My better half made our first Puck mod, and we are trying to narrow down the "weak vapor" issue since I have seen nothing but these vaping like champs!

The Specs-

-Used 2 4AAA boxes and Rayovac AAA 1.2v Nihms.
-instead of a 901 connection, it has a 510 connection from a gutted batt.
-Unsure of the Atomizer specs- it's old, but I think it's a standard Res. it's one I normally use so I know it's still good.
-we are drippers so there is no tank or anything.

I know we should go with a high res atty, just don't have one right now. I was sure I read that a standard 510 would only effect the battery life, NOT the vape, but the vape is pretty weak even with fully charged batteries.

We don't have any meter to check the ohms, but I would compare it to my Ego Twist set at about 3.6-3.8. Maybe even a bit lower.

What'd we do wrong??

Just guessing but I'd say your atty is too old. Try a new one with a cartridge. I used an old 901 atty when I first built my puck and it did not vape well. I cleaned the atty in cola and it works great now. Also works great with an adapter and 510 attys.

I'm vaping my Puck with a 4 year old 901 atty which I assume is around 3ohm. It vapes and tastes great. Honestly, it's the smoothest vape I've ever had.

The next one is going to be a 901, but even for that one we don't have any 901 right now so it's doing to have a adapter on it (until we can find a 901 atty we are willing to buy) we don't want to build again until we figure out the problem with this one though. I read his (ThePuck) analysis on using a 510 and saw nothing about weak vapor production.

If it wasn't the atty that I use on my ego 510's and my twist with no issue, I would agree with that one. Thanks for the input though! :)

If ya wanna build mods get a meter, actually everyone should have one. A $10 one is fine for our uses.

For one, not all NiMHs are created equal.

That's not true, There were a number of posts early in the Puck thread about Joye 510 users only getting about ~3.6 loaded volts with the NiHMs. It was built around a 901 atty which come in at ~3+Ω, without a regulator as you drop the ohms you also increase the amp load, which in turn increases the voltage sag under load.

@vaporvinny- yes that is correct- 4 batteries

@willieB- I haven't found meters that cheap- any suggestions on where I could get one?
And I evidently missed the posts about the low output, thanks for the info. Makes me feel slightly less crazy lol

just so everyone knows I DID search threads until my head was spinning trying to answer my own question before I asked lol

I know I've read that about Joyes too. That sounds like your problem. Track down a standard 510 atty, at about 3ohms.

Equus meters usually get favorable reviews. And FWIW cheap meters are usually quite accurate, you need to spend upwards of $60+ to crack into the next level.

Folks seem to like this one.

Equus 3300 Hands-free Digital Multimeter : Amazon.com : Automotive

At Walmart for a tad more.

Cheap meters are more delicate so be carefull.
