vg vs glycerin

I stopped at the pharmacy last night to see if they will order me vg two pharmacists said they've never heard of "vg" but they can supply plain glycerin, is it the same? Is it ok? any suggestions

It should be USP (pharm) grade. That's it.

Yep, VG (Vegetable Glycerin) is often known as just glycerin, and sometimes glycerol as well.

Food grade is not good enough. You need USP - it is cleaner. Sometimes you can find a bottle which as marked as USP and Food grade simultaneously. Then it is as good as just USP.

The way I understand it, glycerin is glycerin, is glycerin. Whether it's naturally-derived from plant material ("vegetable glycerin") or synthetically produced in a laboratory (just plain "glycerin") I am under the impression that it's the same stuff inside the bottles, either way. What you're looking for is USP (United States Pharmacopeia, aka "pharmaceutical grade") glycerin of either type.
