Hi Guys
OK this is kind of embarrassing. I am almost hesitant to ask. You guys have been so nice, and here I am asking for more advise.

I got this smok EBC bottom coil (my first ecig of any kind) and the volume of vapor was weak to start. 1/8th volume of an analog.
Now its pretty much insignificant. It still works, as in, the battery is charged and I can hear the coil sizzle, and it does deliver the nicotine, but its heavy and almost liquid.
I am using ry4-e liquid, 18mgs. I like the flavor just fine.

But the volume of vapor is outright trivial.
Is this normal for this model? Should I be doing something different?
I usually hold down the button for a second and then begin to draw. Is my technique faulty?

If this is normal for this model, is there another fairly inexpensive model that makes more vapor?
thanks, sheepish, Scott

Scott, not all atomizers or batteries will provide a quality vape. The first time I started vaping a few years ago, the vape shop sold me a clearmizer called the Vivi Nova. I never could get that thing to produce enough vapor to keep me from smoking. If you tried changing the coil and that didn't help, you may want to look at trying a better performing tank and battery. In the last couple months numerous small, powerful batteries are hitting the market and prices have dropped significantly. My recommendation today for a new vapor would be an iStick mini 30W with a Kanger Subtank mini. You may pay a few more dollars for something like this than your current setup, but you will save money in the long run getting a good quality and high performing device.

Carrie's on the right track, and another thing to consider is the resistance of the coils you have. It seems from the pic (although can't be sure) that your battery is a fixed voltage one. Since the heat produced (watts) is determined by voltage and resistance, if you can't change the voltage, the only way to increase the power is to lower the resistance.

Going to a variable type battery, either VV or VW (or both, many are) is a good option.

By adjusting the volts or watts, you can get more or less vapor and flavor with a given coil value.

This may sound silly, but you have to hold the power switch down the whole time you are drawing off it. If I read correctly, you hold it down a second, then draw off it. Hold it down while drawing off it. If I did read it wrong that setup may just not be for you. I started out on a Halo Triton setup, in the end it just wasn't satisfying. I now use mech mods, high watt box mods, RTA's and RDA's. Also now am trying some of the subtanks. It may be as simple as that setup isn't enough for you. Please keep saftey in mind when going with more powerful setups. Safety first kids.

I think all points here on this subject has covered the basis of what may be wrong with the set up, but I have not heard too much about the quality of the e liquid. In my experiences over the period of more than a year since I embarked on the journey of trying to learn every aspect of vaping and to say that i'm not still learning would be ludicrous. I went through all these different issues. I started making my own e liquid when the shops i was buying from was hiring kids to under 18 to be mixologists and developers. First thing I noticed was my e liquid was not lasting as long. Then I noticed that my tank's were leaking from both end's. I started to watch when they offered to fill my new tanks up for me and the sales rep. was pulling of the o-ring that would cause some of the leakage. When you make your own e liquid 10ml. will last at least 5 to 7 days depending on how you mix your PG. & VG. Ratio. I like to make mine 50/50 it gives a good vapor with a good body volume that will give the vapist a quality product. Now you have some mixologist's that use extracts that are 90% alcohol for flavoring and the will call for a higher ration of VG. to stabilize the consistency. Its best to only use pyrex tanks for those types of e-liquid's or they will crack plastic tanks.and that can leak on your battery damaging the amount of ohms that is produced. A Variable Voltage or VV or VW is the way to go but you get what you pay for.

I also used to use a ego type battery and a evod tank. One thing that happened to me is the juice would leak through the coil and onto the battery. If you unscrew your evod tank and take a look inside the 510 connection, see if there is any eliquid in there. If there is just clean it out with a bit of paper towel or something. The leaking can happen for multiple reasons, the one that was more common for me was heat. If it was hot outside my eliquid was thin out and start to leak through the coil.

You might have to change out you coil for a new one. Be sure to prime it up first with some eliquid before putting it into your tank, it helps avoid dry hits with a fresh coil.

I think this is your problem below.

