Hi any bros or sis know where to get the kanthal heating resistance wire a1 32 awg( which is recommended) in sg ? And also the cotton wick? Newbie here and any help is much appreciated. Both my 2.8ohm and 2.4 ohm wicks came out while washing them. Left with the 1.8ohm only. If this goes off i'll have to go back to analog which i'm not interested in...thanks

If they fell apart, then they have been burned too much :( Can you roll cotton and slide it through the coil? It's not easy, but possible if you are very careful. Make sure the coil is right in the middle of the metal tube. Sorry I can't help you more with sourcing wire :(

Hi jazzytech, i have just gone and bought a nickrome 32 awg wire and a cotton yard. I'm going to try doing it. Is there any vids that show what needs to be done or tutorials? I heard and read that i need to burn the wire first to prevent some bad metallic taste and also to boil the cotton etc? Does all this need to be done? thanks alot

after i washed them under the water, when drying them with cloth just came off ... i myself was surprised

It's better to just let them air dry. Leave them on a paper towel overnight.

As for wick material, stainless steel mesh do work on the vivi nova and as you may know, SS wicks are known to produce the cleanest vapes. Though it does takes abit of work to oxidize them.

Would like to ask something about SS mesh, recently built one on my vivi nova using tutorial found here. It vapes fine, but i was curious today and took my multimeter and measured the resistance on the mesh, it did give a reading some huge numbers, was wondering if thats suppose to happen? When i try to measure the coil head it did read 2.1-2.2 ohms so i think its fine?

If your whole coil is kanthal, the bare wire that goes to the gasket will heat at a higher rate than the coil wrapped around the wicking medium. This overheats the gasket, reduces the amount of vapor and gives a metallic taste.

A lot of folks twist the kanthal legs to reduce the resistance to the coil, I find .999 silver twisted onto the kanthal to be easiest.

I've been using novas for a while, I've got a v1 and x2 v2, been rebuilding the original heads. I re-drilled the heads and use 2.5mm wick wrapped in a 32 ga kanthal/30 ga silver coil, works great for me.

I'm a fan of pbusardo but not that tutorial, the coil that he wrapped was the exact issue with the v1 heads, burning gasket.

ok i have changed the wicks for my vivi nova, but find that the taste is different now. The original wicks that came with the set was better. Why is this so?

Are you using cotton wicks? i tried cotton before and it gets burnt and taste bad, never works for me. Silica or SS mesh taste better for me..

my coil is nichrome 32. could that be the problem? also what type of cotton should i use? i know it should be white...

PMed you. I think its the technique with cotton, some people swear by it. I have no problem with silica or ss mesh..

I've always used silica/mesh wicks and kanthal (does take a few cycles to break in, and I always flame treat it to remove residues), not too sure about the taste of nichrome. I have read that cotton can be heat sensitive (burn) and I vape at higher temps.

there are alot of good threads about different wick and coil materials on here though

I realised that when i used a cotton as wick, i dry burned it. Maybe that was what caused the bad taste
