg ( 100% of the base being VG + nicotine) and 20% pg based flavorings ( or whatever percentage they used). I have seen some sites list their blends as Max VG, which to me is a more accurate statement.

Email the site\maker you purchased it from and ask if the flavorings are pg based. That along with your doctor can help figure this out.

I've already consulted the doctor and will most likely be seeing what can be done in terms of testing for any unknown allergies...

And thanks for the info! I had no clue that 100% VG could still mean that PG is present. I will definitely be sending an e-mail inquiring about that! That's definitely something that should be listed on the label for folks like me...