You said you hold it for just 1 second and then draw? Try holding down the button the entire time your drawing. Also I recommend getting some coils that are about 1.8ish ohms in resistence. That was the sweet spot for me when I had your set up.

If you've done all this and still aren't getting a satisfying vape I'd recommend possibly upgrading to a istick 30watt an a subtank mini like someone else said. This set up can be a bit costly but it will provide a very satisfying vape, as well as the set up is pretty durable and will last your a good long time.

Remove the tank from the battery, hold the tank in your hand with a tissue or vaper towel (thanks busardo)
underneath it while blowing gently through the driptip. This will remove any unwanted excess liquid from the coil area.

Dry off the bottom contact area of the tank. Dry off the top contact area of the battery.
Put it all back together and see if it works better for you. Cheers.

BTW Hitting the fire button before you vape is a good technique, also continuing to draw for a second after releasing the fire button is advisable.
It leaves less condensation in the coil area.

Try pressing the button and taking a few small primer puffs, then a 1 or 2 second draw, and then release the button.

These days a lot of people are recommending the Kanger Subtank or the Aspire Atlantis, but I don't really feel these are appropriate for new vapers.

If you think you might be happier with a new setup I would recommend picking up ...
- an Aspire Nautilus or and Aspire Nautilus Mini
- a pack of 1.8 ohm BVC replacement coils
- an Innokin iTaste VV4 or an Innokin iTaste MVP 20W

I know that's an overwhelming bunch of product info. Write it down and take it to your local shop and they'll know exactly what you're looking for. :)

Hi scottg!

When I started vaping, I used a vivi nova tank with 2.8 ohm top coils on an ego-c twist. It was somewhat satisfying, but the vapor production was meh and I still smoked stinkies because of it. But, I'm a big believer in making what you have work for you. If you're even a little bit handy, you can use a 1/16" or so drill bit to widen the airholes at the bottom of your clearomizer. That's what I did, and it made a very significant difference. I stayed with that setup for about 6 months after, until I discovered rebuildable atomizers...but that's another story :)

For me, I'm very new to vape 28 days a go, and my 1st set up was Atlantis and Cloupor Mini.
It's not overkill.

After a week, I think most newbie vapers will feel lucky they go for Atlantis ( or maybe KST mini ), instead of other tank model.
A practical box mod 30-50wt and an Atlantis should be new standard for beginner vapers nowadays... $80-90 will be better than $30-50 if it can took you from scratch to regular vaping.

I still whisper in my heart everytime I saw my friend's nautillus mini puffing her cloud out after 2-3 secs draw, and I feel lucky enough didnt spend some money on that device.

But again,
Don't care what the model or setup are, as long as it keeps you from analogs, it's a great model / set-up.

Oh you guys are just so cool! Thank you so much.
I went and looked up every product everyone suggested.
Is this normal? Researching hardware is pretty standard practice? :)
I am learning so much so fast, and still a long long way to go.

I suspect I would really like a cloupor mini battery case, and a nice glass tank.
I was looking at the square batteries before and thinking, "this thing is the size of a volkswagon". I hope I don't have to try carrying around something so big.
Then I finally saw a picture of it in someones hand. heeheheheh closeup photography. (doh)
Its shorter than the battery I use now.

I will have to save up for these. Out of my league. I live on basically thin air with a nothing chaser.

But in the meantime I did find a guy with 3 rbc tanks in different colors (look to be just a little better made than the ebc tanks?) and 5 extra coils, all of them in 1.8 ohms. Hes even throwing in a sample bottle of juice with higher vc for me to try. All at a price I could take.
I liked the different colors so I can try different juices.
A super nice guy who asked really good questions, and talked me though.
Unfortunately minutes after I made the purchase Ebay pulled his account. Sure hope I didn't get him in trouble somehow.

I am really jealous of all of you who have local dealers to go and see and touch stuff. Also able to try different juices/flavors quickly.
Everything has to come to me snail mail order.

OK, now I'm totally .....ing.................... skip this next part if you want heehheeh
I am presently "caught in the middle".
My ebc tank and 2 ohm coil is not delivering a completely satisfactory smoke.
But, I still like it well enough to use it as much or more than analogs.
And now with reduced use, the analogs are burning my tongue and not tasting very good anymore either.

