Ok.....I really dont know what the difference is...I know VG is vegetable oil, and that PG is.....um.....something else(sorry, the actual word escapes me, dont feel like looking it up).....but whats the actual difference. What does ONE do that THE OTHER doesnt? Why are there 2 different types? Is it strictly a health concern? Does one taste better than the other? Last longer? WHAT?????????

Sorry to be so ignorant about this stuff, Im POSITIVE this question gets asked 5 times a week ( or at least I HOPE it does, because if it doesnt...that would make me REALLY feel like a .....!!!)

The reason Im asking this is because the company Ive been oredering my juice from just started offering the choice of the 2 in their Marl Mix USA 36mg bottles. Before, they just had Marl Mix...no choice, no decision to make....I dont even know if it was PG or VG originally, so I dont know which of these two to get.

I'm new as well, but here's my understanding. Some people are allergic to PG, and I've read that the allergy presents with throat and eye irritation. Of course, a high nicotine level irritates my throat, so you may not want to make assumptions too quickly. Otherwise, I've read no real scientific concerns about PG, and I did a lot of research on that matter. That doesn't mean higher/lower risks don't exists between the two, but I certainly can't find reliable studies to indicate a concern with either of them.

As far as my preferential experience goes, flavors are weaker in VG formulas but vapor production is higher. From my vendor of choice, VG is cheaper. I like flavor more than vapor production, so I order mostly PG.

Propylene Glycol (PG)
Propylene glycol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most commonly used, more throat hit, more flavor.

Thats EXACTLY what I needed to know...."More Throat Hit, More Flavor" is right where I wanna be...Im not so concerned with vapor production either!

You guys are so quick.....Im really digging this forum!

PG (propylene glycol) is the one that the anti's use against us saying that it's automotive anitifreeze. True, but only used in the new non-toxic or safe antifreezes. They're using this alarmist tactic by associating pg with ethylene or diethylene glycol, the toxic stuff in regular antifreeze that has killed people.

PG is also used in foods, cosmetics, toiletries, and household items that we consume every day...try looking at salad dressing or sour cream labels. It also has anti-microbial properties.

VG or vegitable glycerin, glycerol, or glycerine is a plant based oil commonly from coconut or palm oil. Widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and household products (e.g., toothpaste, shampoos). Also has anti-bacterial properties. As a kid, my mother used it whenever I had cold-sores in my mouth and it cleared it up in a day.

USP grade of both can be purchased at any drug store, and you can use it to cut your juices.

Check our library for more on this.

As far as differences go, this is what I have gathered from reading things here and there.

1) VG is thicker (more viscous)
2) VG vaporizes at a lower temperature
3) VG produces better vapor
4) VG is somewhat sweeter

Because of the above...

1) VG does not wick quite as well
2) VG may gunk up your atomizer more quickly
3) VG produces a somewhat cooler vapor which may reduce throat hit

I've seen you post this before, but diluting with water to the consistency of PG eliminates these problems. Also, they only gunk up atomizers that don't produce enough heat to vaporize the VG well.

Hey DC. Glad you used "may." Have an atty with well over 120 hrs vape-time on 100% vg on it and works like day 2.

vg seems imo to rinse out easier than pg with plain hot tap water. Quick spray with my kitchen sprayer, blow out, and right back to vaping (no drying) works for me.

I only use 100 vg now, and your other points are right on!
