Volcano Magma - some practical questions

I've bought a couple of Magma starter kits from Volcano for my two younger siblings that smoke, to try to get them to quit. Even though they are younger (but over 18), they are much less technologically savvy, so I am trying to figure out all this stuff myself so I can answer their questions.

I've been reading a ton of posts on here but I am still confused a little.

Is the Magma a 510 or something else? Would they be able to get replacement parts somewhere else if they needed to save some money or have they modified it enough that you have to buy theirs?

I have actually never smoked at all, ever. My dad was a chain smoker for about 60 years (he started as a fairly young boy) and his death was not pretty, in part because of the smoking, so that really put me off wanting to smoke. Anyway, I'm trying to figure out the proper way to smoke one of these. I got them a manual button type.

Do you press with your lips already on it and then start smoking right away, or wait a second or two with the button down and then smoke? How many seconds and how deeply are you supposed to be pulling in the vapor? How often are you supposed to take a puff, like, is there a speed at which you would be in danger of overheating the battery or overtaxing it?

It sounds like you need to clean the atomizer on these pretty regularly? How often would you recommend them to do that? Has anyone used these Volcano ones and have a estimate on how long they usually last?

For a pre-filled cart, how do you figure out it is empty, just when you can't get anymore vapor out of it? For the plastic refillable carts, is it safe to pull them off the atomizer before it is absolutely empty, to refill or switch with something else for awhile, or is that going to splash e-juice all over the place?

Please no lectures about how I should have bought ____ instead. :glare: I based my purchase on many factors, including that they are both highly social idiots who are super concerned about how cool they are and that whatever they're smoking contributes to them being cool. If they don't like the way it looks, they won't use it, and I really want them to like using these more and stop smoking. If they ..... about battery life or whatever later, I will point them towards other possibilities.

You're in luck as a former magma owner I can help you out.

1. Yes the magma is a 510 and is compatible with other 510 parts

2. Hold the button down for a couple seconds then puff this gives the liquid a chance to vaporize and avoids you getting liquid in your mouth.

3. I deally rinse themout at night and sit them to dry. This is esier if you have a few for people who feel they need to vape right up until they go to sleep.

4. For any cart the vapor production wil drop off when it's about out. It will taste burnt when completely dry so its better to stop before them. Its more economicl to buy blanks and refill them btw

The Magma appears to be either a rebranded Joye 510 or a 510 clone. You should be able to get standard Joye 510 parts for it. You shouldn't have any problem finding 510 parts.

With a manual button, you push the button and hold it while you're inhaling. You should take a long, soft draw for at least 3 seconds to get a nice vape. If you'd like your vape to be a little warmer, you can try holding the button down for a 2 count (approx. 1 second) before you begin inhaling.

As for cleaning atomizers, you can try just blowing through the battery end into a paper towel and making sure the threads are clean. You can do that once a day or once every other day. If the atomizer gets really gunky (and you'll probably notice it gets noticeably warm pretty quickly after you start vaping), then you can look at rinsing it with water or alcohol (isopropyl works, as long as your atomizer dries out completely, you won't have a problem). If you have an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, you can bathe your atomizer in that for a while. Your atomizer should really dry out for a day or two after a soak before you use it again. It wouldn't hurt to stock up on 1 or more extra atomizers to ensure you always have one ready.

The first time you get your atomizer, you want to blow out your atomizer through the battery end into a paper towel. That will get most of the primer out before you start vaping. Then you should put 4 or 5 drops of e-liquid directly onto the atomizer and let it soak in for 10 minutes before you start vaping with it.

I'm not sure if you got tanks with your system. With tanks, you probably want to hold the e-cig upside down while you pull them out. You also probably want to have a paper towel in hand while you do it. Or you could just get a small syringe and top up the tank without ever pulling it off of the atomizer. With the regular cartridges, messes should not be an issue when you pull them out.

As for filling, you can either wait until the taste starts waning, or you can just top off your tanks or cartridges regularly.

If you're not crazy about the carts, you can try cartomizers.

Good luck with your system. But, if you're not crazy about the vape, the Smokeless Image Volt is a good choice in the "looks like a cigarette" category.

Volcano told someone their Magma is a real Joye 510. You can get Joye 510 parts lots of places. Just don't buy random clone chargers or PCCs because at least one 510 clone is reverse polarity and will melt real 510 batteries with its chargers. And slim 510 cannot is LR atomizers or cartomizers - those hotter LR parts are for batteries 450mah and larger (like EGo and Riva 510).

BTW I recommend manual batteries - that was you can drip with a drip tip (not recommended on autos) and the batteries will be super safe from getting damaged or killed by juice leaks. Manuals also make it easier to get a good hit and won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration.

Well, that's cool. There's a Joye 510 10-port multi-charger available from Heaven-Gifts if you need to keep a lot of batteries charging to keep everyone happy. The output is 4.2V, 150 mA; they might kill clone bats with reverse polarity, but they should be fine for your system.

As for manual batteries, they do have a slightly easier draw which is kind of nice. And you can try dripping on them. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try one of them with your setup, but it's kind of hard to say whether they'll be preferred over the autos.