I am dying to try drilling the air holes bigger and have about 500 drillbits heh (I'm a tool junkie). Its does seem kind of bubbly and like more air might help. But with only one coil in the house............... not going to risk it yet

Oh well thanks for listening and I;ll never thank you enough for being here.
I hope I can eventually find a way to help you one day.
yours Scott

Try a very light, slow draw on it. Give the battery some time to make vapor and let it do most of the work. You don't need to pull hard on it at all to get the vapor up into your mouth. I have a few tanks similar to yours and they gurgle if you get to drawing on them more than a little. They make a surprising amount of vapor if I take a more patient approach. If it starts gurgling, shake the tank out and put a q-tip down in it to swab out whatever liquid is left in the tube.

Welcome to vaping. :)

Do your best to resist the GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Just get something good that works for you. Use it for a couple months while reading everything you can and watching reviews on YouTube. As you stop smoking and switch to vaping your preferences are going to chance drastically, so what you need or want now will probably be completely different a few months from now. Plus, the industry introduces new and better products at a break neck pace. So find something that works for you and then learn as much as you can before you dive in head first and buy a bunch of expensive mods. You're better off spending money on lots of good eliquid for the first couple months instead of a bunch of gear.

I suspect I would really like a cloupor mini battery case, and a nice glass tank.

For the time being I would probably suggest that you avoid the Cloudpor Mini. They're having a bunch of electrical issues. If you want I can PM you links to more info.

But in the meantime I did find a guy with 3 rbc tanks in different colors [...] A super nice guy who asked really good questions, and talked me though. Unfortunately minutes after I made the purchase Ebay pulled his account. Sure hope I didn't get him in trouble somehow.

That happens from time to time. Did you send him any money? I hope it all works out in your favor. In the meantime your best best is to check out the ECF forums suppliers list. Or any of the many vendor forums right here on ECF. They're all reputable and reliable vendors.

I am really jealous of all of you who have local dealers to go and see and touch stuff. Also able to try different juices/flavors quickly. Everything has to come to me snail mail order.

It wasn't always this way. ;)

I've been vaping since 2009 and back then we still had to order a lot of stuff directly from China. With no tracking number because of international shipping a 2 week wait for the package to arrive would feel like forever.

I am presently "caught in the middle". My ebc tank and 2 ohm coil is not delivering a completely satisfactory smoke. But, I still like it well enough to use it as much or more than analogs. Keep at it. The setup that you currently have isn't ideal, but back in the day the stuff we used was way worse. Do a search for "blue foam mod" if you want an idea of how far vaping has come. In the meantime try pressing the button and taking a few small primer puffs, then a 1 or 2 second light slow draw, and then release the button. Pull the vapor into your mouth first and then down into your lungs and finally exhale.

Also, since you like the Cloudpor Mini I would suggest that you look at ...

Sigelei Mini 30w
Sigelei Mini 30W - Black Box Mod

Eleaf iStick 30W
Eleaf iSmoka iStick 30W Battery Only

Innokin iTaste MVP3
Innokin iTaste MVP 3.0 - 30 Watt Box Mod

Eleaf iStick 50W
Eleaf iSmoka iStick 50W 4400mAh 0.2ohm Mod

and

Aspire Nautilus BVC
Aspire Nautilus Adjustable Airflow Tank System

Extra Nautilus Coils
Atomizer head for Aspire Nautilus BVC (V2)

All the links are to MyVaporStore. They're a ECF forum supplier and I have ordered from them many times and it has always been a great experience.

I have a Sigelei Mini 30w and I highly recommend it. However if you do go with the Sigelei Mini 30w you will also need batteries and a charger. I would recommend these ...

Samsung INR18650-25R
Samsung INR18650-25R 2500mAh Battery - Flat Top

Nitecore Digicharger D2

It's always worthwhile to spend a little more on good batteries and a good charger because you can use them for any devices you might buy in the future.

We're here to help. Quitting tobacco is hard and we've all been there, so you're among friends. :)
