Considering the dripbox requires a 20a CDR battery, using a 10a can only end in a bad result.
efest is notorious for overstating amp ratings, no matter how many are tested or who does the testing there is no telling what cell is actually under the wrap.
You may get lucky & get a so so 20a cell or you may get a 6.8a cell both wrapped with the same false amp rating printed on the label.

But, I doubt the battery caused it to auto fire.

Elvis,

Do you know where I could buy a 20a battery and be confident that I am getting a 20a battery?

Thanks

I buy my batteries from RTD Vapor.
Yea, just noticed when I linked that post that they sell those Efest POS batteries, surprising.

As a general rule when it comes to batteries, only buy ones that are directly from the manufacturer (sony, panasonic, lg, ect) from legitimate suppliers. No reason to buy re-wrapped batteries.....ever.

Does anyone know where I might get a higher quality replacement button? I would install it myself then I would know that the device is safe to use.

I could easily re-shape the button hole.

I would absolutely not try and revive a device that's malfunctioned. It may have not been the power button. The wiring could be faulty, in which case a new button wouldn't prevent another incident like this.

My Geyscano is my "daily driver" but not as portable as the drip box. Does anyone know of something similar to the dripbox; inexpensive, portable, simple, etc.

Well, if you're looking for a squonker, the good ones aren't going to be cheap. But Reos have rave reviews, they have some minis if small is what you're after. You're looking at about $150 for one of those though, and they aren't variable or anything. They have a little wiring, but function more like a mech mod. Alternatively, you could get a regular box mod with a tank. I've been really happy with my Innokine Coolfire IV. It's only slightly larger than the drip box. If the dripbox satifies you, the power of the Coolfire should be more than sufficient. The only downside is the internal battery. Which, I mean, it is what it is. They wear out and you can't replace them. But for what it is, it's a great little portable mod that offers decent power.

Can you see if a coil may have been touching a sidewall?

Puffon,
The coils were more than 1/8 inch from the sidewall. In the picture, on the right side, you see an o-ring that slid down into the melted plastic; it kind of looks like the sidewall but it isn't the sidewall. Again, the coils were installed by a pro and were more than 1/8 inch from the side.

I was very careful with the rda because it is SO flimsy. I don't understand why they made 1) the cap so thin and 2) a non-Delrin top. They probably saved 10 cents per unit.

The initial cost of a Reo is pretty high. Long term cost is low. They seem expensive but they are bomb proof. I use mine all day every day. Every other device I have has been shelved. Power delivery from a Reo or any other mech squonker will be very similar to the drip box, so it is build dependent and will drop with the battery voltage.
They come up in the classifieds at a few dollars less than a brand new one from Reosmods.

A small amount of juice on the charging/control PCB or in the tact switch may cause the problem that you had. A split bottle or hose or a leaky 510 can lead to juice inside the mod. On a mech its a case of a quick wash under the tap and you are good to go.

Actually, with the exception of the Woodvils, REOs have no wiring. The metal REOs are full mechanical.

Well yeah, long term cost is low. But you know how it is. People either got it to spend or the don't. Long term vs short term cost isn't always something everyone can afford to consider. That's why I don't have one. I can either afford a Reo, or I can afford to stock up on nicotine base for DIY.

All; I'm going to start looking for a Reo.

My philosophy has always been, and I taught my son; "you cannot afford to buy something cheap". I got anxious when I saw the DripBox and didnt follow my own rule. I should have known to wait until the "customer beta-testing" was finished; unbelievable!

I'm sure that I will get a refund, I guess I'll buy some good batteries for the Reo with it.
