Veterans, how was vaping back then?

Skipped the previous replies for now so as not to skew my opinions.

2011... LOTS of cartos on tiny 600mah batteries. Lots of soaking burned cotton, basically no tank options that didn't have long wicks like the ce5. Lots of fiddling. I wasn't patient enough to stick with it. I was back on cigs in 6 months.

I stuck with cartos and made it thru those crappy top coil years. From the looks of the disassembled T22 heads, they just stuffed one of those in a tube with many holes. I guess they worked better closer to the coil. Kinda like a carto...

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have stuck with it when a lot of you started, things were pretty good in 2013 when I discovered vaping. Them Evod batteries and T3S clearo's got me off the smokes, yeah, they gurgled a bit, and often needed the thermometer flick to clear out the extra juice in them, and those coils kinda cooked the juice in the clearo's a little bit. I used to take three of them set up and filled when I left the house, so when one was empty I could just grab a fresh one and keep on vaping, them 900 Mah batteries were awesome, but at that time I thought they were too big, I wanted something smaller

Never was a carto fan so my end times kit consists of ego type A & B tanks and attys. Oh, tea bags and blue foam too.

started in 2012....things were more fun...alot more innovative, alot more high quality small modders around, prettier looking gear, tighter knit community, the people actually building what you were vaping actually had names and would talk to you on a forum...most people were older scarred veteran smokers trying to get off a life long addiction.nobody cared what a "jellyfish" was...there weren't a hundred threads about noobs asking.."how do I get bigger clouds bro"...and there were people who actually could build a genny....Oh, and most of the reviewers were not obese.

Been vaping since 2008 myself, and have nothing but positive things to say about the progress of available products. The only downside was/is the inevitable intrusion by big tobacco corporations; via FDA regulations.

I thought the concept was crazy but after seeing it sold in Costco I decided it must be a legit thing and tried it in 2009 to finally break my 20 year plus two pack a day habit(FYI- I loved smoking just hated the expense- was smoking Eclipse at the end (a smoke free cigarette eventually discontinued)

A California (then Tennessee later) company called Puresmoker had a few models I purchased and am still using the last one I bought maybe in 2011 or so?

The big concern at the time was the FDA. They would seize companies shipments at customs. Created shortages frequently. Only a handful of companies started making their own “domestic” supplies if you will. Njoy and smoking everywhere filed a suit and was able to stop the FDA seizures (which no one expected to be successful)

I quit coming here after awhile and recently stopped back by, I’m way behind the times cuz I have no idea what some of you guys are talking about with these mods...

Looking at the threads I posted in back in 2009 another big thing was lost orders.

USPS had tracking but it didn’t show much, working there I had access to our internal tracking which gave way more detail, I was a popular guy, lol

Just over 6 years ago I bought my first kit out of curiosity. I was intrigued by ads for this new fangled way to smoke. Who would have thought that tiny 180mAp automatic battery with atomizer and cartridge that held about 1/2 ml e-liquid could immediately put an end to a 45 year smoking habit. No one could be more surprised than I was that it just plain worked.

It didn't take me long to get an upgrade once I found ECF but that tiny smokstic kit will always have a special place in my memories. I actually still have the kit but of course no longer use it.

Old timer here, what’s a “jellyfish” ?

As for the bigger clouds of smoke I think that hurts the product and I don’t understand why someone would desire that but I have noticed a trend towards that with new people especiallly, it’s not a bubble wand...

Don't forget the countless arguments about mech mods/battery usage and the kabooms. The Efest fiascos, people mad, threads locked....good times, good times....It was like the wild west.

I started vaping with ego batteries and the mega carts ...not sure anymore what they were called. Been a while and the struggle I had with keeping up with the fast pace of making the hardware better. I used carts a lot then went into dripping to a 510 atty. Least that way never got juice in my mouth. Today the tanks and battery mods just make it so much easier and more pleasant to vape.
If anything we have too much choice now in what to vape so ECF is the place to go to find out how others feel about the equipment or shops. ECF is and always has been the best information gathering place to go about vaping. I quit smoking Oct 1, 2010 and not looked back. The chat here on ECF is also a great way to talk to people about vaping. By the way I have hundreds of those carts just sitting around not sure what to do with them still in original packages lol

Can't tell you about 10 years ago, but I can tell you that between then and 2011 there was no universally adapted connection. Ever heard of 510 or 808? 510 is the "name" of the threading used by most mods....but not Pods and that genre. By my time these were the most common with 808 for many cig-alikes and 510 for most mods. There were a bunch of others and I have about all of the adapters, still, somewhere in my collection.

And I only know of one mod that had USB for the first couple of years. There were a couple of charging systems, proprietary to e-cigs.

Back in my early days 3 mil a day was fairly heavy volume & 18mg liquid pretty average. Those early systems sure didn't go through the liquid quickly, except for when they leaked.

Yeah it really comes down to those that sub ohm and those that don't. I am a MTL vaper can't do the DL. Seems to me that the Direct to Lung vapers and equipment are getting all the attention not the Mouth to Lung vapers. Even with that the equipment is so very much better than it was in 2010.

Vapers are pretty informed people and ECF helps us do that.

Things have done a 180, used to be everything was for MTL and DL/sub-ohm was a fringe thing. Mods going high watt and firing lower changed everything. It'll cycle around I believe, just as everything else does. Cloud chasing builders will switch to flavor chasing, for something different then back again when that get stagnant.

I started with the blu too - somewhere around early 2013. Had all of the usual problems - tried the next version - looking for longer battery life and learned how to re-juice the carts using Johnson Creek eliquids. Then finally moved onto an ego style battery and super basic bottom coil clearos. The cheap plastic kinds. Usually swap coils every three to four days and they only cost about 65 cents. The tanks cost maybe 3 dollars and I'll use one for months at a time. So my setup is basic and my costs are low.

People bust on the cigalikes but if they could make them last and work more like at least tootle puffers, I'd prefer many things about them. I liked the size and how it felt more like a cig. Also liked not having to push a button to activate the battery- the draw itself would kick it in. Also much easier to stealth vape with them.
