Good morning everyone........

so I'm wondering....... has anyone experienced weight gain? weight loss? ...since they gave up analogs or started vaping?

Been just over two months now, I'm up ten pounds........

is it slower metabolism because of less nicotine?
is it because food tastes better?
is it because now, instead of having a smoke as soon as I wake up, I let the dog out, have breakfast, then I vape with my coffee?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced any weight gain or loss, that they can attribute to vaping and or quitting analogs?

No solutions necessary, but all opinions welcome!

thanks,

G

I'm really not completely sure what you're asking. Does vaping cause weight gain/loss? Does quitting smoking cause weight gain/loss? In my experience, eating causes weight gain. If anything is substituted for it then it stands to reason weight loss would occur. That has to do with motivation. Many dieters use a PV to replace food. And, as a diabetic, I have. I can enjoy the taste of cheese cake vaping it but could never eat that. But, trying to say, whichever you do... vape or smoke... if you eat more, you'll gain weight. If you don't, you won't. So if you aren't monitoring and controlling eating... well... I hope that answers whatever you're asking. Sorry... I don't know another way to answer.

It's probably the fact that food tastes better like you said and also that food works on the same level as a PV or cigarette in the sense that is satisfies an oral fixation, which almost all of us on this forum likely have. It just made the eating fixation more enjoyable if I had to guess.

Regarding the relationship between nicotine and metabolic rate: it's probably pretty minimal. Just like everyone else, I'd compare it to caffeine.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might be eating more....... in the past, I would have no problem having coffee and cigarettes for lunch....
but it just doesn't work that way for me with vaping..... I get my food in, and my vaping........

guess I'm gonna have to vape more, eat less

ah, there's worse things..... I'll find my balance again.. thanks for the comments guys

I am one of those that lost weight when I started vaping. I lost 27 lbs when I started but I really think it is more due to the fact I felt so much better and started walking. This winter I stopped walking due to the weather and my health and I gained 15 lbs back. I have read where nicotine helps with weightloss but I have also read where food tastes so much better that people gain. Whatever the reason, I am vaping because in my mind it is a healthier alternative and getting out and trying to get more excercise makes sense too. Good luck to "us".

Thank you for posting and welcome to ecf. :)

I've lost weight since vaping - I was fairly overweight from my last quit attempt nearly 2 years ago. Since going back on the smokes, I'd got down to about 14 stones. Since vaping it's dropped to a more healthy 12.5 stones.

I find vaping works in a similar way to smoking when it comes to curbing/reducing appetite. Might be the chocolate fudge brownie mix too, mind you, that seems to curb the craving for sweets :)

As another diabetic, I agree that vaping sweet juices can curb cravings for sweets. I actually don't have a huge sweet tooth for food, but I LOVE sweet vapes. I have lost a little weight, mainly because I find tasty juices satisfy hunger cravings, and I'm much more active since I quit smoking analogs. There are so many variables that I don't think you could make a direct correlation, some folks will lose, some will gain, some will stay the same.

I'm a heretic around here because I was never a smoker. But I'm overweight and pre-diabetic. I've always craved sweet stuff, then several years ago I got on a prescription med that heightened the cravings as a side effect and started gaining weight. I was getting concerned because even though I understood the harm I was doing to my body, I could not get the cravings under control or satisfy them with healthier food choices. I knew nicotine could act as an appetite suppressant, so on a whim I picked up a couple of Blu disposables one day when I was in Walgreens. Knocked the cravings right out. I was surprised at how well it worked. So, I've stuck with vaping. Have lost several pounds, and eat almost none of the stuff, nor drink the soft drinks, that were so bad for me. As far as I'm concerned I'm engaging in harm reduction that is not unlike what smokers are doing who switch to vaping. The crap I was eating was slowly killing me.
