Hi forum members. First off, I've tried to find the answers on my own on the forum but my head is spinning. Second, I am not new to vaping but it's been a few years, and it seems there are more options than ever, and I don't have the energy to get an MBA in vaping, so if you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

I stopped vaping after a bad experience into the world of those things where you have to change the coil and wrap cotton and all that stuff. I vow never to do that again. Plus, there was way too much vapor.

Yet I don't want to go back to the stick style. I had a Kanger eGo but don't want the stick. Can you recommend a unit with good battery life, ergonomic styling for the button-pushing, that will take the wickless tips where you fill the clear thingie with juice, and be able to get a really solid clear thingie that won't break after a week or two?

The recent Kanger and Innoken models look great but when you read the fine print they start talking about coils, and as I said earlier, I will never repeat the nightmare (for me) of having to screw around with those. But maybe when they say "coil" they don't mean the mod coils. I'm so confused. Any help appreciated and I hope will earn you maximum karma points! Thanks!

Hi and welcome home. When Kanger and Innokin are talking about "coils" they mean the kind that come in a box and you just screw into the bottom of the tank, not the kind where you wind wire around a mandrel and pull cotton in it. The Kanger Topbox kit will serve you well, unless you need more power than one battery can give. The Innokin Cool Fire is also well thought of. I personally prefer the Kanger as I like removable battery stuff better than fixed battery. Here's a link to the kind-- one of the kinds-- of coils that go in the Toptank, which comes with the Topbox kit. If you look, you'll see it's a threaded part, and it just screws into the tank. You don't have to futz with it.

hi @foolofgrace . Usually when you build your own coils it's on an rba (rebuildable atomizer) or with a tank that is an RTA (rebuildable tank). There are a multitude of tanks which do this.

I believe what you're looking for is a tank where the coil just screws in and out and you "fix" it by screwing in a new factory coil as opposed to making your own. (They are called coils by the way)

You also implied you didn't want an eGo and weren't crazy about too much vapor. I would suggest the Aspire Nautilus Mini tank. It is about as close as you can get to a cig draw (mouth to lung vape as opposed to straight lung hits) and gives excellent taste. The "coils" (factory made screw in, screw out to replace) come in 1.6 ohm or 1.8 ohm BVC (bottom vertical coil for "NAUTILUS") and I didn't notice much difference in the two when I used it.

As to mods (the battery), you have two basic choices, internal battery you recharge via usb cable, or replaceable batteries where you swap out the battery and charge it in a separate charger (recommended over charging while in mod).

With the internal batteries you are tethered as it recharges. With the replacable battery mods you have an added expense of batteries ($7 a piece online) and a separate charger (under $20). You should also limit your batteries to quality name brand like either LG HG2's (3000 mah), Samsung 25r's (2500 mah)or Sony VTC4's (2100 mah) from a reliable source. (how long before needing recharge, higher mah is longer use).

Most of the single battery mods will be tiny in size. I would suggest going to a local vape shop and actually hold one to see it's size. They will probably pressure you to buy what they have in stock if they don't have what you are looking for, and it will be cheaper online but you have to wait a few days for delivery.

Where to buy 18659 sized batteries in USA
http://www.illumn.com/ (California)
Authentic AW Batteries - RTD Vapor (Pennsylvania)
Liion Wholesale Batteries | Li-ion battery distributor (Pennsylvania)
18650 Batteries | Rechargeable Li-ion | Battery Chargers (Florida)
Earth's #1 source for IMR 18650 Batteries, Chargers, Cases & Wraps | IMRbatteries.com (Texas)

The iStick 30 and 40 watt mods, and the Coolfire IV are probably the most popular internal battery mods and easy to use. Their internal battery is measured in "mah" (how long before needing recharge, higher mah is longer use).

You'll have to look around and see which way you want to go. I have both and find the freedom of the replaceable batteries a plus.

