yup, Ive fallen victim to the dreaded coil kiss a few times before...
The stupidest and most dangerous fudge up Ive done was fresh build, checked it on my meter, installed on my mod and was working out hot spots. decided to raise the coils a touch so i put my Steel rod back in the coil and raised them. then left the rod IN the coil and proceeded to fire it on my Cherry bomber to see how badly I had messed up the alignment and if it would still glow from the inside out. nice fat spark and blown coil. Normally I use ceramic rods to wrap and tweak on just so I dont do dumb stuff like this...
Re-wrapping batteries is always fun... Bought some cool colors so i can code the different batts to mods and got new insulating rings for the POS ends. re wrapped all my batteries in one evening and then put them on the charger. nothing... realized charger wasn't plugged in so i fixed that. Chargers lights came on so I left them there. Came back right before I was to leave for work to grab some fresh charged batts for a 12 hour shift. popped them in my mod and jumped in the car. about 5 miles down the road I tried to turn on the mod. Nothin. not a flicker. popped out the batts and found that the insulating rings I had used weren't rings, they were dots. No center holes! so no charging happened, and the batts were dead from the day before.
Building a PWM mod... git everything to fit where I wwanted, wiring all nice and neat, everything was perfect. Slowly epoxied everything in, including wires and batt sled. probably 3/16 inch thick nice smooth coat of epoxy holding everything in place.... put on an atty and hit fire. nothing. stabbed the DMM leads into to 510 fitting, nothing. no power. Started looking inside all the BEAUTIFUL epoxying I had done and there it was... when I was putting everything in I had desoldered a few connections to get everything laying flat and perfect. I forgot to reconnect the damn 510 POS to the batt sled. and there it was... Buried in solid epoxy...
Yea, we've all done a few boo boos...
