I just bought a new e-liquid and I was reading the ingredients and came across something rather weird. So I googled it but couldn't find any information of the ingredients usage in vaping liquids.

vape liquid in question: 12mg tobacco flavour by JP Gold
Ingredients in question: N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (I bought it in croatia so on the box original name in croatian is: 3-(N-METIL-2-PIROLIDINIL)PIRADIN

Has anyone ever came across this ingredient and somebody explain it to me, and should i be concerned?

Thank you in advance,
LukasUnix

No, but I see it's used in the production of Li-ion batteries. Hum.

Toxicity seems rather low. I'm guessing it's main purpose is to remove water from solvents. I'd probably take a pass unless it's crazy delicious :D.

I see, I have looked at theit site, and they, as far as it seems, are certified, and also, they use distilled water so i am not sure, but the flavour is Godlike.

Yes. Perfumers (Flavor) Apprentice/TFA does not list this compound as being used as an in house flavoring as far as I can tell. Additional research list N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone is often times used as primarily a solvent in the petrochemical industry. I would be very worried when a manufacture is using a chemical which can cause harm when used in improper dosages and is not being commonly used/known in e liquid (vaping).

NMP is used to recover certain hydrocarbonsgenerated in the processing of petrochemicals, such as the recovery of 1,3-butadiene and acetylene. It is used to absorb hydrogen sulfide from sour gas and hydrodesulfurization facilities. Its good solvency properties have led to NMP's use to dissolve a wide range of polymers. Specifically, it is used as a solvent for surface treatment of textiles, resins, and metal coated plastics or as a paint stripper. It is also used as a solvent in the commercial preparation of polyphenylene sulfide. In the pharmaceutical industry, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone is used in the formulation for drugs by both oral and transdermal delivery routes.[4]It is also used heavily in lithium ion batteryfabrication, as a solvent for electrode preparation, though there is much effort to replace it with solvents of less environmental concern, like water. (From wikipedia).

I would not vape this personally.
