VooPoo Argus Matrix
intro.jpg
I'm here today with a new pod from VooPoo's Argus line. This is the Argus Matrix, which comes equipped with a 1350mAh battery, slightly smaller in capacity than its sibling, the Argus G3. As for the cartridges, it uses the same ones, so we can ensure a great flavor 100%.

Let's move on to the review, but not before thanking the VooPoo team for making this review possible. You can visit their website to learn more about the Argus Matrix.

Packaging

We'll start directly with the packaging. As you can see, it comes in a rectangular cardboard box. From this image, we can get an idea of what to expect; as you can see, it follows the same shape as the Argus G3, although it implements some very impressive and also deactivatable lights.

What stands out the most on this front part is the device's own image, in addition to the decoration offered on the packaging. It also shows us that it includes iCosm Code cartridge technology.

I find the packaging simple yet beautiful and elegant at the same time. I like it.

On one of the sides (though it's hard to see in this image) we can find some of the device's features. On the back, we find the box contents, some contact addresses, various logos, a few warnings, and a sample sticker, so the packaging and its contents may vary in the official version.

Inside the box we find:
  • 1* Argus Matrix Device
  • 1* Argus Top Fill Cartridge V2 0.4Ω
  • 1* Argus Top Fill Cartridge V2 0.7Ω
  • 1* Argus Pod Family Compatibility Guide
  • 1* Type-C Cable
  • 1* User Manual

Here's a breakdown of the device itself. As you can see, it's a stick-type device with dimensions very similar to the Argus G3. If the body is practically unchanged (in fact, the Argus Matrix is slightly wider), why would they reduce its battery? I know it's only a few mAh, but honestly, what's the reason?

Setting that aside, from the side, you can see a button with three simple, very basic functions:
  • 5 Clicks to turn the device on or off.
  • 3 Clicks to change the wattage in 1W increments.
  • 2 Clicks to turn the lights on or off.
At the very top, you'll find some branding, and just below that is what I'll call the screen, though it's really just a simple wattage indicator made of small LEDs. However, the entire border of the front panel is the area where the lights illuminate and also show the remaining battery life.

Before I finish describing this image, I'll let you know that the device is made from a zinc alloy and IML (In-Mold Labeling), an advanced technique for decorating plastic parts. The cartridges, on the other hand, are made from PCTG, as we're used to seeing.

Here I'm showing you the lighting system in action, along with the power display. These lights turn on every time you press the button or take a puff and have an animation where they travel up toward the cartridge. In the display area, you can also directly see the chip, a detail that I love and that the Luxe XR Max and Luxe XR Max 2 also have. The display, besides showing the wattage, also shows the puff duration for a few seconds.

At the bottom, you'll find a battery display, indicated by a small lightning bolt. It's made up of five slots, so you can assume each one represents 20% of the battery life.

On the side opposite the button, you'll find the air intake. It's practically the same as the one on the Argus G3 and is composed of exactly three holes of the same size. In my opinion, it filters the air very, very well and can offer a very satisfying MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) experience if used in combination with the appropriate Ω coil. As for the tightness, I wouldn't mind if it were a bit tighter; in fact, I would quite like that, but it's very good, and at least for me, it hasn't moved unintentionally; it has always stayed in the right place.

At the bottom of the device, you'll find the charging port. It charges at 5V/2A, which is considered fast charging, and I can confirm that's accurate. The device will be fully charged in approximately 40-50 minutes.

Vaping Time
I must say first of all that this test has been carried out with nicotine salts, as I believe it is the best for this type of device and where I can notice the flavor the most.

Let's start first with the 0.4Ω coil; From this coil, I can say that its flavor is practically exceptional; it's practically an explosion of flavor. I can notice the notes of the liquid quite well, and it doesn't fade much until it's really burnt. The vapor production is also noticeably high, as it has a usage range of between 18-30W. This cartridge has been used solely with the airflow fully open and in the 18-24W range, which I believe is its sweet spot, especially for nicotine salts.

Let's move on now to the 0.7Ω coil; It is clear that this is a coil somewhat more intended for restricted vaping, leaning towards MTL or RDL. For good use, I recommend closing the airflow until only one hole is open. It really provides a very satisfying vape. Personally, I notice a little less flavor with this Ω, although it is still really good. Vapor production is altered, being lower than before. The usage range is 14-18W.

To continue talking about the cartridges, I can say that at least the ones included in the packaging are not of interchangeable resistance. On the other hand, I also don't believe they can consume 100mL of liquid without being changed; it's a figure that seems absurd and unrealistic to me. If anyone can maintain them for so long, I would like to know how.

Conclusion

It's clear that VooPoo has brought a new product to the market, but honestly, what noticeable changes have they made compared to the old Argus G3? Honestly, none, apart from the lighting system, which I must say I loved. The device is very, very good, that's obvious, it has no flaws, but where's the innovation?
