Did u make sure to check the resistance between the outer casing (ground) and middle (hot) before you applied the power? Probably a short. I'm sure Bastage can offer some better advice tho. I know next to nothing about electronics.

did it. But my comp keeps shutting down when I hit the power! WTF!

You are shorting power to ground. Don't use it! Take it back apart and find the short. Red should never be connected to black at any time. The switch goes only on the red wire, the black wire goes straight to the casing of the battery. Sounds like you hooked the switch up to where it shorts red to black, OR if you stuffed all your connections back into the tube without insulating them the red wire would be touching the inside of the case (ground).

Well I gotta say thanks Bastage. Followed your directions and built a USB mod for myself. This thing absolutely rocks. Between you and Invidregis feeding my compulsion for new gadgets I have a feeling I'll be playing alot. :D

Pics! Anyone that has done their own USB mod post up pics so we can see it.

is that... medical tape? hahahaha ! well, either way looks like it's working great. Be careful doing these mods guys, if the connection is not good or the +5 comes loose and is shorted to ground you could screw up your computer or maybe even start a fire. I'm glad to see people are getting some use out of this idea. If you're not sure about your connections, take it apart and redo it making sure nothing can easily come loose and cause problems. If you didn't properly solder and insulate the switch and ground wires, unplug the unit from USB power and night and when you're not using it.

Thanks Cash....Works great! Creates far more vapor than the battery and seems to me to give a better throat hit. Just wish it was portable.

USB is pretty limitless, you can get car lighter to USB adapters, and wall plug to USB adapters pretty cheap.
