WGAL 8 will have a piece tonight at 6:00 PM about the dangers of electronic cigarettes, including an "expert". Trailers on the story the last few days indicate a negative spin will be put forth including blurbs about the secondhand "smoke" being harmful to others and causing young people to become addicted.

Please watch if you live in the area and offer rebuttals to the station if you are able.

Thanks

Well their "expert" was some researcher from the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He said they were studying the effects of vaping on the brain and also that second hand vapor is not safe for others close by.

There was also mention of concern that vaping would addict young people and cause them to start smoking.

The only positive was a testimonial from 2 customers at the local vape shop who said they were able to quit smoking within a week of starting vaping and the shop owner explaining you have control of your nic level and can step down gradually if you desire

All in all though, a lot of negativity from the expert and the reporter with nothing at all to back it up. Very disappointing.

A follow up story tonight focused on a state senator who has put forth a bill to outlaw vaping indoors at public places.

Wondering when the FDA is gonna get off the pot and make their "decree"

Johnathon Foulds is the researcher who has been fairly decent in the past. Here's the clip-

Do e-cigarettes still pose health concerns? | Health - WGAL Home

The followup-

Lawmakers to crack down on e-cigarettes | 8 On Your Side - WGAL Home

Marv Scavello from the 176th district, Mt Pocono, is a Republican, and the fellow in the clip. House Bill 1485 would add e cigs to the no smoking laws. He's an idiot.

Thanks for posting the links. The bill is still in committee and not yet scheduled for a vote.

Mr Scavello commented "you're inhaling pure nicotine". That alone shows how much he knows, yet he thinks he can dictate what we can or cannot do.

Ridiculous

I posted comments on both news clips.

Was shocked that Jonathan Foulds claimed that e-cig vapor "isn't harmless", as there is no evidence that e-cig vapor has harmed anyone, and Foulds knows that. Foulds has received lots of money from Pfizer to promote and defend Chantix, has received lots of money from J&J (and probably GSK) to promote NRT, and has recently received tens of millions of dollars from the FDA & NIH.

Seems like Foulds will say whatever benefits his financiers. Back in 2011, Foulds attended the Vape Fest in Philly, interviewed many dozens of vapers, and wrote an article about it.

Scavello is a total idiot, and his bill is going nowhere.