I've used these U.S. vendors (usually 4 days order to delivery):
www.myvaporstore.com (New York)
www.originvape.com (New York)
www.vapeNW.com (Washington State)
www.vapesupersaver.com (Georgia)
www.sweet-vapes.com (Wisconsin)
www.mtbakervapor.com (Arizona)
www.myfreedomsmokes.com (North Carolina)
www.madvapes.com (Carolinas)
www.gotvapes.com (Texas)
www.rockymountainvapor.com/ (Colorado)

China
www.fasttech.com (2 week delivery)
www.heavensgifts.com (excellent service/DHL shipping is under 5 days to hand)

Good luck.

The word "coil" has become a bit confusing, for all of us. :)

Most tanks on the market allow you to buy and replace the atomizer section (head, coils, burner, filter, widget... whatever people call it, sometimes wrongly).

You can get a nice mod (box or tube) and a good tank and plug and play your way to easy vaping never having to make a coil (build, wrap, assemble, fabricate... whatever people call it, sometimes confusingly).

If you get a good mod and the right tank to suit your vaping style, you'll be fine.

Some of the best mods on sale right now can do 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 watts.
As long as they go low enough (in power) you can minimize vapor to almost that of a gas station plastic cig-a-like... almost.

I think what I'm trying to say is... don't rule out a really top box mod just because it says "sub-ohm" and "rebuildable" and "9,000 watts"....

I 'plug and play' most of the time. I therefore have to buy some coils, but I don't call them coils, although they are.... :D

What you call the 'wickless tips' would probably be what is now called the 'replaceable coil' or 'replaceable coil head' or 'replaceable head'.

The thing where you put your own cotton would be the 'rba head'.

I've been happy with my evic vtc mini the last couple months I bought a second one for backup; I recommend it.
I haven't been been using the ego one that came with mine so far (but I did use it for a day - seemed fine), because i rebuild (coil), so i mainly use my drippers.

Wow, what terrific info! Thank you all so much. You have totally answered my Qs without making me go to grad school. I'm going to digest all of this and I know I'll make a good choice. Double karma points for everyone!!
When you settle on something, come back and tell us what before you buy. We can tell you if it's going to be suitable for your vaping style, or if there are problems with that particular piece of gear not widely known, or if there might be something else doing the same thing either better or for less money or both. We can also help you get it set up so it's doing what you want, which can be confusing. If you buy a versatile piece of gear, like the Topbox kit I recommended above, it might not be immediately apparent to you what coil to put in the tank and how to adjust the settings. We're here to help, and I am glad we have. Good luck.

Although I tend to do what I want anyway the members of this forum were a big help in my final decision along with my guy at the local B&M Vape Shop. I think I made a great choice and it was confirmed by many of the forum members!

"I tend to do what I want..." That's funny, now that I'm returning to vaping I just want to get something now now now -- but I will make a chart of the recommendations in this thread, investigate them, and come up with some choices, which I will post to this thread this evening. I can't express how impressed I am with you folks being willing and taking the time to help me out, going into so much detail. I am really grateful. Thanks and see you soon. (At that time even though this is strictly speaking the wrong forum, I will ask if anyone can recommend a good tobacco flavor juice. There's probably something new since last time I was vaping.)

The first setup I checked out was the Joyetech evic VTC mini, and I think I'm in love. I'm not sure what else I would need. It has a cool sexy look, a great screen, well-positioned fire button, and takes batteries and I think you can use the mini USB to recharge that way if you want to. It seems that you can vary the wattage, voltage and atomizer, and it has upgradable firmware. It comes with a bottom-fill tank which the youtube reviewers weren't crazy about but it seems workable for me, and it seems like I can get different types if I want. One guy loved something called the Crown but it looked like overkill for me. One guy mentioned RDA tanks, not sure what that is, and mentioned "you have to prime the coil really well" and I have no idea what that means. As it happens, I have, left over from my unfortunate cotton-coil thing, a blue battery and battery charger (Intellicharger i4 compatible with a lot of 5-digit numbers) whether this will fit, I don't know but a closer examination of the tech specs and a magnifying glass to read those little numbers would probably tell, I'm three glasses of wine in and not up to the fine print right now. I don't mind spending what it takes to get me something I can rely on, and this sounds like it. I suppose I should do more research tomorrow but ... I think I like this one. Comments? Like, what does 'prime the coil' mean? Thanks in advance!
