Hello there,

Today I have the newest Voopoo product for you, the Drag MAX. Just to be clear here, it is not a regular box mod, but it’s a dual battery pod-mod that uses the same PnP pod tank and RTA tank as on the DRAG X/S.

Received a very nice limited-edition package that also includes the RTA pod, MTL pod and pretty much every PnP coil. In this review I will be mainly focusing on the Drag Max and give my thoughts on the RTA pod and the MTL pod. If its about the packaging in this review, I will cover the Drag Max packaging.

Thank you so much @VOOPOO_Thea for sending me this amazing kit.

Review:

It is a very beautiful looking pod-mod with its metal build and leather finish. It lays nicely in the hand and the leather finish gives it a nice feel, but for a pod-mod it gets bulky and heavy in my opinion, two batteries just adds so much weight to it.

If I could describe this device in a couple of words, it would be ‘The larger version of Drag X’. It is basically the same to me but just having more firepower and battery capacity. I would have found it much nicer if it would have been a regular box-mod with 510 connectors. Overtime they will probably release a 510-adapter, that would be great.

A proper battery-door, much better than on the Argus GT. This one feels solid and snaps really well into place, not opening up on its own or rattling.

Screen is large and bright (not brightness adjustable) and allows for choosing between two different themes. One theme is like all Voopoo pod-mods with a screen displaying horizontally. The other theme is actually displayed vertically but looks very interesting. Overall the screen is nice to look at and it is easy to define the details that are important to be found. Like the fact it has dual battery indication.

If it is about functions, funny enough it has less functions than the Drag X. It is very minimal for a dual battery device to be honest. You can switch between ‘R’ and ‘S’ mode, ‘R’ being used for rebuildable, or let’s say with no limits, and ‘S’ being SMART mode helping the user to automatically adjust the wattage depending on the coil. There is no TC, Bypass or anything of such. Next to that you can lock the device (which unfortunately also locks firing), reset the puff-counter and update the theme as mentioned earlier.

As always Gene chip devices fire up insanely fast. I always like the Voopoo chip sets, they have one of the nicer interfaces as well.

If its about the pods, they are being used on various devices by now and are cross-compatible. The pod fits in the Drag S, Drag X, the Pod adapter and for sure some other devices. Its nice to be able to have one pod and stick it onto different devices.

PnP coils are good coils, they deliver proper flavor and perform quite well. For me they are not the best coils on the market and sometimes I have a feeling that the flavor drop is already occurring after 4-5 days, something I don’t have with other coils in pod-mods. Of course, that depends on the juice and wattage you vape at.

Also, I tried this device with the delivered MTL pod, the coils are really nice (1.0ohm and 0.8ohm), they deliver proper flavor and are keeping up better than the higher wattage coils. But for me the Drag Max is not an MTL device because of two reasons, one; it is simply too large for an MTL device, two; even with the airflow entirely closed off it is a very loose draw. Unless you like a loose draw, I do not recommend this as an MTL device.

As mentioned, airflow is not for MTL, but for DTL it is a very nice smooth airflow. It being easily adjustable with its lever is a big pro. Wide open you can get more than sufficient air for all the PnP coils, and you also can close it down to a preferred restricted lung hit.

Now the RTA pod. Pod unscrews from the deck very smoothly and the ridged edge really helps to get a proper grip on it. It is very easy to build on and it vapes nicely with good flavor. One thing I don’t understand is that they went with single set up only, if they would have chosen a postless deck it could have easily been a dual coil RTA. It wicks very well, and chain vaping is no issues at all on this RTA.

There are two downsides of this RTA pod, the capacity is just way too low with its 2ML. If the filling would be comfortable it would be such a big deal for me, but the fill port is so tiny, much smaller than the regular pod. Only way to fill is to very slowly fill with the bottle tip on one side of the fill port allowing air to come out, if you fill to fast it straight away creates an air bubble and it starts flooding out of the fill port.

As said, RTA pod vapes nicely, the idea behind it is good, but the execution could have been better.

Conclusion:

Another pod-mod from Voopoo that works and vapes really well, like I am used to. All together I recommend this device for those that like pod-mods and need some more battery capacity. If you have a Drag X or S then you can interchange with this pod-mod since the pods are exactly the same.

RTA pod is a bit disappointing with its capacity and fill port, it still vapes nicely and does provide what an RTA should provide, great flavor.

If its for me, I really wish that after the Drag X/S, Argus and the Drag Max, Voopoo will now focus on something else, too many pods/pod-mods lately from Voopoo and to be honest they do not differ much in vape quality. I hope Voopoo will now focus on releasing a proper dual battery mod such as the Drag 2 and a proper tank or Rebuidable tank.

Thank you, let me know if any questions.

Thanks for this great review, @SP013
I was just wondering, how good is RTA pod in these Drags, cause I'm thinking about adding one to my DragX. Now I think I'll stay on PnP RBA, till filling port on RTA is fixed, and maybe Voopoo will add some more capacity.
Cheers
Thank you! If you are fine with 2ML then its a nice RTA, it just vapes really well.

i've had 2 Drag Max devices for about 3-4 months. on both of them, the slightest pressure on the hinge side of the battery door causes the door to open and the batteries fly out.
i've contacted Voopoo and sent a video but no response. there are a few threads on Reddit from people with the same problem and Voopoo has done nothing to assist.
all I use now are Voopoo pod mods (Drag X and Max) but this has turned me off them which is a shame.

Voopoo contacted me today. He asked me to insert the batteries and use the device without touching the battery door and if the battery door remained closed. I replied saying that One of them now has a rubber band attached because the door does not remain closed at all. The 2nd device's door opens even without touching the door, like picking it up off the table.
He also asked me to provide sales receipts and a picture of the security code on the box. I provided everything and await his reply.

Good luck. I hope they replace them for you.

thanks but I'm less than optimistic. I don't even want them replaced, the door is faulty and the problem will likely reoccur. I want them to acknowledge the problem and fix it. Dovpo was was in this same situation with the battery door on their Topside Dual. They admitted the problem and released a v3 mod with a redesigned door.
The guy from Voopoo replied, requesting a video of me inserting the batteries and using the device without touching the battery door. I sent a video of me inserting the batteries, closing the door and the door immediately popping open and the batteries falling out. I did this twice in the video.
He got back to me saying "The device you show in the video seems not be in galaxy blue, could you confirm ? Also, pls send us close pic of the battery door, tks."
I sent 2 pics of the battery door and replied "OMG! When are you just going to accept that the door is flawed? You keep asking for evidence when it is clear. The mod in the video is my Galaxy blue device. There is nothing to gain by looking at pics of the door. It is not damaged in any way, it simply a poor design."
