I am still waiting for vapemail from Ray...it's close... either today or tomorrow... the stupid new mail system hardly ever shows "out for delivery"... usually just the last sorting center early that morning...... I can hope... but I won't get my too excited...I don't like disappointments.......

3. 7/31 - The glass etching cream came in the mail. It does a great job of etching, and contact paper does work just fine as a resist material. Luckily I did a test piece first, my plan to etch a star with a circle around it came out a little sloppy for my standards. I've done etching this small before but it was always organic, not sharp, geometric shapes. I'm not sure how to proceed.

#3 ... 7-31

Wifey's nurse just left, she hooked up a bag of iv flush solution to flush her out at home, so I have to stay home again to change out the bags. I guess it's better than her being in the hospital but that might have been easier on both of us. Ha, I'm a home nurse now and didn't even know it!

On to brighter vape news. My son bought me a new mech mod as a late Fathers day present so I should have vape mail early next week, it's in the Hong Kong post office now.
new mech.jpg

I took MrPicC's advice, it will be my first mech mod.

Good afternoon Happy Vapers!!!
I tried to post earlier, but my chrome kept closing the window as soon as I was about to send an hellaciously long post...

umm.... I have a reply for this, but I think I'm going to leave that one alone....

Damn it! Now I'm really curious

Been a while since I've seen a decent Pirate in Pittsburgh
Arrrgh!

2. 7/31 - Good morning folks. The dog's been walked, coffee has been made, and vape mail has been received. I am really impressed by the speed at which RayN got my order out!

Been playing with my vapemaik since. Gave up o my morning post. Wooohoooo!!!

Copy past the tracking number from your email or Ray's tracking site and paste it into the USPS tracking site. You'll get more detailed information there...

I was really serious about pirates in Pittsburgh. River Pirates in the 1700's? Pittsburgh is definitely an unlikely place for Sea pirates.
Google doesn't give me a clue.
They were originally the Pittsburgh Allegheny
From Wikipedia...
"The Alleghenys were severely crippled during the 1890 season, when nearly all of their stars jumped to the Pittsburgh Burghers of the Players' League. With a decimated roster, the team experienced what is still the worst season in franchise history, going 23–113.[4] The battle nearly ruined McKnight, and he was forced to return his franchise to the league. However, almost immediately after this, McKnight joined the backers of the Burghers as a minority owner, which then repurchased the Pittsburgh National League franchise and rechartered it under a different corporate name. They were thus able to legally recover the services of most of the players who had jumped to the upstart league a year earlier.[3]

The new owners also signed several players from American Association teams. One of them was highly regarded second baseman Lou Bierbauer, who had previously played with the A.A.'s Philadelphia Athletics. The Athletics failed to include him on their reserve list, and the Alleghenys picked him up. This led to loud protests by the Athletics, and in an official complaint, an AA official claimed the Alleghenys' actions were "piratical".[5] This incident (which is discussed at some length in The Beer and Whisky League, by David Nemec, 1994) quickly accelerated into a schism between the leagues that contributed to the demise of the A.A. Although the Alleghenys were never found guilty of wrongdoing, they made sport of being denounced for being "piratical" by renaming themselves "the Pirates" for the 1891 season.[2] The nickname was first acknowledged on the team's uniforms in 1912."

more like RayN's ECF avatar, but closer to a "Texas" star. Some examples:
#1.
fyVMtP8A.B
#2.
texas%20star%20new.jpg
#3.
tbImg%202010060409163896412.ashx

I tried #3 at 5/8" wide, the circle was too fine of a line to cut perfectly by hand. It doesn't look bad, just a little sloppy IMO. If I make the circle wider like #2 I'm sure I can do better. I didn't want to do an exact copy of RayN's avatar, but it would be much easier to not have a circle. I'll try another test piece or two before I potentially mess up a pyrex tank. The circle makes it look like a marshal's badge, which is not at all what I want. Worst case scenario I end up with a completely frosted tank. I don't know. Confused is my new user title, by the way...

Do it reverse, completely frosted with clear symbol.

Leaving tiny bits of resist material on the surface to be etched is much harder than removing them. With a 5/8" OD, the circle in #3 is only as wide as a pencil line, and the thin, black outline of the star is even thinner. I picked a far more complicated design than is necessary. Back to the drawing board!

Schnarph,
I think #3 looks awesome!
Would it be easier if instead of a thin ring, you made it a solid disc with the star inside?

Loving my vape-mail today!
Got fun stuff from the classies...
A not really mod, but 18650 toting ego battery type. Pop a 2000mah battle in and I'm good all day!
A nice RDA... cheap but better than TW's crappy DDA...
Various junk...

My order from Ray! Woot! Woot!

And a sampler from Good life... Zombie's blood, Our Y Chair, corrosion, black-blue-&bloody plus 36 mil of Sangria (which is freaking awesome!!!) Which is already in my new polypro from Ray.

Good day for vapemail!!!

I like the beveled look of #3, when etched it adds depth. I'll let a few more folks weigh in on this, I'm having a terrible time making decisions lately. A contest win yesterday came with a bizarre stipulation that still has me totally confounded.

Maybe RayN has an opinion on the design?

What about using that "puff" paint stuff that comes with the needle type nose to outline and/or block out what you need to . . . . Just a thought . . .;)

AND - What is the "bizarre stipulation" . . .

Any way to get a machine-cut stencil?
Maybe try cutting out the pattern on the contact paper before applying it to the tank.
Hand cutting geometric shapes is tough!

Puff paint would probably work, but I still won't be able to make pen width lines in geometric shapes. Perfectionism is a curse in so many ways. There are pre-made computer cut vinyl stencils, but not in this shape.

The "bizarre stipulation" is... just too weird. This probably isn't the right thread or forum section to discuss it, but it has nothing to do with anything RayN sells so I hope it's alright. It comes down to a moral dilemma in which I have to decide how greedy or modest I want to be. Imagine a scenario in which I offer you free e-liquid but nobody has had it before and there are no reviews. You can have anything from 5ml to 250ml. What do you do? Why am I making you decide?

edit: @glassmanoak- I did my test on a scrap piece of flat glass. I seriously doubt I could transfer such thin cuts of contact paper. I need a fatter design, like a simple star.
