I hear everyone talking about watts to compare power in a device and effects on the vaping experience, but what about fixed-voltage device? How can I figure out how many watts my 3.7 fixed-voltage subvod is putting out and/or equivalent to?
You'd think the daughter of an electrical engineer would be more privy to this stuff :(

Use the ohm law :thumb:
Ohm's law

+1. Go to the Ohm's Law Calculator and put in your coil value for "resistance." Then calculate twice, once at 4.2 (full charge) volts and 3.2 (or whatever your mod decides it is discharged and won't work any more) volts to give you the range it operates. Or calculate at 3.7V for a midpoint, knowing it will vary a bit on either side.

I am reading some stuff that the subvod keeps a steady 3.7 volts through a charge?

I do not know. If it does, then 3.7 is correct all the time. The "range" I mentioned is how I calculate watts on a mech mod, where the voltage varies with charge state. I assumed the subvod did the same. I don't know that, though, as I have said.

(I'm a daughter of a EE too ;) )
Very cool. My dad speaks at conventions and won a lifetime achievement award some years back. I think he is absolutely brilliant but he has 4 kids and I don't know where all the brains went, and none of us are any good at math. Go figure.

Had to look it up, but you are correct. A steady 3.7volts from beginning to end.

Very neat! I didn't know there was something that simple. Have heard about ohm's law but wasn't sure exactly what it explained, and that is a nifty calculator.

Yeah everything I am reading saying it has fixed 3.7v. Yay.

WOOT! So awesome for your Dad :)

I really wanted to be a music teacher, but "I was good at math and science" and my Dad "re-directed" me to engineering. I play software consultant now....

Engineers are some of my favorite people. I used to be one, sort of. (I suppose technically I still am, but I don't practice.) The current emergency shortage of engineering talent first reared it ugly head at the building of Cheop's Great Pyramid and hasn't slowed down since.

My dad is one of those people who is so intelligent he is eccentric. They thought he was, er, "handicapped" in middle school because he was pretty strange, so they IQ tested him and it was in the 160-something range. I feel a little guilty bragging because he never tells anyone what his score was, not even my mom knows, because he doesn't want to be a jerk about it. He's a real cool, smart dude. He was friends with Sam Phillips and his sons, he taught one of Sam Phillips' sons how to tie a bow tie for some award acceptance because he dug my dad's bowties. My dad still rocks a bowtie on fancy occasions. James Brown was one of his clients when he (Brown) owned a radio station. My dad used to specialize in radio, especially AM, and apparently James Brown loved to talk AM radio with my dad. He once told my dad he was an "honorary soul brother". Pretty cool stuff. My dad has awesome stories, he did a lot during the Cold War, too. He was one of the people doing initial research into... I forget what it is called... when an atom bomb is detonated in the atmosphere and sends off electromagnetic pulses. Back when it was all classified and all that. He also contributed to the development of cellphone tower technology and helped develop digital radio. I really want him to write a book. A lot of people think I am BSing when I talk about my dad though. I guess it all sounds pretty outlandish. My dad is awesome though.
