I tried to do a quick search on your printer problem for you Chief. Couldn't really find anything on printer installation on the tablets with Windows 8.

I'm Not sure - however I think the only way you can connect to a printer from your tablet is using a Printer App specifically for your device . . . AND via your Wifi or via Bluetooth connections or via the USB port if you have one on your tablet . . . . The last resource is using a Web based application . . . I have a Xoom Tablet that connects via my Wifi Printer . . . You may want to check Google Play also for a printer app . . .
