Hello all,

I recently rebuilt two devices, a Protank and an EVOD with silica from OKCvapes and Kanthal from TEMPCO (on eBay). On the Protank, there wasnt a weird taste, however on the EVOD, the taste was noticably different. Its hard to explain what the "weird" taste is, but it is definitely NOT a dry hit like taste. I decided to burn some of the kanthal with a BIC lighter, and rebuild it again. However, the taste was still a bit off. Does anyone know how to get rid of this "kanthally" (just made that up, because i assume its from the kanthal) taste? Thanks for your help.

Could be the kanthal, in which case annealing it will help get rid of the possible machine oil, run a lighter over it until it glows orange down the entire length, and quench in water. I do this 3 times. This will also take the springiness out of it. What wick are you using? Some wick will take longer to break in, cotton being the shortest break-in time.

I've found that if I torch the silica over a stove top burner before rebuilding the weird taste goes away. Once the coil is wound and assembled I'll do a quick dry burn to get any remaining stuff off of the kanthal. I also torch the kanthal the same way. It cools almost instantly so I've never felt the need to quench it in water.

Needless to say I have a gas fired stove. It has its advantages. Mine rarely gets used for food either.

What is the resistance measurement on your Evod coil?

Also, if this is your first attempt at using the liquid with your own rebuilt coil, you might be tasting the vapor better. Or, differently.

I never rebuilt with silica wicks. Cotton only, so no dry burn. I did anneal the wire before wrapping, however.
