Hello!!

Im using a cheapo vv box mod for now. Like it for the most part .. However .. The battery life sucks.
Im using 2 ultrafire LC 14500 900MAH 3.6v batterys. Im "in the market" for 2 longer lasting, but safe batterys.
It ranges from 3v - 6.5v I think if thats important.

Thanks in advance!! (On a budget in this Obama economy ... Looking for a quality, budget middle of the road battery)
:toast:

Trustfire flame 14500s are rated at 900 mah, but reviews and tests on candlepower and elsewhere indicate a more accurate rating would be 725-750. The ultrafire grey jackets you are using are rated at 900 mah while reviews and tests put them much closer to 675-700. So, you could squeeze a few more vapes out of the trustfire flames, but it won't be as big of an improvement as you might be hoping for.

Worth mentioning for when you've got a little extra money: The AW ICR Protected 14500 is rated at 750 mah. Those same reviewers say that number is actually a little low and they come in closer to 780-800 mah. But those AWs are around nine bucks each.

This probably isn't a problem now but, I thought I'd throw it out there just for info. I didn't have a problem with 510s but, when I switched 901s I had a problem with my VV box shutting down. I'd get maybe two hits and then I would have to turn the switch off and back on to get it to work again. I finally concluded it was the protection circuits in the batteries. I got some AW IMRs and that solved the problem. Just something for you Madvapes VV owners to remember.

Should just get a ego twist or vtube ... For some reason my favorite tank works awesome on my ego battery, but wont fire at all on my box mod. It used to fire .. But now it just does nothing. Any ideas?

More than likely that's a center post issue. If you can pry out the center on the carto a little, that will probably solve it. On one of my mods I ended up using a short 510 extension because of this.

Yep .. I have an extension .. Im gunna try to explain whats going on:
Have vv box mod and ego battery .. Using a vivi nova ripoff .. And a stardust clearo.
-Tank on ego w/o extension: works
-Tank on ego w/extension: doesnt work
-Tank on box mod w/ or w/o extension: doesnt work
-Stardust works on both box mod w/extension and ego battery

I thought I finally had a decent setup, then these problems ... :(

Battery life on a linear regulator is never going to be "great". You may be able to improve battery life just by adjusting your vape style. Use the highest resistance atty/carto that you can still get a good vape with. This will require higher voltage and most every regulator get its best efficiency when output voltage is as close to input voltage as possible. With linear regs any difference in voltage is shed off as heat. So if you are vaping at 4v and input is 7.4v then you are wasting 3.4v as heat. Change to 6v vaping and only 1.4V is being wasted.

Figured it out!! Center post of my tank has a screw at the bottom. I turned it left and make the contact in the middle come out more .. Now it touches the box mod post again :vapor: Guess Ill have to keep a screwdriver with me lool ...
Next up - vtube with vivi or mini sub tank.

Here. have a look at this before you do that again. It's not a screw, and by turning it, you are inviting a short. The wires for the coil are soldered to the part you turned and if you turn it a little too far, the wire will touch itself and short.

Hey six, thanks for sharing this. I was just looking into 14500's and was not aware of the mAh discrepancy. Has anyone tried these Sanyo 14500's yet?

Sanyo 14500 Protected li-ion 3.7V battery by Orbtronic

Orbtronic has a good reputation for quality batteries but any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks, JJ

I was looking up a test done on some 18650's when I noticed the most recent test and remembered this thread:

Test of Intl-outdoor UR14500P 840mAh (Black)

It's the same Sanyo cell in an Intl-Outdoor wrapper. A very solid performer.

Thanks Rader. I eventually found those same test results on CandlePowerForums. Flashlight guys are tough critics. Looks like a solid 14500. I ordered 4 today so hopefully I'll give a good report in a week or two.

JJ :)

I had/experienced the same exact issue and solved it the same way.

Quick update. I just received 2 of these...

Orbtronic Sanyo 14500

These Sanyo 14500's are a tad longer than Trustfires or Ultrafires. They will *not* fit in my MadVapes VV Box. At the moment anyway. I'm gonna do some tweaking and see what I can do. May have to file down positive connectors on the box.

Those are beauties! I like the Ma...

Update - Dremel on the positive connectors inside the box solved the problem. It never ceases to amaze me that "18650" and "14500" batteries can vary so much is dimensions when those numbers are supposed to be the dimensions.
